The Press Secretary is a key driver of MoveOn’s media and profile-building strategy. The Press Secretary will bottom line day-to-day media needs for the organization, including designing  and implementing proactive and reactive media relations plans to attract positive earned media attention for the organization, its programs, members, and leaders. Our ideal candidate will be based in Washington DC, and should have several years of hands-on experience in earned media, hold relationships with national press, political creators and new media outlets, served as an on the record spokesperson, and have worked in a political campaign environment.  

Responsibilities 

• Seek and secure positive news media coverage for the organization, both by initiating opportunities, and implementing strategies, nationally and in target states.  
• Produce or assist in the creation of products for both media and external affairs audiences (press releases, background pieces, advisories, talking points, op-eds, press memos, slide decks, newsletters).   
• Coordinate, book and prepare external spokesperson for interviews and other public appearances.
• Proactively pitch journalists, new media outlets and bookers and respond to media inquiries.  
• Keep abreast of the news cycle to stay current on press opportunities and challenges.
• Design and implement media plans for priority program work.
• Work with program staff to support their media related requests, and offer guidance and capacity.
• Support development of messaging and talking points for emergent issues.
• Coordinate press events, or support the planning and implementation of coalition or member-led press events.
• Assist with profile-building strategies in support of our electoral, issue, and fundraising goals.
• Cultivate and maintain key relationships with national media, and manage press lists. 
• Monitor media clips and compile and distribute media reports and analysis.  
• Liaise with campaign, compliance, and leadership team members to review and coordinate content for a variety of press materials.  
• Report regularly on your accomplishments and departmental activity.

Required skills and experience:

• Have at least 4-5 years of media relations and strategic communications experience in a political, electoral, organizing, or progressive issue campaign environment;  
• Experience securing positive national press coverage and serving as an on-the-record spokesperson; 
• Possess a clear sense of the national political media landscape and hold relationships with journalists and new media outlets; 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong writing and copy editing skills;  
• Demonstrated experience with, and comfort in a rapid-response campaign environment; 
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, be flexible, organized, self-motivated, and adapt to rapidly changing political and news environments to achieve goals; 
• Takes initiative, is solution-oriented, and is comfortable wading into details and the big picture;   
• Proficiency in internet-based research, word processing, media monitoring tools, internal communications platforms like Slack, and e-mail programs;

The Temporary Program Manager will be responsible for producing programming for the volunteer network at MoveOn. You will be responsible for recruiting, engaging, retaining and inspiring members to take action, creating and facilitating programming and community spaces, and supporting the overall goals of our member driven, progressive campaigns. This role provides vital support to our volunteer network infrastructure and our 2026 election program.

Responsibilities:

People management  

• Directly manage the Volunteer Network Coordinator to nurture and expand the internal volunteer network infrastructure.
• Monitor and report out on volunteer network health metrics and guide interventions where needed.
• Identify gaps and risks in the community and partner with the Volunteer Network Director, Coordinator, and Organizing team members to address them.
• Ensure members engaging in the volunteer network are upholding community norms and best practices. 

Increase the organization’s capacity through community calls 

• Project manage and facilitate MoveOn’s monthly community calls, including launching and facilitating cross-org project meetings, and project coordination.
• Project manage and convene Volunteer Network-wide monthly calls.
• Work with the Volunteer Network Director and various program teams to identify call topics, develop objectives, create content, and facilitate. 
• Collaborate with relevant teams across the organization to make content across multiple platforms, such as Zoom and socials to make sure it’s accessible to more audiences.
• Work with Organizing team members to identify and create electoral content that informs and empowers people to take action. 
• Create and maintain volunteer-facing materials for members and staff
• Keep a pulse on member feedback and share with internal stakeholders so that the organization is learning from and appropriately responding to its membership.

