What you’ll be doing:
You’ll own the hands-on build, management and optimisation of lifecycle and transactional customer communications, primarily via email, with oversight of print communications and future expansion into channels as new comms opportunities arise. You’ll become Policy Expert’s go-to expert on our CRM platform Bloomreach.
The role is responsible for executing and continuously improving CRM activity to drive engagement, acquisition, retention, and in-life commercial performance, while ensuring communications are clear, accurate, and compliant. This role works hand-in-hand with the Customer Comms Manager and Lead who will plan what communications are needed across customer journeys and what messages and actions they deliver.
You’ll be ensuring that our CRM foundations are robust and continuously improved, including:
- Own and operate the Bloomreach platform, improving how it is used and ensuring best practice.
- Manage CRM processes, documentation, and supplier relationships to ensure scalable and efficient delivery.
- Manage and maintain customer data integrity, permissions (GDPR compliant), and cross-functional activity to develop new data and targeting opportunities.
Who are you:
You’re a hands-on CRM specialist who enjoys building and optimising campaigns and takes pride in getting the detail right. You’re comfortable working independently, managing technical setups, and using data and analysis to continuously improve performance.
You have strong experience with CRM platforms (ideally Bloomreach or similar), understand segmentation, personalisation, and testing, and are confident working with customer data in a compliant way. With this, you’re comfortable taking full accountability for platform setup, data hygiene, and campaign build quality, ensuring communications are accurate, effective, and delivered to a high standard.
You’re commercially minded, always looking for ways to improve engagement and retention, but you also care about creating clear, effective customer communications that support a good overall experience.

What you’ll be doing:
We are looking for a highly commercial, analytically strong Retention Commercial Manager to take full ownership of our retention strategy and deliver a step change in performance. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives on autonomy, is comfortable setting their own agenda, and is motivated by creating tangible commercial impact.
You will define the roadmap, lead data-driven decision making, and work cross-functionally to improve customer retention, lifetime value, and overall customer experience across our UK insurance portfolio.
Own the Retention Strategy & Roadmap
- Set and deliver the end-to-end retention strategy, ensuring it aligns with commercial, pricing and customer goals.
- Define the retention improvement roadmap and take accountability for execution and measurable performance uplift.
- Proactively identify commercial opportunities to enhance retention, profitability, and customer lifetime value.
Deliver Data-Driven Insight & Performance Leadership
- Monitor, analyse and explain retention performance, customer behaviour and market trends.
- Build deep insight using internal and external data sources to identify opportunities, diagnose issues and steer action.
- Lead trading/retention performance discussions, presenting clear, insight-driven recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Shape the Customer Experience
- Optimise the renewal journey across digital, documentation, comms and operational processes.
- Partner with Pricing, Operations, Propositions, Risk and other teams to test, develop and launch initiatives that improve renewal outcomes.
Drive Commercial Impact
- Use data and commercial instinct to make confident decisions in ambiguous or fast-changing conditions.
- Support the development of price tests, customer interventions and targeted trading actions.
- Ensure initiatives deliver against KPIs including retention rate, loss ratio, risk mix and customer lifetime value.
Cross-Functional Influence & Leadership
- Act as the business’ subject matter expert for customer retention.
- Bring stakeholders together to align on performance, priorities and actions.
- Communicate complex insight in simple, compelling language to senior leaders.
Who are you:
- Proven experience improving customer retention performance, ideally within UK general insurance.
- Highly numerate with strong analytical capability—comfortable working with large datasets, MI, and complex commercial drivers.
- Ability to derive insight quickly and translate data into actionable initiatives.
- Comfortable working independently, setting your own agenda, and leading delivery without close direction.
- Natural curiosity and a proactive approach to uncovering new insight or opportunities.
- Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.
- Commercial instinct to make impactful decisions in uncertain or dynamic trading environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge, influence and gain buy-in at senior levels.

Your day to day:

The job holder will also support with commercial changes in between optimisation cycles, working closely with Retail & Marketing and other cross functional teams.
- Identify day to day pricing changes between optimisation cycles to meet sales targets.

What you’ll be doing:
You will play a key role in the profitable growth of Policy Expert’s motor portfolio by utilising your knowledge and experience, allied with internal and external data, to identify opportunities and mitigate threats.
Key Accountabilities
- Significant input into the personal motor risk selection criteria

- Fluency with data analysis tools such as PowerBI and Excel, and familiarity with Pricing tools such as Radar
- Strong communication and influencing skills – comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders
- Team player, but with the initiative to work alone on projects as required
- Excellent numeracy & literacy skills
