  • Assess and manage adults presenting with acquired swallowing difficulties and dysphagia.
  • Assess and provide intervention for adults with acquired communication difficulties.
  • Develop and implement individualised treatment and management plans based on patients’ clinical needs.
  • Provide specialist dysphagia assessment, advice and management in line with professional standards and local protocols.
  • Work autonomously while recognising when further clinical input or escalation is required.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support effective patient care and discharge planning.
  • Provide appropriate advice, education and support to patients, relatives, carers and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and documentation.
  • Participate in relevant multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions and clinical reviews.
  • Manage clinical priorities effectively within a busy acute environment.
  • Work in accordance with HCPC and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) standards and guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
  • HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
  • Essential: Previous experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist within an acute hospital setting.
  • Essential: Dysphagia training and clinical experience in the assessment and management of swallowing difficulties.
  • Experience working with adults with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties.
  • The ability to independently manage a clinical caseload.
  • Confidence working autonomously within a multidisciplinary acute setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment, treatment and decision-making skills.
