THE ROLE:

You will be a core member of Sotheby’s New York specialist departments, driving financial results, growth, and profitability for this key business area.  You will act as a business partner to the department specialists focused on P&L management and reporting (live and online auction and private sales), pipeline management, deal making, and sale execution.  You can think analytically, synthesize quantitative and qualitative information, and are excited by proactive problem solving.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the pipeline of business opportunities and deals to drive sales and accountability, in active collaboration with internal stakeholders.
• Lead, manage, and track all New York auction consignments; with oversight from senior Business Management where appropriate
• Support the development of financial models (revenue and expense) for auction consignments; approve/escalate where appropriate.
• Prepare client facing deal communication and take a client facing role for commercial terms, when required.
• Serve as the first business point of contact for negotiations for consignments, vendors, consultants, or other third parties, including corresponding legal agreements with Legal team; with oversight from senior Business Management where appropriate.
• Support annual budget planning and regular forecasting in partnership with senior Business Management.
• Translate financial results and KPIs into operational recommendations to optimize the business.
• Manage all sale and department expenses; with oversight from senior Business Management where appropriate.
• Regularly review and develop plans for Sotheby’s inventory, in partnership with Operations and Finance teams.
• Act in a client-facing capacity and as an internal conduit to troubleshoot escalated pre- and post- sale issues
• Work with Pre and Post sale on Sale settlement to maintain a high-level oversight, Extended Payments approval and accountability and billing for non-standard transactions.
• Act as a strategic partner for senior management by reviewing competitive analysis, maintaining market share reporting, and analyzing trends in deal making.
• Research potential additional revenue streams and partner with key internal stakeholders to develop business plans.
• Work collaboratively to propose, manage, and implement efficiencies, integration, and adoption for new IT and digital improvements aligned to overall responsibilities.

The expected hourly rate for this position ranges from $48/hour - $58/hour. Employees in this role may be expected to work overtime, and will receive additional pay at the applicable overtime rate. THE ROLE

 Oversee the accounting cycle and internal financial reporting for the Luxury Division, Private Sales, and Marketplace, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial results.

Provide subject matter expertise, guidance and support to financial analysts, business managers and department heads..

 RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting and Financial Reporting

• Lead the month end close and forecasting procedures, including monthly profit and loss statement analytics and balance sheet review, ensuring the accuracy of data and identification of trends and issues.
• Manage Senior / Financial Analysts for internal reporting, forecast and planning analysis, and provide subject matter expertise, guidance and leadership to ensure completion of all responsibilities; provide informal feedback throughout the year in addition to formal feedback during the annual review process.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly review schedules to support operational performance and business objectives.
• Collaborate with the Finance Director in the analysis and preparation of monthly senior management commentary, reports and quarterly corporate reports.
• Assist in the development of the annual financial and capital plans in conjunction with Business Managers and Department Heads.

Reconciliation and Control

• Responsibility for the coordination and review of entity level balance sheets.
• Review and enhance internal controls to ensure compliance with the company’s policies and procedures and ensure group compliance with audit procedures.
• Actively contribute to refining the accounting close and reporting process to optimize processes, reduce redundant activities, and ensure reporting is accurate, time efficient, and can provide meaningful analysis.
• Liaise with internal / external audit teams throughout the year

Other Duties

• Actively participate in Pigment roll-out and implementation, as needed (new Enterprise Performance Management tool)
• Special projects, as needed.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $110,000-$125,000. THE ROLE

As a Treasury Analyst within the Sotheby’s Treasury team, you will support the accounts receivable and treasury functions with detailed reporting and financial analysis.

The Treasury Analyst will prepare routine journal entries relating to accounts receivable and financing activities, as well as contribute to the preparation of balance sheet reconciliations for review.  Additionally, this role will support the daily treasury operations. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting, cash flows, and data management.

