The Role

The Pantheon Developer Experience Team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, focused on improving the core software that our customers use to deploy code and interact with our platform. In this role, you will enhance Pantheon’s ability to integrate with Github, Gitlab and other external VCS providers, ensuring our platform delivers top-tier performance, stability, and user experience for developers and content creators. The Role

We are seeking a passionate, driven, and experienced application security engineer to join our growing team.  The Security Engineer is a key strategic and technical role within the Application Security team.

• Security by Design: Implement “Security by Design” within agile software development and cloud-native environments.

• Cloud Proficiency: Extensive experience securing production systems in Cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Coding Proficiency: Ability to build maintainable components in Go or Python.
• CI/CD Fundamentals: Hands-on experience with jenkins/cloud pipelines/ circleci (bonus points for experience with reusable workflows).

• GCP Security Depth: Proven, hands-on experience designing and operating security controls in Google Cloud Platform at scale including IAM and Workload Identity Federation, VPC Service Controls, CMEK and Secret Manager, Binary Authorization, GKE hardening, and Security Command Center. Experience with AWS or Azure is a plus; GCP is the primary platform for this role.
• Development Practices: Deep, hands-on experience in Secure by Design development practices, including guiding Secure Architecture and System Design.
• Security Engineering Mindset: A builder first  demonstrated experience designing and shipping reusable security primitives (Terraform modules, policy libraries, pipeline integrations) that engineering teams adopt, not just policies that exist on paper.
• Cloud Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience writing production-grade, secure-by-default Terraform for GCP deployments including org policies, IAM bindings, VPC configurations, and GKE cluster hardening. Experience with GKE workload identity, node pool security, and admission controller configuration.
• Coding Proficiency: Ability to build maintainable components in Go or Python.
• CI/CD Fundamentals: Hands-on experience with Jenkins, Cloud Build, or CircleCI (bonus points for experience with reusable workflows).
• Tooling: Proven ability to build, select, and implement application security tools, and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Certifications: Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer certification strongly preferred. CISSP, CCSP, or CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist) are a plus.

The Role

The Role

Pantheon is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Internal Platform team — the group responsible for the tools, platforms, and practices that make Pantheon’s own engineers more effective. Experience

• Demonstrated ability to drive measurable improvements in developer productivity and satisfaction across a large engineering organization
• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar), and infrastructure-as-code practices

Technical Depth

• Strong understanding of developer productivity measurement — including DORA metrics, SPACE framework, flow metrics, and the ability to instrument, analyze, and act on engineering effectiveness data
• Hands-on experience with AI developer tooling (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) — including evaluating adoption, measuring impact on developer workflows, and governing responsible use at scale
• Proficiency with observability, platform telemetry, and developer experience analytics — integrating signals from Git, CI/CD, incident management, and AI tooling into coherent productivity insights
• Grounding in SRE and production engineering fundamentals — including SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction, and incident response — and an understanding of how reliability principles inform the design of resilient, operationally sound developer platforms

The Role

Pantheon is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Hosting Platform — the team responsible for the infrastructure powering 700,000+ websites and 17 billion monthly page views. You’ll work at the core of what makes Pantheon run: the systems that provision, serve, and scale sites across our Global CDN, Google Cloud infrastructure, and developer toolchain. 

We're looking for someone who has built or operated infrastructure at scale — at a CDN or edge provider, a developer platform, or a database-as-a-service company — and who brings AI-native instincts to the work: using AI tools to accelerate debugging, automate toil, and make better architectural decisions faster. What You Bring to the Table

Experience

• 10+ years of software development experience, with significant tenure building platform or infrastructure products
• 5+ years of experience designing and architecting large-scale distributed systems
• Proficiency with container orchestration (Kubernetes), web server technologies (NGINX, PHP, Node.js, or similar), and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Demonstrated ability to own and improve a production platform serving millions of concurrent users or requests
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or equivalent systems-oriented languages

Technical Depth

• Deep expertise in distributed systems design, large-scale service architecture, and cloud-native infrastructure (Pantheon runs on Google Cloud)
• Experience building or operating CDN, edge delivery, or networking-layer systems at scale — including caching strategies, cache invalidation, and edge performance optimization
• Strong understanding of multi-tenant hosting platforms — including the SLO definition, observability, and incident response required to operate them at scale for hundreds of thousands of customer sites
• Experience operating database systems as managed services — relational and non-relational — with appreciation for the operational complexity involved
• AI-native engineering practices — including fluency with AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) and a track record of integrating AI tools into engineering workflows, automation, and architectural decision-making

The Opportunity

Pantheon is seeking a visionary and hands-on Director of Engineering to lead the team building the next generation of web content infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to define the technical and organizational foundation of a zero-to-one product — a real-time, collaborative editing platform that is redefining how content teams create, manage, and publish on the modern web.

Content management has remained largely unchanged for two decades. Pantheon is uniquely positioned — with deep roots in the web platform, a global CDN, and a sophisticated branching model trusted by thousands of organizations — to build the collaborative content experience that the modern web actually deserves. This Director of Engineering will lead the team doing exactly that.

The Role

This role sits at the intersection of product leadership and technical execution. You will own the engineering organization for this product area: recruiting and developing engineers and engineering managers, setting the technical direction, and driving delivery from early-stage architecture through to a scaled, production platform. You will partner closely with product, design, and go-to-market to turn a compelling vision into a platform that developers and content teams love.

