About the team

Stripe’s Professional Services team works with our most strategic users, delivering excellence and enabling our users to succeed with Stripe. The new Forward Deployed Engineering team takes the evolution of our consulting services behind the keyboard by directly building and delivering software for our users. As a brand new offering from Stripe, we work directly with Stripe's users to build scalable Stripe integrations and standalone applications.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will work closely with Stripe’s Product & Engineering team to help shape the features that extend beyond what’s possible out of the box with Stripe integrations. You may be building standalone applications that are deployed in user environments, developing priority features within Stripe's ecosystem, or augmenting existing development staff for our users to deliver faster and more resilient connections to Stripe.

While maintenance is part of the work, you'll often be starting new and exciting projects. Since this is a new team at Stripe, you'll succeed if you get excited about driving direction and taking ownership of your work.

Responsibilities 

• Design and architect robust technical solutions, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and aligned with customer needs
• Design, build, and deploy production applications that combine user business logic, Stripe best practices, and user-facing interfaces
• Collaborate directly with internal and external stakeholders, bridging the gap between technical teams and executives
• Drive the direction of the new Forward Deployed Engineering arm at Stripe and contribute to technical projects
• Engage directly with users to deeply understand challenges, requirements, and co-develop solutions,
• Contribute tooling, frameworks, and best practices that scale impact across accounts

Minimum requirements

• 5+ years of professional, hands-on full-stack development experience with languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Ruby, Go, or Java
• Experience with backend infrastructure and building systems that scale
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and deploy production applications
• Excellence at rapid prototyping while maintaining appropriate quality standards
• Familiarity with containerized applications and object-oriented programming languages
• Superb problem-solving skills and the ability to understand the product and business side of development

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working as a software consultant
• Strong command of distributed systems, API design, and data modeling
• Familiarity working with AI APIs and leveraging AI code generation tools to accelerate productivity
• Proven track record of delivering technical solutions in enterprise environments that drive measurable outcomes
• A passion for handling ambiguity and picking up new technologies, frameworks, and tools while working in a variety of client environments

We help our customers create marketplaces, launch subscription businesses, expand globally, and more. This team provides critical implementation and post-launch services to help Stripe users maximize long-term value, quickly and confidently.

What you’ll do

Our Engagement Managers lead complex and multi-faceted project teams that accelerate implementations and drive meaningful growth and innovation on the Stripe platform. As an Engagement Manager at Stripe, you will lead enterprises to become long-term Stripe users and advocates of our products and solutions. 

Stripe Professional Services provides a rapid path to success and ongoing value for our users. Our Engagement Managers enable users and partners to integrate Stripe’s solutions rapidly while delivering immediate impact and measurable value.

Responsibilities

• Drive innovation and adoption of deployment practices, provide product adoption insights and help users achieve the maximum value from their Stripe investment.
• Proactively manage the integration of Stripe’s products into the user’s application/technical architecture, test and change management strategies and transformation timelines.
• Deliver program management expertise based on experience, continuous learning, and in-depth knowledge of Stripe’s products and implementation best practices. 
• Focus on the continuous improvement and enablement of the Stripe Implementation Methodology and it’s associate tools, templates and processes
• Provide well-established program governance to manage requirements in line with the agreed scope and business objectives. 
• Provide proactive risk assessment, prevention and mitigation plans and the efficient identification, tracking, and resolution of issues and decisions using established tools and templates with internal and user stakeholders. 
• Proactively drive interlock between the user and Stripe’s Product and Engineering teams to ensure alignment with Stripe’s roadmap.
• Ensure a smooth transition of the implemented Stripe capabilities into operation for the user, including knowledge transfer and the handover to Stripe Support.
• Actively participate in a global community of practitioners to continually evolve and improve the way in which Stripe leads and supports our Users through high impact and complex implementations of Stripe’s payment infrastructure

Minimum requirements

• 8+ years of consulting experience partnering with enterprise level strategic users on technology solutions, with a track record of top performance or a related field
• Ability to understand complex business requirements and craft tailored solutions
• Ability to quickly learn and explain technical concepts to Stripe’s largest users in a way which they will understand. Some may be deeply technical, others may be more business focussed, so you’ll need to talk to users in a language they can understand
• Proven program management skills and experience
• Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify suboptimal processes and drive more efficient ways of working
• Ability to recognize repeated user-facing issues and build scalable solutions
• Superior verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to operate independently in a highly ambiguous and fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated ability to engage with and lead executive stakeholders and key decision makers on the user side to drive towards an agreed outcome
• Experience in working with or in complex enterprise organizational and decision making structures 
• An ability to work collaboratively with and influence Stripe’s product and engineering teams to advocate for our users and continuously shape the forward roadmap of Stripe’s applications

Preferred qualifications

• Prior experience at a growth stage Internet/Enterprise Software company
• Industry certifications to ensure project success. Typical certifications include: 
• Certified ScrumMaster 
• PMP or PRINCE2 Certification
• Prior experience in the payments industry
• A familiarity with the integration and testing of APIs

• Collaborate with Sales, Solution Architecture and Implementation teams to drive client engagement, customer wins, and revenue on behalf of the Professional Services team
• Plan and execute integration engineering end-to-end, from high-level architecture down to code
• Think on your feet and comfortable talking about technical concepts, and explaining how Stripe works, both from a product feature and API architecture perspective
• Educate our users and the developer community about Stripe's value proposition, best practices and new technical developments
• Be the primary, ongoing technical point of contact for our largest users' and partners' technical teams
• Keep abreast of new Stripe technologies and software products and showcases technical thought leadership in whitepapers, conferences and other industry events 
• Providing recommendations, feedback and best practices to the product and engineering teams

• 4 years + experience in a Software Engineering / Integration Engineering role
• Comfortable with various code-level debugging (Stripe code and user code)
• Be comfortable talking about technical concepts, and explaining how Stripe works, both from a product features and API architecture perspective.

• Confident and comfortable with customers
• Strong generalist technical experience