The ideal candidate can think analytically, autonomously, and has advanced Excel skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Daily incoming cash reconciliations, reporting and analysis of accounts receivable data, activity, roll forwards and ageing
• In conjunction with a third party, produce regular borrowing base reports for the review and approval
• Liaising with the accounts receivable team to support with cash application, invoicing requirements and cashflow movement
• Prepare and record monthly journal entries in relation to financing transactions
• Collate and consolidate client payment data to support cashflow management
• Responsibility for some treasury month end tasks like FX rates report, market data feeds, bank reconciliations
• Support the treasury manager on the multiple corporate cards’ programs
• Support daily treasury operations around intra-group funding and payment release
• Make recommendations for process improvements, automation, reporting and analysis
• Support audit activities and help ensure timely delivery of required documentation

THE ROLE

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the Company’s accounting policy function:
  • Identify, analyze, summary, document and conclude on the Company’s complex transactions from an accounting perspective, and communicate results to relevant stakeholders (including but not limited to, financings/debt, leases, revenue, investments, consolidations and other complex/non-standard transactions) from both a US GAAP and IFRS perspective;
  • Monitor and evaluate new FASB accounting standards and lead implementation efforts on all new standards including fully analyzing potential implications, documenting conclusions and working with finance to implement technically sound and operationally practical accounting guidance;
  • Maintain and keep current the Company’s accounting policies and policy library;
  • Provide company trainings to staff members on key accounting policy topics, including but not limited to, debt transactions, leases, revenue recognition, etc.;
  • Key technical accounting liaison to our RM Sotheby’s luxury automobiles subsidiary;

• Own various areas of the financial accounting, reporting and audit process, including, but not limited to:
  • Debt/financing transactions;
  • CECL calculations;
  • Debt issuance costs;
  • Asset recoverability assessments;
  • Purchase accounting/minority investments accounting;
  • Prepare and/or review various financial statement footnotes.
  • Lead the preparation of the quarterly unaudited and annual audited Property reports (including all financial statements and footnotes) for three or more legal entities, ensuring timely and quality preparation of all financial statements and audit requests;
• Enhance Sotheby’s internal control procedures, including, but not limited to:
  • Reviewing and/or preparing monthly reconciliations in Blackline;
  • Review reconciliations prepared by Finance to ensure consistency in preparation of reconciliations across similar accounts, and advise reconciliation preparer/reviewer of potential improvements required;
• Assist in review of the Sotheby’s cash flow statement process (individual and consolidated) and assist in efforts to make that process more efficient
• Act as a key Corporate Controller’s Group financial reporting liaison on the Company’s implementation of new Environment, Social and Governance (“ESG”) standards, including the new European Union CSRD rules and California ESG regulations (working knowledge of ESG concepts preferred but not required)

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required;
• 10+ years of accounting experience (minimum 5 years in public accounting, with experience outside of public is a plus);
• CPA required, active license;
• Strong knowledge of Financial Statement Reporting and US GAAP with a working knowledge of IFRS preferred
• Ability to stay knowledgeable about, research and reach well-reasoned conclusions on technical accounting issues and leverage Big 4 firm research tools;

THE ROLE

Within the Corporate Development team, we work across a broad set of strategic initiatives spanning investor relations, financial analysis, market and competitive mapping, growth strategy, capital allocation, and M&A sourcing and execution.

We are looking for a Manager to join the Corporate Development team who will primarily focus on supporting and helping scale our investor relations function, while also playing an active role in growth strategy initiatives and M&A execution. This role will work closely with the Head of Corporate Development on both external investor communications and internal strategic and transaction-related priorities.

The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex strategic and financial topics clearly to senior internal and external stakeholders. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Partner closely with the Head of Corporate Development to help shape and deliver the company’s strategic narrative to investors, including ownership and continuous refinement of core investor materials and value creation messaging
• Lead the analytical and content development aspects of the investor relations workstream, including preparation of shareholder communications, performance updates, and value creation analyses
• Build and maintain high-quality financial models and analyses to support strategic decision-making and investor communication, including value creation analysis, returns on invested capital, and pro forma impacts to Sotheby’s P&L and long-range plan
• Develop deep expertise in Sotheby’s business model, operating drivers, and financials in order to communicate complex topics clearly and credibly to investors and internal senior stakeholders
