The Editorial Content Strategist plays a pivotal role in strengthening Thorlabs’ position as a leading photonics tools manufacturer by ensuring the quality, technical accuracy, and brand adherence of technical content published to the ecommerce site and other marketing channels. This position requires a thorough understanding of Thorlabs’ portfolio and marketing-related processes and a passion for technical excellence. Although the position is based out of Newton, NJ or Lafayette, Colorado, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.
• Content Quality and Accuracy: Ensure all website presentations, updates, and marketing materials meet high standards for technical accuracy, clarity, and brand alignment. Manage content to be finalized and live within required timelines, ensuring that all information is accurate and visually aligned with organizational standards.
• Editorial Gatekeeping: Serve as the primary reviewer for all materials, utilizing in-depth knowledge of the content management system (CMS), ERP platform (D365), and marketing processes to guarantee comprehensive updates. Maintain adherence to technical accuracy, completeness, clarity, and Thorlabs' brand/design standards.
• Timely Updates: Oversee the implementation of website updates related to Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), ensuring all changes are comprehensively applied and approved within 24 hours of receipt. Ensures presentations for New Product Introduction (NPI) are live within 24 hours of having all necessary information.
• Coaching and Development: Guide and coach employees to effectively present the unique value proposition of our technical products and services. Provide feedback to improve knowledge gaps within the Science Writer team and collaborate with the Technical Marketing Manager to address these gaps.
• Content Strategy and Roadmaps: Identify content needs and gaps and participate in developing strategic roadmaps for content creation. Develop proposals for complex projects or website updates and oversee their execution by the Science Writer team.
• Strategic Implementation: Develop and execute content strategies to enhance user experience and navigation across Thorlabs' extensive product portfolio. Strengthen Thorlabs' position as a leading photonics manufacturer through innovative and insightful technical content.
• Collaboration and Communication: Partner with the Director of Technical Content, eCommerce Project Manager, business unit leaders, and subject matter experts, as appropriate, to gather information, integrate new tools and features, and ensure content accuracy. Communicate effectively to address issues and achieve desired outcomes.
• Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize data from sales reports and Google Analytics to inform web placement and updates. Leverage insights from SEO experts to boost traffic and organic rankings.
• Project Oversight: Oversee projects and ad hoc teams as necessary to meet business needs, including the integration of new technologies or companies and the enhancement of the shopping experience on Thorlabs’ website.
Requirements
Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in technical content creation.
Education:
• Ph.D. degree in experimental physics or a closely related field with extensive hands-on photonics experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
• Able to multitask, be detail oriented, solve problems, and work under tight time constraints.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills necessary to lead, manage, and execute complex projects from concept to final product.
• Strong interpersonal skills for working in a team environment.
• Excellent communication skills to mediate and manage projects internally and in collaboration with other teams.
• Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and presentation skills in English.
• Able to flourish with minimal guidance, in a dynamic, fast-changing environment, and be proactive in times of ambiguity.
The estimated pay range for this role is $95,000 - $ 115,000 annually
