Job Summary:
St. Anne's-Belfield School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substitute Teacher to join our team, providing coverage for the Upper School Grades 9-12 classrooms on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and an enthusiasm for supporting student learning across a range of grade levels and subjects. Substitute Teachers are responsible for implementing prepared lesson plans, managing classroom environments, and fostering a positive, supportive atmosphere that encourages student growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Delivery: Follow and implement lesson plans prepared by the primary classroom teacher, ensuring continuity of learning for all students.
- Classroom Management: Create a respectful and inclusive classroom environment, maintaining order and promoting positive behavior to support a safe and productive learning space.
- Student Support: Provide individual and group instruction and support to meet students' varied learning needs. Address student questions and provide feedback as necessary.
- Attendance and Documentation: Accurately record daily attendance and submit any necessary documentation, including assignments or reports, to the regular teacher and/or administrative staff.
- Communication: Collaborate with teaching assistants, grade-level teams, and administration as needed. Provide notes on the day's events or progress for the returning teacher.
- Adaptability: Be prepared to support students across a range of subjects and adjust to the needs of different grade levels, from Grades 9-12.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred. Relevant coursework and/or experience working with children in an educational setting required.
- Certification: Valid state teaching certification preferred; substitute teaching certification or permit may be acceptable based on state requirements.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children, preferably in a school environment. Familiarity with high school curriculum is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow detailed lesson plans and adapt as necessary.
- Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and administrators.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive, proactive approach to student engagement
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Occasionally required to lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

About the Position

St. Anne’s-Belfield School seeks a full-time mathematics teacher and advisor for the 2026-2027 school year. This role relies on someone who can confidently teach algebra through calculus and collaborate effectively with co-teachers of the same courses. A successful teacher in this position can explain concepts clearly, employ tools to make learning visible, adapt their practices to a modular schedule and an integrated math approach, and communicate effectively with students.
Full-time classroom teaching experience, strong organizational and classroom management skills, and the ability to joyfully teach adolescents are required. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching high school-aged students in a standards-based learning environment (SBL), have experience teaching 90-minute classes, and hold a master's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
As an independent school, we value community involvement and expect that the selected candidate will serve as a coach, and/or lead extracurricular programming beyond the classroom.

Job Summary:
St. Anne’s-Belfield School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Nurse Substitute to join our team, providing coverage on an as-needed basis across the Lower School and Upper School campuses. The School Nurse is responsible for executing the school health program, assisting with student well-being, and completing health-related tasks.
Standard work hours are 7:50 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Position Type: Temporary/Part-Time
Essential Duties:
- Assists sick or injured students and staff, performs routine and emergency first aid
- Calls parents of ill students; assists ill students as needed until parent arrives
- Administers medication to appropriate students, with parental permission and a doctor's order for prescription medication; keeps medication permission forms on file
- Informs administrators and school personnel about students with health issues in compliance with medical privacy regulations
- Maintains the school clinic; secures medications, including controlled substances, as required
- Performs medical procedures as prescribed by physician(s)
- Appropriately documents clinic services to students; enters health information in the student medical information system
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of current health issues as they relate to school-age children
- General knowledge of student behavior management practices, procedures, and techniques
- General knowledge of school system rules and procedures for classroom, halls, cafeteria, library and transportation
- Ability to guide, direct, teach, and counsel students
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability and skill to make physical, social and emotional assessments and plan and implement interventions requiring professional nursing knowledge and judgment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- CPR and First Aid certification required
Education and Experience:
Must hold a valid license to practice as an LPN or RN in Virginia and maintain current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Familiarity and confidence with basic keyboarding skills and medical record keeping are expected. Ideal candidates have a minimum of two years of experience as a school nurse.
Physical Conditions and Work Contacts:
Duties are typically performed in a school clinic and other school settings such as classrooms, gym, cafeteria, and recreational areas. Frequent movement throughout the school facilities is required. Occasional lifting of objects up to 40 pounds and students weighing 150 pounds may be necessary. Occasional exposure to potentially infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens is necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchair and other mechanical devices may be necessary.
