Actuarial Intern (Summer 2027) 

12-week placement 

Location: Edinburgh

We are hiring 6-8 interns to work in the Actuarial department for Summer 2027.  This 12-week internship will provide successful candidates with the opportunity to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of actuarial work through hands-on involvement in Aegon UK’s Finance department or wider Investment Solutions team. 

Our Finance department is extremely wide-ranging, interacting with just about every area of the business and, of course, with customers.

At the simplest level, one of the most important things we do is ensure that all payments are effectively processed, so people receive the right amount of money on time. There are numerous other functions within finance, including our actuarial team, which ensures that Aegon has the appropriate level of capital and liquidity and the correct management structure in place. The actuaries’ challenge is to ensure that the business is fit for purpose and is delivering the right solutions for investors and customers; they also play an important part in confirming that any information Aegon provides is factual and correct. Ultimately, our responsibility is to make the company as sustainable as possible whilst doing the same for our customers’ investments. Sustainability is at the heart of everything Aegon does – whether it’s reducing our electricity consumption or finding new routes to advertise and market our products.

We’d love to hear from you if you are: 

• An undergraduate currently in your penultimate or final year of a university degree, with strong mathematical/statistical or Finance content and on course to achieve at least a 2:1 Honours degree, or equivalent. 
• Interested in a career as an Actuary. 
• Available full time between June – August 2027. 
• Highly motivated, with the drive and stamina to act on your own initiative. 
• Proficient in MS Excel and Word. 
• Able to analyse and interpret large amounts of complex data. 
• A team player with strong attention to detail and an analytical approach. 
• Skilled in both verbal and written communication.

You will be required to work 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday on an hourly rate of £13.45

We believe in hiring for potential. This is designed to find out more about you, your skills and natural behaviours. You’ll receive an email from our assessment partner (Arctic Shores) with details and an invitation to complete the tasks. These typically take 20-30mins and can be done on a variety of devices, including your phone.
