ROLE OVERVIEW
The Rocky Mountain Account Executive serves as a brand ambassador for the FSCO portfolio across Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Aspen, and Vail, cultivating lasting relationships with leading interior designers, architects, and developers while driving growth across fabric, wallcovering, rugs, and trim. This is a highly field-focused, relationship-driven role requiring approximately 50% travel to meet with clients in person, understand their needs, present thoughtfully curated product solutions, and identify opportunities across Schumacher, Patterson Flynn, Tillett Textiles, and Backdrop.
Working collaboratively with our inside sales team to own and grow a shared portfolio of accounts, the Account Executive acts as a trusted advisor to the design community—bringing strong sales instincts, an appreciation for great design, and the ability to translate relationships into meaningful business growth.
Account Executive Responsibilities
Territory Ownership
- Develop and grow sales across Schumacher, Patterson Flynn, Tillett Textiles, and Backdrop, spanning fabric, wallcovering, trim, and rugs within your geographic territory.
- Cultivate a strategic view of your territory, including leading firms, rising design studios, dormant accounts ready for reactivation, new business opportunities, and the trade events that shape the market.
- Know your client. Develop a strong understanding of each firm’s aesthetic, project mix, and business needs, and use that knowledge to thoughtfully curate each meeting—knowing which brands, categories, and products to lead with to make every client interaction relevant and impactful.
- Consistently meet monthly, quarterly, and annual sales plans across all brands and categories, taking shared ownership with your sales partners for the strategy and execution required to achieve them.
- Main areas of travel (with additional cities possible as territory grows):
-
- Colorado: Aspen, Vail
-
- Idaho: Boise, Sun Valley
-
- Montana: Bozeman, Big Sky, Missoula, Whitefish
-
- Wyoming: Jackson
Relationship Building
- Be present in the field, including designer offices, project sites, industry events, designer dinners, and other relevant events and gatherings.
- Develop trusted advisor relationships with principal designers, junior staff, purchasing teams, and other key contacts across your accounts.
- Become an extension of your clients’ firms—a trusted resource they regularly turn to for project needs, product expertise, and new opportunities to support and grow their business.
- Serve as a brand ambassador within the local design community, representing FSCO and its portfolio with professionalism, warmth, strong product knowledge, and a genuine passion for design.
Lead Generation & Cross-Sell
- Generate qualified opportunities across every brand and category, partnering with your inside colleagues to bring each opportunity through to close.
- Provide clear briefs, relevant designer and project context, and timely follow-through so the inside team can execute effectively.
- Identify natural cross-sell opportunities across the portfolio. Every Schumacher account is a potential Patterson Flynn rug opportunity, every Tillett project may present a custom rug specification, and every wallcovering installation may create a trim opportunity. Bring the full portfolio into client conversations thoughtfully and strategically.
Curation & Product Storytelling
- Curate the sample story for each account with thoughtful consideration of the firm’s aesthetic, current projects, and clients.
- Lead project shops, line shows, and in-person presentations with clarity, taste, and confidence.
- Act as a knowledgeable brand ambassador, staying deeply current on product launches, collaborations, brand stories, and trends across the portfolio.
Pipeline & Partnership
- Use FSCO’s CRM, sample tools, and reporting platforms with discipline, maintaining clean, accurate, and current account records.
- Partner closely with your inside team as equal collaborators, recognizing the distinct expertise each person brings to the account. Clear communication, mutual respect, and shared ownership are essential to the work.
- Communicate progress, blockers, opportunities, and pipeline status to your Managing Director and inside partners on a regular cadence.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Skills
- 3–5+ years of outside sales experience, ideally within luxury, interior design, home furnishings, or the trade.
- Proven ability to build and grow a territory through relationship development, strategic prospecting, and consistent follow-through.
- Demonstrated success setting and achieving sales goals, influencing purchasing decisions, and identifying opportunities to grow business within existing and prospective accounts.
- Multi-line or multi-category sales experience, or a clear track record of quickly mastering complex product assortments.
- Strong territory and time-management skills, with the ability to strategically plan client visits, travel, prospecting, and follow-up across a large geographic region.
- Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating closely with inside sales partners to deliver an exceptional client experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a polished, professional, and warm presence across all levels of a client organization.
- Comfort using digital tools to manage relationships and drive business, including CRM systems (Odoo or comparable), Microsoft Office, Instagram, and email marketing platforms.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% of the time, including regular overnight travel throughout the territory.
- Dependable transportation, a clean driving record, and a willingness to travel throughout your territory, including comfort driving in winter weather conditions.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience and a strong track record of success may be considered in place of formal credentials.
Who You Are
- A salesperson with great taste. You have a genuine eye for design and an appreciation for color, scale, texture, and materials.
- A natural connector. You are energized by being in the field, meeting people, cultivating new relationships, and deepening existing ones.
- Polished, warm, and professional. You can confidently engage with principal designers and firm leadership while remaining approachable and collaborative with junior designers, purchasing teams, and support staff.
- A proactive business developer. You are always looking for the next opportunity—whether that means opening a new account, expanding an existing relationship, or introducing a client to a category they have yet to explore.
- Collaborative and team-oriented. You thrive as an equal partner within a shared account team, working closely with your SSR and Account Manager toward common goals. You value the expertise and contributions of your teammates, communicate openly, and understand that each person plays a distinct and equally important role in growing the business and delivering an exceptional client experience.
- Driven and positive. You bring energy, curiosity, resilience, and grace to every interaction.
- Self-directed, organized, and dependable. You take ownership of your calendar, territory, pipeline, and follow-through without needing constant direction.
- Adaptable and comfortable with change. You can manage competing priorities, pivot quickly, and thrive in an environment where no two days look exactly the same.
- Genuinely passionate about design. You light up when you walk into a beautifully designed room and enjoy helping designers discover products that make their work even better.
- Invested in long-term growth. You want to build relationships, develop a market, and grow a territory—not simply hit a quota.
