Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with the Coordination and management of the day-to-day program and administrative operations of the dual enrollment programs (Early College Programs).
  • Provides information and advice to current and prospective students, parents, faculty, and others in areas such as academic programs, admissions, and career planning.
  • Coordinates recruitment, admission, new student/parent orientation, and academic and social activities for dual enrollment students
  • Works collaboratively with University faculty/staff, the school districts, and local high schools to implement, monitor, and review dual enrollment student programs. Complies with state, high school, and University policies. Interacts with high school counselors, principals, and district administrators as needed.
  • Oversees academic progress and performance, counseling, discipline, enrichment, and leadership development of dual enrollment students.
  • Collaborates with the FGCU Honors College, Service Learning, Scholarly Innovation and Student Research, Internships and Cooperative programs, among others, to create opportunities for scholarly student engagement, student success, and retention.
  • Works with the Office of Exploratory Advising to monitor student academic progress and fulfillment of advising related requirements.
  • Conducts research to assess program performance and progress toward program objectives to make programmatic recommendations, complete required reporting, and to ensure attainment of program deliverables.
  • Assists with curriculum development and provides instruction to new students via the Early College Programs seminar class.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and Director to develop the Early College Mentor program. Coordinates the recruitment, selection, and training of student mentors.
  • Monitors program expenses and budgets for student social and academic programming.
  • Works collaboratively with Director to create and maintain tracking mechanisms for the Program's current and prospective students including database updates and report generation.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional experience in advising and counseling college and/or high school students.
  • Experience operating personal computers with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) software.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in educational leadership, student affairs, counselor education or related field.
  • Experience working with dual-enrolled high school students.
  • Experience facilitating first year seminar course or related workshops/programs.
  • Experience supervising students.
  • Experience with Banner and Canvas systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position including the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Knowledge of academic advising in higher education and high school contexts
  • Ability to develop and maintain a professional working relationship with students in the programs, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service.
  • Ability to present to large groups.
  • Ability to travel to required meetings or programs.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
