Our Product R&D business is performing and growing strongly, which is why we are looking for a Staff Software Engineer with a strong focus on event-driven architectures to help scale On’s business to the next level.

As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development of data streaming for product data throughout its lifecycle. In addition to being hands-on, you will mentor team members, share your knowledge and expertise, and influence the technical direction of the organization.

You will be based in London (or within commutable distance) and are willing to be in the office two days per week. You will collaborate closely with teams in Zurich, Berlin, Ho Chi Minh and London, and work with Technology and Product Development departments across On’s global office locations.

Your Mission

• Drive the development of data streaming across our event-based architecture, using technologies such as Kafka and Node.js
• Own technical knowledge across multiple domains, retaining architectural context while providing guidance on data streaming standards, governance, and best practices across the ensuring effective application of organizational data streaming standards, governance, and best practices within team codebases and projects
• Be hands-on by writing and owning production code, setting a high quality bar through thoughtful PR reviews, debugging production issues, and continuously improving reliability, operability, and observability across data streaming pipelines
• Act as a technical mentor to engineers across multiple teams on event-driven architecture, streaming patterns and anti-patterns, schema design and evolution, and data contracts and ownership
• Influence the technical direction of the organization by collaborating with senior leadership, helping to establish well-designed and well-documented architectures, and bringing systems into production
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical solutions for data streaming and data governance, aligning with business goals and stakeholder needs

Your Story

• 5+ years of experience building and operating large scale event driven systems in production
• Extensive hands-on experience with Apache Kafka in production, including modeling data pipelines and applying streaming patterns and anti-patterns
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives, partnering with multiple stakeholders and teams, and providing technical direction to others
• Experience mentoring and coaching engineers, providing guidance and feedback to support growth and development
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to senior leaders, technical stakeholders, and cross-functional teams

Nice to have:
AI and Data engineering fundamentals and exposure to BigQuery. Previous experience in manufacturing lifecycle or production of physical goods, and exposure to Computer Vision or an interest in learning.

The Role

At On, our supply chain is the backbone of our global operation. We are looking for a visionary Lead Technical Product Manager to spearhead the next evolution of our supply chain by harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence and data.

In this leadership role, you will be the bridge between our complex operational challenges and cutting-edge data solutions. You will be responsible for identifying high-impact opportunities where data, AI and automation can revolutionize our planning, logistics, and decision-making processes. Your expertise will be in understanding the business, the data, and the possibilities of AI to define a compelling product vision and guide our AI, data and engineering teams to build solutions that deliver immense value.

As a Lead, you will also play a key role in mentoring other product managers and shaping the product culture within the team.

What You'll Do

• Own the Data & AI Product Vision: Develop and champion a clear product strategy and roadmap for Data & AI-driven initiatives within the supply chain domain.
• Identify Opportunities: Collaborate closely and build relationships with supply chain stakeholders to deeply understand their processes, data challenges, and automation pain points.
• Translate Problems into Solutions: Convert ambiguous business problems into well-defined product requirements, user stories, and specifications for our data science and engineering teams to drive measurable value.
• Prioritize for Impact: Create and manage a data-driven product backlog, prioritizing features and initiatives that deliver the highest value to the business.
• Define Success: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of your AI/data products, in partnership with analytics.
• Bridge the Gap: Serve as the primary liaison between business leaders, supply chain operators, data scientists, and engineers, ensuring alignment and clear communication across all teams.

What You'll Bring

• Leadership Experience: Proven experience as a Technical Product Manager, with a demonstrated history of leading significant products or initiatives from concept to launch.
• Supply Chain Acumen: Strong experience with supply chain data and a solid understanding of core supply chain principles (e.g., demand forecasting, inventory management, logistics).
• AI/Data Fluency: You have a basic familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts and, most importantly, a gift for translating business needs into data-driven solutions. You don't need to be an AI expert, but you must be adept at partnering with engineers and data scientists who are.
• Analytical mindset: You are able to creatively identify the right success metrics and analyses that will provide key insight into product functionality.
• Technical Aptitude: You are comfortable in a technical environment and capable of holding your own in discussions about data models, APIs, and system architecture.
• Strategic Problem-Solver: You excel at breaking down large, complex problems into actionable steps and have a strategic mindset to see the bigger picture.
• Exceptional Communication: You have an outstanding ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The role is ideal for someone who enjoys researching new challenges, appreciates a streamlined and supportive process, and has a passion for innovative solutions. While UK will be your main focus, you will also support other EMEA entities

Mission:

• Process and manage the end-to-end payroll cycle in the UK, Kenya and Nordics, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations:
• Preparation of payroll input for your external vendors, including regular pay, overtime, bonuses, benefit in kind and applicable deductions
• Reviewing the payroll drafts provided by the external vendors, ensuring payroll accuracy in alignment with local payroll regulations
• Managing different payroll schedules incl. Retail and ensuring timely salary payments and payslip distribution
• Delivering month-end payroll reports to the finance team, reconcile payroll accounts and resolve any discrepancies identified together with Finance
• Responsible for enrolling our team members into local benefits, such as pension and insurance schemes.Address payroll-related inquiries and issues from employees and the business in a timely and professional manner
• Collaborate with Talent and Finance teams to ensure seamless integration between payroll, HR & Finance systems
• Prepare by law mandatory payroll documents such as P45 and support with yearly PSA
• Own the country specific solution for data integration or data feed between On systems (Workday) and external payroll vendor
• Communication with authorities, pension and other statutory benefits providers in respective countries
• Collaboration with internal teams such as HR specialists, Business Partners and Total Rewards, to drive forward new initiatives.
• Design the payroll process in your respective countries in alignment with internal SOX controls, and contribute to the continuous optimization and automation of existing payroll process and systems
• Set up of payroll operations in new markets/entities, in collaboration with regional lead, local HR Specialist and other internal On teams 
• Conduct regular audits of payroll records to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Responsible for our ESS (equity) and fringe benefits reporting through payroll
• Ensure compliance with more complex employment setups, such as cross-border employment or relocation cases
• Eagerness to take over more payroll countries, as we open new markets.

Your story: 

• 4+ years work experience in payroll in the UK. Any other country is a plus.
• Experience in payroll for Retail population for any of the countries of scope is a huge plus
• Excellent operational, legislative and best practice payroll knowledge in UK
• Excellent stakeholder management, attention to detail, used to handling confidential data, and analytical approach
• Experience working with external payroll providers
• Excellent excel skills
• Fluency in English. Any other language is a plus
