The Role
We’re seeking an Utility Rates & Regulatory Analyst to serve as Verse’s go-to internal expert on utility rates/tariffs, demand response programs, battery storage incentives, and interconnection rules across U.S. markets. This is a high-leverage role — you’ll be the person teams across the company turn to when they need to understand how rate eligibility and program rules actually work, and what that means for our customers and our platform.
You will be a trusted resource for our data science and customer-facing teams in particular, helping ensure that our analyses reflect real-world utility rules and that our customers’ cost-saving opportunities are accurately understood.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in utility rate structures (TOU, demand charges, export compensation, standby rates) across commercial and industrial customer classes, and serve as the internal authority on how these rates apply to our customers
- Understand demand response, battery storage, and virtual power plant programs in depth — including eligibility, performance requirements, payment structures, and stacking constraints — and advise internal teams on customer eligibility based on attributes such as load profile, meter type, geography, and utility territory
- Interpret interconnection rules and processes (FlexConnect, Rule 21, FERC 2222, state-level standards) and advise on how they affect customer eligibility for distributed energy resources
- Work alongside our third-party rate data provider to validate rate structures, flag discrepancies, and maintain internal documentation capturing nuances that are difficult to represent in structured data — ambiguous rate/tariff language, utility-specific interpretations, and known exceptions
- Monitor regulatory changes across priority markets and communicate what matters and why; engage directly with utility filings, rate schedules, and program handbooks as primary sources; maintain working knowledge of Large Load Tariffs and related regulatory proceedings
- Work closely with our data science and customer-facing teams to ensure analyses reflect real utility bills and program rules, and help identify cost-saving opportunities for customers through batteries, solar, and demand flexibility
What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- 2+ years of experience in energy regulatory affairs, utility tariff analysis, distributed energy, or a related field
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. utility rate structures and at least one of the following: demand response programs, behind-the-meter battery storage programs, or interconnection processes
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret tariff schedules, utility program handbooks, and regulatory filings, as well as in-depth analysis of utility bills
- Experience explaining how complex tariff or program rules apply to real customers — and doing so clearly for audiences who don’t live in the regulatory world
- Comfort working across multiple utility territories and regulatory jurisdictions simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and strong attention to detail
What Will Make You Standout (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience across a variety of billing structures, including integrated IOU, retail choice, and other direct-access supply agreements
- Familiarity with tools like OpenEI, Energy Toolbase, Arcadia, or Rate Acuity
- Exposure to DER modeling, load analysis, or bill calculation logic for C&I customers
- Experience working cross-functionally inside a technology company, advising teams on how energy rules apply to products or analyses
- Understanding of C&I storage and solar economics (demand charge management, ITC, SGIP, NEM for commercial accounts, and similar programs)

Base Pay Range
$110,000 - $140,000
This is the estimated base salary range for this position, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs.

The Role
We're looking for a highly analytical Senior Business Operations Analyst to help our customers unlock the full value of the Verse platform. The ideal candidate has a consulting background and thrives at the intersection of customer experience, product strategy, and data-driven insights. You’ll be the voice of the customer internally and a trusted advisor externally, ensuring our users succeed, stay engaged, and help shape the future of our product.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Engagement & Success
- Support customer onboarding and day-to-day engagement activities to ensure a positive user experience.
- Lead pilots with potential customers in close collaboration with the Data Science, Engineering, and Product teams
- Assist in gathering and organizing user feedback on goals, workflows, and product pain points, and collaborate with Product by documenting recurring customer needs for the product roadmap
- Help prepare and execute data analyses under the guidance of senior team members or the Data Science team.
Commercial Strategy Support
- Work closely with Marketing and Sales to share customer insights, success stories, and use cases.
- Support strategic go-to-market initiatives such as account prioritization, segmentation, and opportunity identification.
- Occasionally assist in high-impact sales efforts by providing context on customer needs and industry trends.
Business Operations & General Support
- Work on improving internal processes related to customer delivery and general business operations
- support the leadership team on preparation for key internal meetings, such as company all-hands
- Work with the CEO on board deck support, as well as presentations and models for investors
- Support product strategy through scoping and market estimates
What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- 2+ years at a top-tier consulting firm or in a similarly rigorous, analytical, and stakeholder-facing role with a strong track record of problem solving and cross-functional collaboration
- High level of proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience working in renewable energy space, especially with solar, wind, and battery assets
- Customer-first mindset with the ability to build strong customer relationships, listen and empathize, and translate feedback into actionable recommendations
- Strong communication skills – able to engage technical and non-technical audiences with equal fluency
- Collaborative and proactive, excited to work across functions in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
- Ability to work cross-functionally with product, data science, sales, marketing teams
- Experience working in renewable energy space
