The role

We're looking for an experienced AML & Financial Crime Manager to lead the local AML/CTF function for the Portuguese Branch of Trading 212. In this role, you will provide independent second-line oversight of AML/CTF controls, serve as the designated Responsável pelo Cumprimento Normativo under Article 16 of Lei n.º 83/2017, and own the Branch's AML/CTF compliance framework under Regulamento da CMVM n.º 2/2020.

What you’ll do

• Provide independent second-line oversight of AML controls, alerts, and investigations conducted by the First Line of Defence

• Conduct Quality Assurance reviews of KYC, CDD, and EDD files to ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards

• Assess the quality and consistency of transaction monitoring investigations and identify areas for improvement

• Review suspicious activity escalations and support the drafting of Suspicious Activity/Transaction Reports (STRs)

• Act as the Branch's designated Contact Person for the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) and the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP)

• Own and maintain the Branch's standalone AML/CTF policies and procedures manual and its money laundering/terrorist financing risk assessment

• Submit the mandatory annual AML/CTF compliance report to the CMVM

• Serve as primary liaison for CMVM, UIF, and DCIAP on supervisory matters, including on-site inspections

• Develop and deliver AML/CTF training to Branch staff

• Drive continuous improvement of AML policies, procedures, and control frameworks

What you need to have

• Educational background in Finance, Economics, Law, or a related field

• At least 5 years' experience in AML, financial crime compliance, or a related function within an investment firm, capital markets environment, fintech, or a regulatory/supervisory authority in Portugal

• Strong knowledge of Lei n.º 83/2017, Regulamento da CMVM n.º 2/2020, EU AML Directives, and financial crime typologies

• Native or fluent Portuguese and professional English — both essential for policy manual authorship, UIF/DCIAP communications, and HQ alignment

• Excellent written communication skills, particularly for regulatory documentation and reporting

• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with confidence to escalate where needed

• A drive for excellence and a continuous improvement mindset

Nice to have

• Experience in an investment firm or capital markets environment (MiFID II / Código dos Valores Mobiliários)
