Job Title

Advisor, Software Development Engineering

About your role:

As Advisor - Software Engineering, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable, highly available software solutions while remaining hands-on across architecture, coding, and production support. You will work with engineering teams and technical leaders to solve complex problems, improve delivery quality, and accelerate business outcomes. Your work will help strengthen engineering standards, improve customer-focused execution, and enable reliable high-scale platforms across diverse technology stacks.

What you'll do:

  • Design, build, and launch high-scale, highly available software services that support critical business and customer needs.
  • Work across multiple technology stacks such as Java, .NET, or similar platforms, applying strong engineering fundamentals and technology-agnostic problem solving.
  • Lead hands-on architecture, design, and implementation efforts for complex systems, ensuring scalability, resilience, performance, and maintainability.
  • Apply deep knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and distributed system design to solve complex technical and production challenges.
  • Drive a high bar for engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and practical improvement of development standards.
  • Leverage appropriate AI-assisted engineering tools to improve developer productivity, delivery speed, and measurable execution outcomes.
  • Work backward from customer needs to define technical solutions that improve user experience, reliability, and business value with strong end-to-end ownership.
  • Provide principal engineer or architect-level technical guidance while remaining a hands-on builder who supports team delivery at scale.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve cloud-native development patterns, architecture decisions, and operational readiness across services.
  • Lead deep-dive troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues, helping teams restore service and improve long-term system reliability.
  • Inspire engineering teams through practical execution, strong technical judgment, and a bias for action in solving meaningful customer and platform challenges.

Experience you'll need to have:

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or related technical disciplines building and supporting enterprise-scale applications or services.
  • 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching high-scale, highly available services in production environments.
  • Experience working across multiple technology stacks such as Java, .NET, or similar platforms with strong command of software engineering fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with system architecture, distributed systems design, cloud-native development, and resilient service design in modern cloud environments.
  • Experience conducting architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews that improve engineering quality, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex production issues and leading technical deep dives that improve service reliability and customer outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience.

Experience that would be great to have:

  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity, development quality, or delivery speed.
  • Experience guiding engineering teams as a principal engineer, architect, or technical lead without direct people management responsibility.
  • Experience in financial services, payments, or other high-availability regulated environments.
  • Experience mentoring engineers on design quality, operational excellence, and customer-focused delivery.

How you'll work:

  • This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.

Thank you for considering employment with Fiserv.  Please:

  • Complete the step-by-step profile and attach your resume (either is acceptable, both are preferable).
