As a GNC Engineer: State Estimation and Tracking – Level 3 or Level 4 located in Chandler, AZ, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

 

As a State Estimation and Tracking Engineer, you will develop and test real-time software, algorithms, and 6DOF simulation tools that support missile flight-code design and verification. You will apply Kalman filtering, signal and image processing, sensor fusion, and physics-based modeling to help systems detect, track, and predict hypersonic target trajectories. You will use C++, MATLAB, and Python to build analysis tools and evaluate EO/IR sensor performance, flight dynamics, and simulation results.

 

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

 

In this job, you will:

• Design, develop, implement, verify, and test software and simulation tool chains supporting missile flight-code development.
• Build and maintain 6 degree-of-freedom (6DOF) simulations used to design and evaluate missile guidance, navigation, and control capabilities.
• Develop and enhance real-time state-estimation, tracking, Kalman filtering, and sensor-fusion algorithms.
• Apply signal processing and image-processing techniques to remote-sensor and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) data.
• Analyze EO/IR sensor performance and integrate sensor data to support accurate target detection, tracking, and trajectory prediction.
• Develop physics-based models and perform flight-dynamics analysis for guided missiles and interceptors.
• Support the development of capabilities to track hypersonic targets and predict their trajectories for successful interception.
• Create, maintain, and improve algorithms and analysis tools using C++, MATLAB, and Python.
• Use probability theory and statistics to assess algorithm performance, uncertainty, and tracking accuracy.
• Plan, execute, and analyze simulation experiments, including large Monte Carlo data sets.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to validate technical approaches, resolve performance issues, and mature flight-code solutions.
• Document analysis methods, simulation results, verification activities, and technical recommendations.
• Travel up to 10% as needed to support program and customer requirements.

This position can be filled at either a Level 3 or Level 4.

 

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.  Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
• Experience with Kalman Filtering
• Experience with signal processing for guided missiles and/or interceptors.
• Proficiency in creating and maintaining algorithms and analysis tools in C++, MATLAB and Python
• Strong foundation in probability theory / statistics
• Experience with Electro-Optical imaging systems
• Ability to travel 10% of the time

• Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.  Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
• Experience with Kalman Filtering
• Experience with signal processing for guided missiles and/or interceptors.
• Proficiency in creating and maintaining algorithms and analysis tools in C++, MATLAB and Python
• Strong foundation in probability theory / statistics
• Experience with Electro-Optical imaging systems
• Ability to travel 10% of the time

 

 Preferred Qualifications:  

• Advanced degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or applied math
• Experience with onboard/offboard sensor fusion
• Experience with analyzing large Monte Carlo data sets and/or experience with designing and analyzing simulation experiments

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
