Qualifications

Education and Experience :

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration or related field and two (2) to four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience, at least one of which is directly related to the work of the position. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant is highly desirable. Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Knowledge of: Theory and practice of governmental accounting, particularly as related to County operations; federal, state and local laws governing accounting procedures and systems; computer applications, especially those related to financial reporting systems such as Excel, word processing and graphics; principles and practices of supervision.

Ability to:  Research, analyze and interpret accounting applications and processes; interpret and explain County accounting policies and procedures; prepare clear and concise reports; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including County officials and the general public.

Employment References will be conducted for the final candidates and may include verification of education. Background check may be required.

It is the general policy of the County that new employees should be hired at the lower steps of the applicable range and advance through the range at the normal progression.

Examples of Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Create, track and report on grants on SEFA.

Train grants users on proper grant procedures within Workday ERP.

Track expenditures; prepare journal entries; arrange fund transfers; reconcile accounts to the General Ledger.

Research and interpret accounting and financial issues; develop recommendations for policies and procedures and contribute to department fiscal planning.

Set up and maintain suppliers.

Prepare 1099's.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Retirement Information

All Clark County employees must participate in a WASHINGTON STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM PLAN (PERS, PSERS or LEOFF).Employee contributions begin the first day of work. Current contribution rates vary by plan but could range from 5% to 15% of gross pay, depending on the plan choice.
