Über diese Newsroom Strategy Manager Stelle bei The New York Times

The New York Times · Vor Ort · New York, NY

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

The New York Times Newsroom Strategy team is looking for a Strategy Manager with journalism, strategy and data experience to help shape and advance the newsroom’s biggest goals.

This is an important and exciting moment to work in strategy at The Times. Our journalism has never been stronger or more relevant, and our newsroom continues to expand with an ever-wider array of beats, formats and expertise. At the same time, a rapidly changing media ecosystem presents significant opportunities as well as challenges, from changing audience habits to video and A.I.

The Newsroom Strategy team works with Times leaders to help the newsroom chart and implement our strategy. From coverage to audience to operations, we help identify long-term opportunities, set priorities and accomplish them. The team has helped to shape our major recent video investment; expanded our journalism with new coverage initiatives and investments in areas like Live, Well and local; and partnered with teams like Audience and Security to strengthen critical parts of our journalism operation.

As a Manager on the team, you will lead projects, undertake analysis and recommend paths forward to ensure we are maximizing our impact. You’ll take a reporter’s eye to The Times and our priorities — spotting and investigating opportunities and challenges — and develop plans to address them. We will look to you for insightful research, data analysis and problem solving; effective partnership with stakeholders; and an enterprising and collaborative spirit. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the organization – journalists, audience and data, corporate strategy, finance, product, HR and others.

In all your work, you’ll be rooted in our journalistic mission and the value of independence, and ensure that we are considering a wide range of perspectives from inside and outside The Times.

This role reports to the deputy editor for Newsroom Strategy and is based in New York, with regular attendance in the office at least four days each week.

    • Develop practical solutions and plans to implement them
  • Build advisory relationships and trusting partnerships
  • Convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling way – in writing and in person
  • Operate in an enterprising and efficient manner with moderate oversight
  • Demonstrate strong journalistic and ethical judgment, and work in accordance with our journalistic values and standards

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in a journalism or other relevant media role
  • Experience producing strategic research and analyses, including data and financial models
  • Experience communicating recommendations to senior leaders in writing (e.g., memos, slide presentations) and verbally
  • Experience breaking down complex problems into pieces that can be solved with data, analysis, and clear assumptions
  • Passion for journalism and commitment to The Times’ mission and values

Preferred Qualifications:
