Why This Role Matters
As a vital member of our Product & Tech Team, you will utilise your expertise to work within our ecosystem of applications, services and infrastructure using a combination of C#, Angular, Typescript, T-SQL and harness the multitude of services offered by AWS including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SES and SQS.
You’ll work with an AI-augmented engineering environment, leveraging agentic workflows, LLM-powered tools, and automation to accelerate development and expand product capabilities. We place a strong emphasis on deep technical understanding and ownership. You’re expected to understand, validate and take responsibility for what AI produces. In this role, you’ll also design and build AI-powered features and systems that deliver smarter, more adaptive user experiences.
Like all Engineering roles at ROLLER, this position follows a hybrid work model - 3 days per week in our office located in the Sydney CBD, with flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week. Many of our Engineers also choose to spend additional time in the office to collaborate and connect with the team in person.
What You'll Do
You will build elegant solutions with code to solve problems and contribute directly to the success of our customers by:
- Designing, building and maintaining secure, scalable, production-grade software across the stack.
- Leading integration-heavy initiatives (APIs, third party providers, complex workflows), including defining contracts, handling edge cases, and building robust failure models.
- Owning technical quality end-to-end: testing strategy, observability, performance, reliability, rollout safety, and incident response for your areas.
- Driving pragmatic engineering execution: breaking down ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables with a bias toward shipping and learning.
- Promoting quality through software craftsmanship, agile best practices, and continuous delivery/deployment techniques.
- You have hands-on experience using AI in coding/programming to drive greater impact.
About You
- Strong experience building and shipping full-stack software in a modern SaaS environment.
- Experience with C# .NET (web APIs) and designing/consuming APIs in distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in software development.
- Exposure to integration work: third-party systems, payments-like workflows, compliance/regulatory domains, or similarly complex ecosystems.
- Solid front-end fundamentals (Angular/TypeScript experience).
- Comfortable with SQL and data modelling.
- Strong engineering craft: clean design, testing, debugging, security mindset, and reliability.
- Curious, collaborative, and comfortable working with teammates distributed across time zones.

As a Platform Tech Lead at ROLLER, you will play a key role in guiding engineers within our Platform squad, partnering closely with the Product Manager and Designer as part of the Product Trio to deliver high-quality, scalable platform capabilities that enable engineers across the company.
In this role, you will combine strong technical leadership with hands-on engineering, contributing directly to the codebase while helping shape the technical direction of the platform. The Platform team focuses on building the foundations that empower product teams, improve developer velocity, and unlock impact across the entire engineering organisation. This includes driving modern engineering practices and exploring opportunities to leverage AI and automation to enhance how we build and operate software.
You’ll support and mentor engineers on your team, fostering strong engineering practices while ensuring we deliver reliable, scalable systems. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, enabling other engineers to move faster, and raising the bar for engineering excellence.

What You'll Do
- Lead and Coach: Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to the engineers in your squad, ensuring they grow and succeed in their roles.
- Own Squad Delivery: Collaborate within the Trio to prioritise work, manage technical scope, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery of product outcomes.
- Be Hands-On: Actively contribute to the codebase, designing, building, reviewing, and deploying features, primarily using C#, T-SQL/SQL Server, and AWS.
- Champion Engineering Excellence: Promote engineering best practices, including test-driven development, CI/CD, and system observability.
- Foster Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Design, Product, and other squads, to deliver customer-focused solutions.
About You
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, including time spent in a leadership or mentorship capacity.
- Strong experience with C# .NET / Web API, SQL Server, and T-SQL optimisation.
- Solid understanding of modern software architecture and designing for scalability and high availability.
- Confident working with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, and SQS.
- Comfortable managing CI/CD pipelines and promoting DevOps culture and practices.
- Experienced in leading or coaching a team in an agile environment, ideally within a Trio setup.
- You are people-focused: skilled at building rapport, giving feedback, and growing others through coaching and support.
- Passionate about quality, security, and performance in software systems.
- A clear communicator who thrives on collaboration and transparency.

About the Role

This role is based in Melbourne and offers a hybrid work approach, with 3 days per week in our South Melbourne office.

You will build elegant solutions with code to solve problems primarily focused on our APIs, Payments and Integration Services, Reporting Data Platform and contribute directly to the success of our customers by:
- Designing, building and maintaining secure, scalable software

About You
- Proficient in software engineering practices with 3+ years of experience

- Fluent with C# .Net 6+ / Web API
- Experienced with SQL Server, modern ORMS, and optimising TSQL
- Familiar with continuous delivery and automated deployments (CI/CD)
- Proficient with AWS or other cloud platforms such as Azure or Google Cloud Platform
- Knowledgable in modern, cloud-based architecture, and skilled in enhancing their speed, scalability, security, and fault tolerance
