The role

As a Senior Manager, Government Affairs, you'll be a key external leader on our Policy and Government Affairs team. You will be responsible for shaping and executing SoFi's government relations strategy, directly advocating for our priorities with policymakers, and managing a portfolio of relationships with key external organizations. You will work closely with our Senior Manager, Public Policy, who will provide internal policy support and analysis, ensuring our advocacy is well-informed and strategic for the benefits of our members. This role reports to the Director, Policy and Government Affairs.

What you'll do

Direct Advocacy & Government Relations: Serve as SoFi's primary representative leading direct engagement with the U.S. Congress, the Administration, and key staff. This role requires developing and executing sophisticated, targeted advocacy strategies to proactively educate policymakers on SoFi's policy views and legislative priorities.

External Portfolio Management: Act as a liaison and relationship manager on advocacy, overseeing an engagement portfolio that includes key trade associations, think tanks, and consumer advocacy organizations, driving coalition efforts to advance the policy agenda.

External Representation: Serve as a spokesperson for SoFi at legislative and policy-focused events, forums, and conferences. Proactively seek opportunities to promote SoFi’s thought leadership and advocacy goals for the team and our business executives.

Strategic & Political Advisory: Provide high-level, strategic advice and insights to the Policy and Government Affairs team and business teams on the political landscape and legislative developments. This includes summarizing engagements and learnings for internal dissemination and advising the team on political and legislative activities to inform overall strategy.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of experience in government affairs, with a strong emphasis on direct lobbying and external relationship management. Ideally, this includes time at a U.S. government or congressional office and within a fintech, payments, or financial services company's government affairs team.
• Proven expertise in political and government affairs tactics and strategies, with a deep network of relationships in Washington D.C. and/or key state capitals.
• Demonstrated experience in administering and ensuring compliance for political giving as well as federal lobbying disclosure requirements.  
• Deep working knowledge of fintech and/or financial services, especially in rapidly scaling environments.
• Adept at identifying complex legislative issues and translating them into actionable, external-facing advocacy strategies.
• Exceptional communication, writing, and presentation skills, with a track record of effective public speaking and relationship building.
• Proven ability to build and foster strong relationships as a natural connector and self-starter.
• Advanced degree (Law, Public Policy, Political Management, Legislative Affairs, Political Science, or related field) preferred.

Position Summary

We’re looking for an entrepreneurial communications pro to support SoFi’s wide-ranging efforts across crypto, digital assets, and financial technology. The [Senior] Manager, Communications will drive programs that raise awareness for and deepen trust in SoFi’s products that serve consumers and businesses alike. 

More than just “crypto PR,” this role is a perfect fit for someone who loves rolling up their sleeves with product and business teams, demystifying complex topics for people and businesses who are new to crypto, collaborating with companies that partner with SoFi, and finding creative ways to break through the noise – all in the same week.

Key Responsibilities

Build programs that drive awareness of SoFi’s crypto products and services: Conceive and execute communications campaigns that engage a wide range of media, influencers, analysts, and other influential audiences surrounding SoFi’s expanding crypto product offeringsSupport distribution of SoFi crypto offerings through enterprise partnerships: Collaborate with SoFi partners and clients to facilitate the adoption of our crypto services and digital asset infrastructureCraft messaging and other assets that engage both crypto-curious and crypto-native audiences: Develop communications materials that educate and inspire audiences to action, reflecting deep empathy for the varying levels of understanding of – and confidence in – digital assets

• Navigate a fast-moving media environment: Maintain an extensive, up-to-date knowledge of the media ecosystem and how to maximize investments across owned, earned, and paid
• Serve as a trusted advisor: Support business, product, and marketing leaders as SoFi with insights and recommendations on communication strategies and risk mitigation

Drive measurement and optimization: Track performance metrics and gather feedback to continuously improve our team’s impactHarness technology to extend our impact: Ensure we maximize the value of existing AI tools and evaluate new ones to expand our impact

Qualifications

• 7+ years of diverse communications experience, with strong preference given to candidates who have worked in crypto-native and traditional finance settings
• Excellent messaging development, writing, presentation, and project management skills
• Proven track record of generating earned media and enhancing brand reach in crowded environments
• Strong relationships with relevant reporters, podcasters, influencers, editors, and/or producers
• Strong understanding of data and analytics in communications, from storytelling to impact measurement
• Experience in working within complex, matrixed organizations and managing cross-functional teams
• Bachelor’s degree

The Director, Internal Communications will lead our internal comms team and partner closely with executives and a wide range of business unit and functional leaders to inform, inspire, and connect employees across our global organization. As a leader on our Communications & Policy team, you’ll play a key role in helping SoFi successfully navigate its next chapter of growth through even stronger employee engagement and a world-class culture. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive core company-wide internal communications programs: Direct and identify opportunities to optimize company-wide communications programs including: hands meetings, product roadmap reviews, annual priority setting, and product/initiative launches
• Provide strategic counsel and hands-on support for critical initiatives:  Advise leaders and orchestrate employee engagement surrounding high stakes moments, including organizational changes, leadership transitions, corporate integrations, and more
• Identify opportunities to strengthen employee engagement and culture: Partner with our People team and other leaders to champion our culture, diagnose opportunities to improve engagement, and bring fresh perspectives that inform and inspire our employees
• Champion communications best practices that enable organizational agility and alignment: Advocate for excellence across employee-facing communications and ensure our content is compelling and actionable
• Refine measurement and optimization capabilities:  Track engagement metrics and gather feedback to continuously improve our team’s impact
• Harness technology to extend our impact: Ensure we maximize the value of existing tools, whether it’s a channel like Slack or Zoom, or generative AI methods like ChatGPT, and evaluate new ones as needed

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in internal communications, with strong preference given to candidates who have worked in technology or product-driven financial services companies
• Strong portfolio of creative, visually engaging internal communications content
• Demonstrated record of successfully navigating large-scale organizational changes, leadership transitions, employee engagement initiatives, and corporate integrations
• Strong business acumen and ability to translate complex or abstract concepts into engaging, creative communications that break through with employees
• Comfortable operating under fast-changing, competing, or abstract priorities, often in direct partnership with company executives
• Skilled at navigating complex, matrixed organizations
