About the Role

This role contributes to the delivery of customer outcomes that are reliable, thoughtful, and create meaningful impact for customers and society. The role holder is expected to embed a customer first mindset in all decisions and actions by developing a clear understanding of customer needs, taking end to end ownership to resolve issues, and working collaboratively across teams to continuously enhance the customer journey—both directly and indirectly.

Lead the design, delivery and adoption of AI-powered solutions and digital platforms for Agency business. Drive the evaluation, architecture and implementation of innovative technology solutions, including GenAI, intelligent automation, mobile applications and web portals, ensuring alignment with business objectives and enterprise technology standards.

Provide technical leadership across the solution lifecycle, from ideation and architecture to implementation and operational support. Maintain sufficient hands-on engineering capability to support solution development, technical troubleshooting, prototyping and delivery activities when required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Application Delivery, Development, Architecture Design/Implementation (70%)

AI Solution Architecture & Agentic Engineering

• Lead end-to-end solution design and clearly explain when to use deterministic software, workflow automation, RAG, an AI agent or multi-agent approach
• Design and hands-on implement LLM-powered applications and agentic workflows using tool/function calling, structured outputs, state, memory, routing and human-in-the-loop controls where appropriate
• Build production RAG solutions covering ingestion, chunking, embeddings, vector/hybrid retrieval, metadata filtering, reranking, grounding and traceability
• Ensure seamless interoperability across the AI solutions with existing platforms, workflow engines and digital channels

Application Delivery, Development & Deployment

• Convert prototypes into secure, scalable and maintainable production services, and personally implement critical/reference components.
• Develop custom workflows using tool-enabled agents
• Establish sound software engineering practices for Python/backend services, APIs, automated testing, error handling, resilience and release management
• Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Ensure all deliverables comply with established corporate governance standards and policies, and drive the governance review and approval process through to successful sign-off.

Evaluation, Observability & Optimization

• Define measurable acceptance criteria and evaluation datasets
• Build automated evaluation/regression pipelines covering task success, retrieval quality, safety, latency and cost
• Implement end-to-end tracing, structured logging and metrics for prompts, retrieval, agent/tool execution, failures, token usage and model performance
• Establish prompt/configuration versioning, release gates, rollback and continuous-improvement practices using production feedback

System Support and Technical Advices (30%)

System Support and BAU Maintenance

• Provide system support for existing applications as well as and BAU maintenance after project transition
• Ensure all AIA HK TDA project and BAU deliverables are maintained in compliance with AIA Group Security and other standards
• Ensure deliverables and systems comply with all applicable standards and guidelines
• Monitor and ensure the ongoing scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability of digital platforms and applications
• Perform other responsibilities and duties assigned by managers to meet business objectives

AI Security, Governance & Enterprise Readiness

• Control for data privacy, least-privilege tool access, secrets management, prompt-injection/data-exfiltration risks, content safety, auditability and human oversight
• Partner with architecture, cyber security, risk/compliance and data teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise governance and regulatory requirements
• Ensure production readiness for availability, resilience, supportability and operational ownership

Field-to-Product Feedback Loop

• Translate business challenges into structured, testable AI use cases and product requirements
• Turn deployment learnings into reusable libraries, modules, reference architectures and engineering standards
• Challenge “AI-first” approaches when conventional engineering provides a safer, simpler or more effective solution

Stakeholder Engagement & Enablement

• Lead technical discovery and explain solution rationale, assumptions, alternatives and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Lead by example through prototyping, coding, debugging, design reviews and code reviews rather than operating solely as an architecture/co-ordination role
• Guide and mentor engineers on AI patterns, system design, implementation, testing, troubleshooting and production operation

Minimum Job Requirements:

Experience, Qualifications & Certifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in software engineering, solution architecture, digital platform delivery, or technology consulting, preferably within the insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries.
• Proven track record in designing, building, and delivering complex enterprise-scale production systems end-to-end, covering architecture, development, testing, deployment, operational support, security, and continuous improvement.
• Practical experience delivering Generative AI solutions, including LLM applications, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI Agents, workflow orchestration, tool/function calling, multi-agent solutions, and enterprise system integration.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing data pipelines, workflow automation, document ingestion frameworks, API integrations, and event-driven architectures supporting AI and digital platform capabilities.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, microservices architecture, RESTful API design, cloud-native development, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Strong experience operating within enterprise governance, security, risk, and compliance frameworks, with demonstrated ability to deliver solutions that meet stringent security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, including digital customer servicing, agency platforms, underwriting, policy administration, claims, or distribution ecosystems, is highly desirable.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and AI capabilities, including Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Search, AKS, and API Management, is highly desirable.

 

Technical Competency

• AI Solution Architecture & Engineering - Proven experience designing, developing, and delivering enterprise-grade AI solutions leveraging Agentic AI patterns, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Large Language Models (LLMs), workflow orchestration, tool/function calling, memory management, and enterprise system integration.
• Full-Stack Software Engineering - Strong hands-on development experience in Python, React, and Java Spring Boot, with the ability to design, build, optimize, and support scalable web and mobile applications in production environments.
• Cloud & Platform Engineering - Strong cloud engineering expertise with modern cloud-native architecture, platform scalability, resilience, observability, and operational excellence. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Search, API Management, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Container Apps, and related enterprise platform services.
• Security, DevOps & Enterprise Integration - Experience implementing DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using technologies such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform. Strong understanding of secure software development lifecycle (SDLC), application security, identity and access management, API security, data protection, workflow automation, and enterprise integration patterns. Proven ability to deliver solutions that meet enterprise governance, security, compliance, and audit requirements.
