As part of UNH Manchester's professional advising model, provide proactive appreciative individual and group advising to a variety of undergraduate students.
Duties/Responsibilities
Student Advising and Support
- Advise a diverse undergraduate student population, from all majors at UNH Manchester.
- Engage students in reflective conversations that build understanding of degree requirements and university policies.
- Employ motivational interviewing and appreciative advising to help students set goals and take ownership of their academic journey.
- Serve as the Advising lead for UNH Manchester Study Away advising including determining eligibility, providing study away advising, and offering information sessions and other programming to UNH Manchester students to promote study away, in collaboration with UNH Global.
Student Success and Retention Initiatives
- Conduct proactive outreach to students identified through early alert systems, predictive analytics, or faculty referrals, ensuring timely engagement and intervention.
- Help students identify and resolve obstacles to academic success.
- Serve as academic coach for students who have fallen below minimum academic expectations.
- Be an active participant in the life of the College by attending and supporting major events such as Commencement, Honors Convocation, and other all-hands-on-deck gatherings.
- Support large-scale initiatives such as Open House, Admitted Student Day, New Student Orientation, new student seminars, or academic recovery programs as assigned.
Data-Informed Practice and Continuous Improvement
- Use student success dashboards, CRM systems (e.g., myWildcatSuccess, Banner, Degree Works), and data analytics to monitor advising activity, appointment trends, and alert patterns.
- Maintain detailed advising records and notes in accordance with FERPA and university standards.
- Contribute to institutional assessment efforts by providing feedback on outreach and student engagement trends.
Collaboration and Campus Partnerships
- Work closely with faculty, deans' office, and academic support services to coordinate interventions and align advising with curricular goals.
- Partner with student engagement, basic needs, student accessibility services, military and veteran services, and wellness units to connect students with comprehensive support.
- Participate in cross-functional committees or working groups focused on student success and persistence.
Professional Development and Leadership
- Stay current on student success research, advising best practices, and equity-minded strategies in higher education.
- Engage in professional learning and contribute to an institutional culture of continuous improvement.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Commitment to student-centered advising approach.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in related field such as higher education, academic advising, counseling or student development.
- Familiarity with Appreciative Advising Framework.
- Experience with Degree Works, Banner, and EAB Navigate.
- Experience working with transfer students and evaluating transfer credit.
- Familiarity with academic support services including disability services, academic skill building, and working with students in academic difficulty.
- Experience with new student orientation events.
- Experience teaching First Year Seminar.

Compensation Pay Range:
