The CTO, Software organization at HP is a global team of thousands of engineers and leaders shaping the future of how software and platform technologies power HP’s product portfolio. The organization is responsible for the vision, strategy, architecture, engineering, and operations of the software and platform technology stacks behind HP’s products. Our mission is to deliver magical, AI-enabled experiences to tens of millions of customers worldwide. The Vice President, Apps role within the CTO, Software team leads a large global organization of engineers responsible for the design, development, and operations of software stacks behind customer-facing HP applications, services and solutions. These include advanced technology capabilities at the intersection of software and shared platforms for HPs personal computing, solutions and printing products, spanning both consumer and commercial segments. This senior engineering leadership position offers a unique opportunity for a passionate leader to help advance HP’s local AI strategy through AI-native applications at the edge. This role is critical to advancing HP’s software-led business transformation and growth by driving unified AI-enabled customer experiences and enabling new efficiencies and operating models.

This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer, Software at HP. The leader will serve as a trusted partner to C-level executives and stakeholders across product and technology, with the opportunity to deliver sustained, company-wide impact at HP—a global technology powerhouse and long-standing Fortune 100 company with more than 28,000 patents, over $55 billion in annual revenue, and 58,000 employees worldwide. This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer, Software at HP. Responsibilities

  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of accountability and a customer-first mindset.

  • Attract, build, manage, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers and leaders with diverse expertise, perspectives, and backgrounds.

  • Drive an AI-native paradigm across the full software development lifecycle, leveraging AI as a foundational layer and positioning AI agents as core participants in writing, testing, and refining code from the ground up.

  • Implement a shift from manual coding to AI-enabled design, verification, and orchestration of intelligent, automated workflows, delivering step-function improvements in code quality and developer productivity, and materially reducing toil and cognitive load.

  • Partner closely with stakeholders to implement and exemplify a true platform engineering producer–consumer model, supported by bidirectional accountability and service-level objectives. • Serve as the engineering leader accountable to internal customers and stakeholders across: (1) product development (building, testing, and maintaining front-end and back-end application code to deliver business value), (2) platform consumption (maximizing as-a-service use of CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, databases, and other platform capabilities), (3) feature delivery (partnering with product managers to deliver new features and enhance existing software), and (4) operational support (monitoring, debugging, and patching applications while ensuring compliance with security and operational policies defined by platform teams).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in computer science, engineering, or related field.

  • Current or prior software engineering experience operating at the VP level within an established technology company.

  • 15+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 8+ years in senior people management roles, and preferably 4+ years leading global software engineering teams serving multiple internal customers and delivering capabilities used by millions of users or supporting $100M+ businesses.

  • Demonstrated success building high-performing, diverse engineering teams and improving organizational efficiency.

  • Proven ability to deliver measurable business value through engineering excellence, efficiency, and execution speed.

  • Deep technical expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern AI-native software development lifecycle practices.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver persuasive, senior-executive-level content.

  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building deep, trusted cross-organizational relationships.

The pay range for this role is $320,000 to $350,000 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
