Job Description:

Basic Function
Assemble, solder, inspect, and complete electronic and mechanical components used in flowmeters and related products. This role performs precision hand soldering, including surface-mount and through-hole work, in accordance with approved work instructions, drawings, bills of material, routing sheets, and applicable IPC-A-610 workmanship criteria. The Soldering Operator is responsible for producing safe, reliable, high-quality assemblies while meeting established production schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Plan and lay out work in the proper assembly sequence using routing sheets, bills of material, drawings, visual aids, and written work instructions.
•Perform precision hand soldering and rework on surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole electronic components used in flowmeter assemblies.
•Prepare components, printed circuit boards, wires, and terminals for soldering, including tinning, forming, placement, and cleaning as required.
•Inspect solder joints and completed electronic assemblies for workmanship, placement, polarity, damage, cleanliness, and conformance with IPC-A-610 criteria and internal quality requirements.
•Use soldering irons, hot-air/rework equipment, microscopes or magnification devices, hand tools, fixtures, and other production equipment safely and proficiently.
•Accurately assemble subassemblies and completed flowmeters, including mechanical and electronic components, fittings, covers, cans, and labels, where trained.
•Complete required in-process checks, production records, traceability documentation, and nonconformance reporting accurately and on time.
•Identify and communicate defects, material discrepancies, equipment concerns, and process issues to the appropriate team member or supervisor.
•Handle electronic components in accordance with electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls and other product-handling requirements.
•Maintain a clean, organized workstation and care for tools and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
•Support company continuous improvement, quality, cost, delivery, and productivity initiatives.
•Maintain regular and reliable attendance; work cooperatively in a team environment.
•Follow all safety, quality, environmental, and company procedures.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

•High school diploma or GED preferred.

•At least one year of electronic assembly, hand soldering, or related manufacturing experience preferred.

•Experience soldering surface-mount and through-hole components preferred.

•IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 training or certification is preferred; equivalent demonstrated knowledge and skill will be considered.

•Prior experience assembling flowmeters, instrumentation, or other precision electronic products is a plus.

Required Skills and Qualifications
•Demonstrated ability to produce consistent, acceptable solder joints and recognize common soldering defects.
•Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, bills of material, assembly documentation, and basic component identification markings.
•Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and ability to perform precise repetitive work.
•Ability to use microscopes or other magnification equipment for extended periods as required by the work.
•Basic math, reading, writing, and computer skills needed to complete production and quality records.
•Ability to work independently after training and collaboratively within a production team.

Soldering Skills Assessment

*Successful completion of a practical soldering test is required to qualify for this position.
The assessment may evaluate component identification and placement, surface-mount and/or through-hole soldering, use of tools and magnification, ESD and safety practices, workmanship, defect recognition, rework technique, and the ability to follow written instructions. Continued qualification may require completion of company training and periodic demonstration of soldering proficiency.
