We’re looking for a Staff Engineer - User Experience (Backend) to join our Patient Platform team and shape the systems that power patient-facing experiences across our health technology platform. This team owns the APIs, orchestration services, and communication infrastructure that enable secure, reliable interactions between patients and our platform (Email, SMS, notifications).
We are at a critical stage of growth, scaling our platform, modernizing legacy services, and strengthening our event-driven architecture to support increasing patient volume and communication complexity. This role will play a central part in defining how our backend systems evolve as we scale.
As a Staff Engineer - User Experience (Backend), you will be the technical authority for the Patient Platform domain, translating architectural strategy into scalable, production-ready distributed systems in partnership with cross-functional teams. You will drive the evolution of our API-first architecture (including BFF and orchestration patterns), define and enforce API contracts, and modernize tightly coupled services into scalable, event-driven components.
This is an opportunity for a senior technical leader who thrives in ambiguity, moves pragmatically, and enjoys balancing hands-on engineering with architectural influence.
You will strengthen reliability, observability, and fault tolerance across distributed systems, scale and harden our patient communication platform (Email, SMS, notifications), and design secure systems handling sensitive patient and identity data in regulated environments. What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of backend engineering experience, including platform or high-scale distributed systems
- Strong experience in Python (FastAPI, Flask) or similar modern backend frameworks
- Deep expertise designing event-driven architectures in AWS (EventBridge, SQS/SNS, Lambda, ECS)
- Experience building and operating async task processing systems (e.g., Celery or similar)
- Proven ability to define and govern REST and/or GraphQL APIs at scale
- Strong understanding of service boundaries, microservices, and async service-to-service communication
- Experience designing highly observable systems (metrics, tracing, alerting — e.g., Datadog or similar)
- Experience implementing secure authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT, service-to-service security)

You will be a key contributor to our online booking platform—a critical, revenue-driving application that guides customers through scan selection, scheduling, and payment. The PACS Program Administrator is both an experienced technical operator and program owner, responsible for ensuring that Prenuvo’s imaging systems directly support radiologist performance, diagnostic quality, and patient care delivery.
This role owns the operational integrity, optimization, and clinical alignment of PACS and associated imaging workflows across a distributed, multi-site environment. The PACS Administrator serves as the structured liaison between Radiology, Clinical Operations, and Clinical Engineering — ensuring that imaging systems are not only technically functional, but clinically optimized.
This position resides in the Product & Tech function, with dotted-line governance in the Clinical organization because PACS configuration, workflow design, and data integrity directly impact diagnostic accuracy, report turnaround time, patient safety, and radiologist efficiency.

What You’ll Do
- Clinical Workflow Ownership & Optimization
- Serve as the primary PACS contact for radiologists and MRI technologists.
- Configure and maintain worklists, hanging protocols, user roles, and image routing to optimize diagnostic workflows.
- Translate radiologist workflow needs into actionable system configurations.
- Continuously evaluate workflow performance and recommend enhancements that improve efficiency and quality.
- Support onboarding of new radiologists, scanners, and imaging sites to ensure seamless clinical integration.
- Imaging System Operations & Reliability
- Oversee day-to-day PACS functionality to ensure high availability and uninterrupted clinical operations.

The PACS Program Administrator is both an experienced technical operator and program owner, responsible for ensuring that Prenuvo’s imaging systems directly support radiologist performance, diagnostic quality, and patient care delivery.

- Clinical Workflow Ownership & Optimization
- Serve as the primary PACS contact for radiologists and MRI technologists.

What You’ll Do
- Respond to submitted requests through our ticketing system and via direct message, providing technical support for our clinical applications
- Coordinate with other teams on Slack to troubleshoot issues, triaging by severity and driving toward resolution within SLA targets
- Respond to incidents -- gathering information, troubleshooting, and helping guide them to resolution alongside engineering teams
- Update status pages during escalations and write postmortems summarizing root cause, impact, and follow-up actions
- Create knowledge base articles, runbooks, and canned responses with clear, repeatable steps in Confluence
- Perform deep troubleshooting using past experience, internal tools, and observability platforms such as Datadog and Sentry -- investigating down to the code level where needed
- Translate complex technical findings into clear updates for non-technical stakeholders including clinical and operational teams
- Identify trends in recurring incidents and surface patterns to engineering and product teams to drive systemic improvements
- Build tools and scripts to support our teams, improving development and operational efficiency
- Operate within our Quality System, creating and updating records that support our regulated Medical Devices
- Exercise strong judgment on privacy-sensitive cases including entangled patient profiles, merge requests, and data integrity issues
What You’ll Bring
- 3–5 years of experience in technical support, escalation engineering, or a related role involving hands-on troubleshooting of production systems
- Demonstrated software development experience (e.g., Python, TypeScript, NodeJS, React)
- A proactive mindset that persistently hunts down root causes and implements durable solutions rather than applying one-off fixes
- Hands-on experience with observability tools (Datadog, Sentry, New Relic, or similar) and ticket management in Jira
- Experience with incident management processes, including acting as incident commander or on-call responder
- Experience debugging web applications using browser developer tools and tracing issues across the full stack
- Ability to troubleshoot APIs, reproduce issues, and write clear defect reports for engineering teams
- Calm under pressure with strong prioritization skills -- comfortable managing competing urgent requests simultaneously
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in remote/async environments and translate technical issues for non-technical audiences
- An excitement to learn new skills and technologies on the job
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, equivalent experience, or evidence of exceptional ability
Nice To Have
- Experience in safety-critical environments, medical technology, or HIPAA/privacy-sensitive environments
- Familiarity with MRI imaging workflows, DICOM, or clinical application support
- Background in SRE practices: monitoring, alerting, runbook automation
- Familiarity with Auth0 or AWS infrastructure
- Experience with SQL and database troubleshooting
