Position Summary:
ParetoHealth is seeking a Director of Risk Strategy to lead the evolution of our captive-based stop-loss solutions and drive innovation across our risk-sharing model. This role is responsible for defining product vision, advancing innovation, and aligning cross-functional teams to deliver competitive, data-driven solutions for self-funded employers.
As a strategic leader, you will shape and execute initiatives that strengthen Pareto’s differentiated approach. This will include assessing alternative risk structures, managing and evolving our overall suite of protections, identifying market pain points, and developing solutions to address those needs.
The ideal candidate brings strategic thinking, creativity, strong analytical acumen, and a demonstrated ability to translate market and customer insights into impactful product strategies. Additionally, strong communication and collaboration capabilities are required to drive alignment across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Vision
- Define and own the risk product strategy for Pareto’s captive and stop-loss portfolio
- Assess alternative risk structures and determine whether/how Pareto should evolve captive structures, contribution models, and risk corridors to optimize performance and member experience
- Identify market pain points and associated opportunities through broker feedback, claims analysis, regulatory insights, and assessment of the competitive landscape
- Develop and prioritize a roadmap to expand/manage a suite of protections for captive Members aligned with company growth objectives and risk appetite
Market & Competitive Intelligence
- Understand industry trends, including cost drivers, network strategies, and alternative funding models
- Evaluate alternative product designs, pricing approaches, and underwriting methodologies
- Partner with sales and marketing to capture voice-of-customer insights from brokers, consultants, and employer groups
- Understand risk/ product management capabilities at carriers and TPAs in detail to identify gaps and opportunities
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Drive alignment on product priorities and ensure effective execution of key initiatives across underwriting, product, and technology
- Support go-to-market efforts in partnership with Product, Sales, and Marketing, including messaging and sales enablement
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of top-tier consulting experience
- 3-5 years in Product Management or Strategy in insurance (e.g., carrier, broker, MGU)
- Strong nose for value with ability to translate market pain points into solutions; creative, innovative mindset
- Data-driven with strong analytical and financial acumen
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in a complex, matrixed environment; superior communication skills
Preferred:
- Deep understanding of risk-sharing structures and stop-loss mechanics
- Experience with captive programs, alternative risk arrangements, or level-funded products
- Experience working with mid-market employers (50–1,000 lives)
- Exposure to clinical programs, cost containment vendors, and population health strategies
- MBA or advanced degree

Position Summary:
ParetoHealth is seeking a highly analytical and business-oriented Underwriting Analytics Lead to support underwriting, pricing, and strategic decision-making. This role is responsible for transforming raw, imperfect data into actionable insights and owning the underwriting reporting ecosystem.
In this role, you will operate at the intersection of data, underwriting, and strategy—balancing structured recurring work with ambiguous, high-impact analytical problem solving. You will partner cross-functionally with Underwriting, Finance, and Leadership to deliver insights that directly influence business outcomes.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment, is comfortable working with imperfect data, and can move quickly from question to insight.
Key Responsibilities:
Analytics & Insights
- Conduct deep-dive, diagnostic analyses to understand trends, performance drivers, and anomalies in underwriting and portfolio performance
- Translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical approaches and clear conclusions
- Develop hypotheses, test them with data, and clearly communicate “why” behind outcomes
- Support strategic initiatives (e.g., QBRs, leadership presentations) with high-quality analysis and storytelling
Dashboard & Reporting Ownership
- Own the development, maintenance, and evolution of underwriting dashboards and reporting tools
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability of core reporting assets
- Proactively identify gaps in reporting and define a forward-looking dashboard strategy (what should exist, who needs access, etc.)
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure reporting meets business needs and drives decision-making
Business Partnership
- Develop a strong understanding of underwriting, pricing, and insurance dynamics (especially medical stop loss)
- Frame analyses in the context of business problems and decisions—not just data outputs
- Provide clear, actionable recommendations that influence underwriting and strategic direction
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to refine questions and align on solutions
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Business, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field
- 5-7+ years of experience in analytics, data, or a related role (experience in insurance, healthcare, or financial services preferred)
- Strong SQL skills and ability to independently extract and manipulate raw data
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Tableau (or similar BI tools)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, hypothesis-driven approach
- Experience working with imperfect or messy datasets (e.g., missing values, inconsistent coding)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear insights
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in healthcare, insurance, or medical stop loss
- Exposure to actuarial concepts or pricing/underwriting processes
- Experience using Python for data analysis or transformation
- Experience building dashboards or reporting tools used by business stakeholders

The Sr. Clinical Risk Consultant plays a critical role in supporting stop loss underwriting by providing clinical expertise, risk assessment, and cost projections for high-cost claimants and emerging risks. This role partners closely with underwriting to evaluate medical conditions, treatment plans, and potential financial exposure, enabling informed underwriting decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Risk Assessment
- Review medical records, diagnoses, and treatment plans for individuals and groups with high-cost or complex conditions
- Assess severity, prognosis, and likely progression of illnesses or injuries
- Identify potential high-risk cases, including transplant, oncology, neonatal, and chronic conditions
- Cost Projection & Financial Modeling Support
- Develop evidence-based cost projections for ongoing and future treatment
- Evaluate treatment pathways, including standard of care and emerging therapies
- Estimate timing and magnitude of claims exposure for underwriting purposes
- Underwriting Collaboration
- Partner with underwriters to provide clinical insight on risk selection, pricing, and policy terms
- Support new business and renewal underwriting with case-specific analysis
- Assist in determining appropriate laser levels, exclusions, or coverage strategies
- Treatment & Utilization Review
- Analyze appropriateness of care, site of service, and utilization patterns
- Identify opportunities for cost containment or alternative treatment strategies
- Monitor large claims and ongoing cases for changes in risk or cost trajectory
- Data Interpretation & Reporting
- Translate complex clinical information into clear, actionable summaries for non-clinical stakeholders
- Document findings, assumptions, and rationale for cost projections
- Contribute to reporting on high-cost risks and emerging clinical trends
- Market & Clinical Knowledge
- Stay current on medical advancements, specialty drugs, gene therapies, and high-cost treatments

Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education & Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Experience
- 5+ years of clinical experience (e.g., ICU, oncology, case management, or utilization review)
- Experience in stop loss, health insurance, underwriting support, or large claims review strongly preferred
- Familiarity with high-cost conditions (e.g., transplants, cancer, NICU, specialty pharmacy)
