Job Overview

WHO WE ARE

Relativity is a leading legal data intelligence company building technology that helps users organize data, discover the truth, and act on it with confidence. Our AI-powered, cloud platform, RelativityOne, transforms massive volumes of complex information into actionable insights for litigation, investigations, regulatory inquiries, data breach responses, and other high-stakes legal work where accuracy and trust are crucial.

The world’s largest law firms, corporations, and government agencies rely on Relativity’s legal AI software to securely surface and manage the most relevant and impactful information in their matters. Beyond our commercial impact, we are committed to expanding access to technology and supporting pro bono legal work.

WHAT WE DO

The Unstructured Storage Services team is part of Data Intelligence Foundation and is responsible for delivering core data capabilities that power RelativityOne. The team provides self-serve, reliable unstructured storage services for product engineering teams and external customers, enabling teams to move faster without rebuilding storage, reliability, and operational tooling.
The team designs and operates cloud-native storage capabilities built on Azure technologies, partnering closely with product engineering, SRE, operations, and security teams to improve developer experience, reduce operational burden, and deliver scalable platform services.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Advanced Software Engineer (.NET) on the Unstructured Storage Services team, you will design and build cloud-native storage capabilities that power RelativityOne. You will develop backend API-first services that are scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-aware while leveraging Azure storage technologies such as Blob Storage and Cosmos DB.
You will help evolve shared storage platform capabilities that support multi-tenancy, lifecycle management, performance optimization, and operational excellence across Relativity's cloud platform.

Job Description and Requirements

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design, build, and operate backend services for unstructured storage in RelativityOne using C#/.NET with a focus on reliability, scalability, security, and performance.
  • Implement and evolve Azure-based storage solutions, including Blob Storage and Cosmos DB, with lifecycle policies, multi-tenant isolation, access controls, and cost optimization.
  • Design and implement service-to-service communication using gRPC, including Protocol Buffers, contract versioning, streaming, deadlines, retries, and REST APIs.
  • Lead and participate in technical design reviews, document architectural decisions, and promote cloud-native storage patterns across engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, identify reliability and performance risks, and drive operational improvements through instrumentation, automation, and enhanced playbooks.
  • Contribute to the storage platform roadmap by evaluating technologies and recommending improvements aligned with business objectives and long-term platform evolution.
  • Collaborate with product engineering, SRE, and security teams to deliver solutions end-to-end and improve developer experience.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response activities to maintain service health and support customers.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience in backend services, distributed systems, or data/platform engineering.
  • Strong C#/.NET (Core) development skills.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing cloud-native storage solutions in Azure, AWS, or GCP, with Azure preferred.
  • Understanding of distributed storage fundamentals, including partitioning, consistency models, data access patterns, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and tools such as GitHub Actions and deploying production services.
  • Fluent English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working within Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.

Preferred

  • Experience with Azure Blob Storage and Cosmos DB.
  • Experience designing and implementing gRPC services and distributed service communication.
  • Experience with multi-tenant platforms, storage lifecycle management, and access control models.
  • Familiarity with service observability, operational excellence, and incident response practices.
  • Experience optimizing large-scale storage systems for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