This is not a role for someone who prefers steady-state management. It is a role for a builder — someone energized by ambiguity, passionate about product craft, and capable of leading a high-performing team through the nonlinear work of inventing something new.

What You Need to Succeed 

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

• Define and execute the engineering strategy for the collaborative web platform, aligning technical investments with product milestones and long-term platform vision.
• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and engineering managers, establishing a culture of ownership, technical rigor, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with product and design leadership to translate vision into concrete engineering plans — breaking ambiguity into phased, deliverable roadmaps.
• Collaborate with executive leadership on resourcing strategy, headcount planning, and cross-functional dependencies.
• Represent engineering in go-to-market discussions, customer conversations, and partnership evaluations where technical credibility matters.

Technical Direction & Architecture

• Drive architectural decisions for the platform's core systems: real-time collaboration, branch-aware content state, API and integration layers, and visual editing infrastructure.
• Establish and champion engineering standards across the full stack — backend services, frontend systems, APIs, testing, observability, and deployment.
• Guide build-vs-buy decisions and technology selection with a clear framework for long-term scalability and developer experience.
• Maintain a strong technical point of view while remaining open to input — you will be a trusted thought partner for staff and principal engineers on the team.

Delivery & Operational Excellence

• Own end-to-end delivery accountability: planning, execution, quality, and iteration velocity across the team.
• Manage technical debt and modernization tradeoffs in a zero-to-one context where the right call is often to move fast — and occasionally to refactor deliberately.
• Establish the operational practices that will scale with the product: incident response, SLOs, deployment cadence, and on-call health.
• Drive recruiting and hiring for the team, in partnership with talent acquisition, ensuring a high bar for technical and cultural fit.

What You Bring to the Table

Experience & Technical Depth

• 12+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles managing teams of engineers and engineering managers.
• Proven track record of building and shipping products from early-stage through scale — ideally including at least one zero-to-one or platform-founding experience.
• Strong organizational builder: you have hired, developed, and retained excellent engineers, and you know what a high-performing team culture actually feels like.
• Experience leading full-stack product engineering teams, with genuine fluency in both frontend and backend concerns.
• Demonstrated ability to operate in a high-ambiguity environment — setting direction and maintaining team momentum without a complete map.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; Master's preferred.
• Deep understanding of modern web platform architecture: APIs, real-time data synchronization, cloud-native services, and component-based frontend systems.
• Fluency in cloud infrastructure and deployment (GCP, AWS, or Azure), container orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Enough frontend architecture depth to credibly engage with engineers building visual editing experiences, component systems, and browser-side state management.
• Experience with distributed systems design — especially in contexts involving collaborative state, branching models, or event-driven data flows.
• Familiarity with CMS, developer tooling, or web publishing platforms is a meaningful plus.

Soft Skills

• Executive-level communication: you can make the technical accessible to non-technical stakeholders, and the strategic accessible to engineers.
• Strong written communicator — you write clear design docs, decision memos, and team updates without requiring editing.
• Effective cross-functional partner who builds trust and alignment with product, design, sales, and customer success peers.

The US base salary range for this position in the United States is $216,000 - $270,000 USD per year. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. At Pantheon, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

The Role 

As the Engineering Manager for Site Experience, you will lead and manage a team of talented software engineers focused on developing and enhancing the core site performance and integrations of our platform from customers running Drupal, Wordpress, and Next.js. You are responsible for the team's performance, delivery, and growth within this functional area, defining and excelling on Engineering initiatives focused on outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Lead and Mentor: Guide the team through organizational changes, challenges, and uncertainties, maintaining productivity and morale. Drive the team's success with hands-on coaching, guidance, and troubleshooting, as you are passionate about mentoring and developing engineering talent.
• Execution and Delivery: Manage projects with shifting priorities and ensure the team adapts quickly to evolving organizational structures and processes to deliver high-quality work.
• Strategy and Vision: Understand the organization’s objectives and direction, aligning the team’s priorities accordingly. You will advocate for changes that benefit the team and the broader organization.
• Technical Guidance: Lead architecture discussions, review code, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to technical discussions to maintain a high bar for technical excellence.
• Collaboration: Contribute to team and organizational goals, working with immediate team members and cross-functional stakeholders (10-20 individuals) to ensure alignment.
• Direction: Provide clear direction to your team, translating high-level goals into actionable tasks, providing feedback, and ensuring everyone is aligned. You will have autonomy within your team's scope to decide how to allocate work and solve problems while aligning with the overall engineering strategy.
• Hiring: Own the hiring process for the team, including interviewing, closing candidates, and ensuring a diverse and high-performing team structure.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a solid foundation as an individual contributor demonstrating technical competence.
  • 1-3 years of direct people management experience, which could include leading small teams, mentoring juniors, or taking on tech lead responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects successfully, ideally working directly with customers or within an agency.
• Technical Acumen:
  • Direct experience building websites using Drupal, CMS, and/or Next.js, preferably with open source contributions.
  • Working knowledge of Python, Golang, or other modern programming languages.
  • A deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
  • A deep understanding of scalable cloud architectures and cloud technologies, including relational databases (e.g. MySQL, MariaDB, Cloud SQL) and application caches (e.g. Redis, Memcached).
• Communication: Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts effectively.
• Methodology: Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or other development methodologies.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

The Canadian base salary range for this position is 150,400 - 188,000 CAD per year. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
