The Data & Automation & AI team is positioned within the Broader Assurance Services unit, which is an integral part of the overall Assurance practice. This team undertakes a variety of complex information security consulting engagements, and business control reviews across a wide range of organizations. Those in data science and machine learning engineering at PwC will focus on leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to extract insights from large datasets and drive data-driven decision making. You will work on developing predictive models, conducting statistical analysis, and creating data visualisations to solve complex business problems. 

About the team: 

We provide practical, data-informed insights to assist our multinational clients in refining their operational processes, optimizing their financial decision making and deepening their customer understanding. Our solutions encompass LLM-based data extraction, large-scale data processing, pricing strategies, optimizing product ranges and branch operations, employee staffing and scheduling, customer segmentation, product recommendations. By integrating unmatched external and internal data sets, we address challenges for clients in various industries, including retail, financial services, and technology. Our team, comprising high-end engineers and industry specialists employing machine learning techniques and proprietary models to reveal outcomes that deliver significant value to our clients. 

The role: 
As an AI assurance expert at PwC, you will work with other subject matter experts (SMEs) in data science, model risk and data management. You will be responsible for planning and leading the validation of AI models used by our clients, focusing on identifying and assessing key risks and controls. Success in this role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with development teams to understand essential features and underlying model functionality. 

 
Duties and responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and shape the strategy for AI Assurance and lead the development and implementation of frameworks, governance models, and risk management strategies that provide consistent assurance at scale for AI initiatives.

  • AI Model Validation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders associated with AI/ML systems to create fit-for-purpose mechanisms that support clients in validating their AI approach and methodology.

  • You will serve as a subject matter expert on AI/ML assurance, staying up-to-date with the latest developments, best practices, and emerging trends in the field, and sharing your knowledge with internal and external stakeholders.

  • You will constructively discuss your findings in collaboration with consultants and clients while always looking for the best solution.

  • You will lead the development of internal accelerators for prototyping and accelerating AI Assurance that may be used later to accelerate the process of AI validation.

  • You will have the opportunity to improve your technical skills, learn new technologies, and polish your communication skills through various company development programs.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in quantitative fields such as engineering, mathematics, statistics, or other related areas.

  • Familiarity with the EU AI Act from a technical perspective.

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in developing, validating, and reviewing AI models. Based on previous experience, candidates will be considered for either Senior Associate or Manager positions.

  • Prior experience preferably from a consulting or technology company.

  • Strong understanding of the landscape of Artificial Intelligence and model risk management, including local and international regulations.

  • Proven leadership capabilities in managing teams and projects with a focus on model governance.

  • Regulation and Compliance: Conduct comprehensive assessments and audits of AI/ML systems, evaluating their compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards, and offering recommendations for improvement.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Serve as a subject matter expert in AI/ML assurance, staying up-to-date with the latest developments, best practices, and trends, and sharing your knowledge with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to simplify complex model concepts and effectively communicate insights.

  • Strong project execution skills to deliver across competing priorities.

  • Relationship management skills to collaborate with stakeholders.

  • Strong people skills, team-orientation, and a professional attitude.

  • Fluency in English, German is a plus.
