Maintenance Technician IV (Sr. Maintenance Technician)
Job Summary
The Sr. Maintenance Technician is a practical technical specialist who handles complex troubleshooting, repairs, and ensures the reliability of advanced automated material handling systems. This position is essential to each shift, contributing to automation uptime, and working collaboratively with Maintenance Leadership, Reliability teams, and PLC Engineering to help avoid recurring breakdowns. This role provides coaching & guidance to other Maintenance Technicians II & III.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair complex issues across automated systems including:
Conveyance (MDR, belt, sortation)
ASRS / shuttle systems
Pick modules, print & apply, scanners
Lead response to system-down or chronic fault conditions
Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, and controls-related troubleshooting
Restore equipment safely and efficiently to minimize downtime and service impact
Execute and improve preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) activities
Identify failure trends and recommend corrective actions to Maintenance Leadership
Support root cause analysis (RCA) for repeat or high-impact failures
Ensure PM work is completed to standard and documented accurately in the CMMS
Serve as technical escalation point for Maintenance Tech II & III
Coach and mentor Maintenance Technicians II & III on troubleshooting best practices
Support onboarding and skills development of new technicians
Model strong safety, quality, and ownership behaviors on the floor
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Partner with:
PLC Engineers for controls-related issues and logic changes
Reliability / Asset Analyst on equipment performance and lifecycle improvements
Operations during recovery, start-ups, and flow disruptions
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase uptime, throughput, and safety
Provide feedback on equipment design issues and maintainability concerns
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Bachelor Degree preferred
5+ years of maintenance experience in an automated distribution, manufacturing, or industrial environment
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
Proven experience working with automated material handling equipment
Ability to read and interpret:
Electrical schematics
Mechanical drawings
OEM manuals
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-availability operation
Experience with PLC-controlled systems (troubleshooting at I/O and fault level; no programming required) preferred
CMMS experience (PM execution, work order documentation)
Exposure to reliability concepts (MTBF, MTTR, RCA) preferred
Technical certifications or trade school background (electrical, mechatronics, industrial maintenance) preferred
Skills
Advanced troubleshooting and critical thinking
Strong sense of urgency and ownership
Ability to remain calm and methodical during system outages
Clear communication with both technical and non-technical partners
Safety-first mindset in a highly automated environment
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, OT and holidays as required
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and lift up to standard maintenance limits
Comfortable working around automated and energized equipment in compliance with safety standards

Hiring Range:
$35.20 USD - $44.00 USD per hourIncentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
