About this AI Security Architect – Agentic & AI Platforms role at WEX
About the Role
WEX is seeking an AI Security Architect to help secure the next generation of AI and agentic systems across our enterprise. This is a deeply technical role for a security professional who understands how modern AI systems work—from model inference and agentic workflows to vector databases, identity, and trust boundaries—and can translate that knowledge into practical security architecture and controls.
You will partner directly with engineering and AI teams building these systems, helping them move quickly while ensuring security is designed into the technology from the start. This is not a traditional “checklist and diagram” architecture role; you will be expected to engage deeply with technical designs, challenge assumptions, and independently define security patterns for emerging AI platforms.
What You'll Do
Partner with AI, engineering, and platform teams to review and secure the architecture of AI applications and platforms.
Define security patterns, reference architectures, and guardrails for LLMs, AI agents, RAG architectures, vector databases, and inference environments.
Identify and address security risks across AI data flows, model and inference access, identity boundaries, third-party integrations, and agentic workflows.
Design practical approaches for identity, authentication, authorization, and trust boundaries in AI and multi-agent systems.
Evaluate emerging AI-specific threats and define appropriate security controls and mitigations.
Help establish monitoring, security guardrails, policy enforcement, and detection capabilities for LLM inference and agentic activity.
Translate emerging AI security and regulatory requirements into practical engineering standards and guidance.
Enable secure innovation by helping teams make informed, risk-based security decisions rather than acting as a gatekeeper.
Provide technical leadership and guidance as WEX continues to build and adopt emerging AI technologies and platforms.
What You'll Bring
Deep technical expertise in application, cloud, or platform security with demonstrated experience securing modern AI architectures.
Strong understanding of model inference, AI model lifecycle concepts, and the security considerations associated with LLM-based systems.
Experience evaluating or securing architectures involving LLMs, RAG, vector databases, AI agents, and agentic or multi-agent workflows.
Strong understanding of identity, authentication, authorization, and trust boundaries, particularly as they apply to AI systems and autonomous agents.
Ability to identify AI-specific security threats and translate them into practical, scalable security controls.
Experience working directly with engineering teams and engaging deeply in technical architecture and design discussions.
Strong ability to navigate ambiguity, independently evaluate emerging technologies, and develop practical security patterns where established standards may still be evolving.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience implementing security guardrails, policy enforcement, or monitoring for AI and LLM-based applications.
Familiarity with AI security frameworks, emerging industry standards, and the evolving regulatory landscape.
Experience with cloud-native architectures and modern application development environments.
Relevant security certifications are valued but are not a substitute for demonstrated technical depth in securing modern AI systems.
How You'll Make an Impact
You will help shape how WEX securely adopts and builds AI technologies at a time when the underlying technology and threat landscape are evolving rapidly. Your ability to combine deep technical expertise with pragmatic, risk-based decision-making will help engineering teams innovate with confidence while building security into AI systems from the start.