• Nurture the Mobilizer community
• Create and operationalize a re-engagement strategy for the Mobilizer app, based on needs assessment
• Create a re-engagement strategy and visioning for the community on the Mobilizer app. 
• Collaborate with Program Dept to absorb new members into the Mobilizer community after moments of high energy and/ activation in our priority campaigns. Proactively collaborate with Program Dept teams to insert absorption flows into our election program and during high energy moments like No Kings to maximize how many action takers become Mobilizers and take regular action.
• Monitor, report out on, and propose interventions for the overall health of the national Mobilizer community.

Job Requirements:

• 2-3 years of experience in designing and implementing equitable and accessible programming, preferably in a not-for-profit environment. 
• A minimum of 1 year of management experience.
• Strong project management skills with experience leading complex, cross functional initiatives from planning through execution.
• Experience facilitator with experience leading large virtual spaces (e.g. Zoom calls, webinars, trainings, digital community spaces) and skilled in implementing and facilitating in-person and remote learning experiences.

As a member of MoveOn’s Organizing team, the Temporary Training Manager will work closely with the Volunteer Network Director and key staff to design, coordinate, and deliver member-facing trainings that prepare volunteers to effectively support election programs. The Training Manager is responsible for the delivery of equitable and inclusive training programs for MoveOn members and volunteers, therefore strengthening the work of the organization in the movement. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Project manage MoveOn’s 2026 electoral and skill-building training programs, including launching and facilitating cross-org project meetings, and project coordination. 
• Work with the Volunteer Network Director and various program teams to identify training needs, develop training objectives, create content, and facilitate training programs. 
• Collaborate with relevant teams across the organization to make training content across multiple platforms, such as Zoom, Instagram reels, TikTok videos, etc. to make sure it’s accessible to more audiences.
• Work with Organizing team members to identify and create electoral training programs based on a needs assessment initiated by the Training Manager.
• Ensure all training material meets MoveOn’s high standard of accessibility and general practices.  
• Maintain the catalogue of available resources and trainings for members. Scout for and collaborate with team members for training on skills that relate to campaigning and organizing for the library. Conduct program needs assessments and build catalogue based on assessment data. 
• Build upon a regular reporting system to keep the organization informed about programming including but not limited to the number of people trained, training topics, conversion rates, etc.

MoveOn is looking to hire a Distributed Organizer to join our innovative and dynamic organizing team as we build a distributed team of MoveOn member leaders who organize and host mobilizations in their own communities, leading up to the 2026 midterm elections. By adapting field tactics to make them engaging and effective at the national level, they will deepen leadership across the country and help MoveOn's election program build the base, turn action into power, and sustain that power beyond the election. This role is for candidates with experience in running successful distributed campaigns online and offline, who have an interest or experience in both electoral and advocacy organizing, and who have built volunteer groups that are making meaningful change. 

Responsibilities

• Recruit and onboard new leaders and develop their confidence and commitment in local organizing and hosting mobilizations  
• Develop scaled support structures for volunteers and build community by conducting community calls, office hours and other virtual events
• Alongside the Mobilization Director, develop and lead both advocacy and electoral mobilizations 
• Develop online materials such as toolkits, trainings, sign-up forms, emails, SMS campaigns, social media materials
• Participate in volunteer monthly calls, weekly staff calls, and hold regular 1:1’s with MoveOn members to build relationships and identify leaders.

The Donor Services Officer is pivotal in ensuring the organization's sustained financial success by overseeing and enhancing the donor experience. The Donor Services Officer is responsible for ensuring an excellent donor experience through accurate gift processing, timely acknowledgment, and responsive communication. This role plays a key part in maintaining donor trust and supporting fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee external donor services vendors, including phone and email contact centers, ensuring they enhance the donor experience and align with organizational values while meeting established KPIs.
• Supervise contact center operations through call monitoring, performance management, and continuous training; provide additional training support for internal teams and volunteers as needed.
• Develop, write, and regularly update scripts and training materials, including work instructions and scripting manuals for phone, email, and donor services-related web content, ensuring alignment with organizational voice and priorities.
• Oversee reporting and program performance by analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, refining key metrics, sharing insights with internal stakeholders, and recommending improvements to optimize donor experience, processes, and UX.
• Monitor donor and member feedback to identify trends and implement improvements in scripting, workflows, and supporter experience.

Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Chief of Staff is a force multiplier who grows MoveOn’s impact by enabling excellence at the highest levels of our organization and, by extension, across our entire operation.

Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership

• Support the Executive Director in setting organizational vision, strategy, and priorities; and manage the organization to achieve the organization’s mission.
• Lead the organization’s strategic and annual planning process.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Executive Department, including providing high-level support to the Executive Director and ensuring their portfolios and special projects are carried out successfully.
• Lead the Senior Management Team in driving performance, accountability, and excellence across the organization, ensuring that people, budget, processes, and programs are working in sync with one another. 
• Work with the Senior Management Team to ensure strong collaboration among departments, teams, and staff to drive our program and maximize our impact. 

Internal Communications:

• Create a clear and consistent strategy for internal communications across all channels that promotes employee understanding, collaboration, engagement, and alignment with organizational priorities. 
• Refine and maintain transparent internal communication processes, systems, and norms to ensure that staff have the information they need, including ways of providing feedback to leadership, to get their work done. 
• Organize convenings of and communications among senior leadership, cross-organizational bodies, and staff to ensure strong internal coordination and alignment. Surface questions and concerns, when necessary, and ensure the right makeup of cross-organizational bodies, with an eye toward equity and accessibility.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

• Support the achievement of our mission by monitoring and reporting the organization’s priorities and its progress toward goals. 
• Support organizational learning by ensuring consistent debrief session implementation and follow-up to learn from our work and the movement. 

Leadership and Staff Support:

• Work with the Managing Director of People and Chief Operating officer on organizational development interventions, including change management, culture-building, organizational and team building, and other interventions to engage staff.
• Create and support spaces and practices within the organization that improve collaboration, and move through roadblocks to achieve objectives. 
• Serve as a thought partner and sounding board to the Executive Director, other senior leaders, and a resource for all staff to voice ideas, suggestions, and/or concerns.
• Oversee the planning and implementation of in-person gatherings. 

Executive Director Support :

• Act as a surrogate for the ED both internally and externally as needed with key external stakeholders (e.g. partners, the press, donors, etc).
• Partner closely with the Executive Director and the Executive Assistant to the ED to ensure that the ED’s time and priorities are aligned. 
• Manage other special projects assigned by the Executive Director. 

What success in this role looks like:

• The Chief of Staff is a trusted, highly valued source of truth, calm, support, and direction across the organization. 
• Organizational processes, systems, and meetings, including in-person and online gatherings, are clearly defined, well-executed, and right-sized to organizational capacity and strategy.
• The Senior Management Team is a humming, vibrant, “first team” for all of its members - a place for connection, support, problem-solving, and driving toward our shared long-term vision. 
• Organizational decision-making is clear, driven by straightforward and transparent processes, and informed by appropriate and timely data and insight. 
• The executive director’s portfolio is organized, prioritized, and adapted to real-time changes in service of portfolio and organizational goals. 
• The executive director is supported and prepared for meetings and external engagements with an appropriate background, stakeholder engagement, and asks, as well as other strategic insights. And, in particular, internal staff are supported and prepared for meetings with the executive director. 
• The distance between the executive office and staff is made smaller, with the chief of staff supporting the executive director as a positive cultural presence throughout the organization – thoughtfully tuned in to important moments of team engagement for celebration, collaboration, and growth
• The executive assistant and other direct support staff for the executive director are supported and effectively deployed in service of organizational and portfolio goals and needs
• The executive director and chief of staff are in “mind meld” - the chief of staff is able to anticipate needs and understand ED perspective in order to best support and represent her as needed, including when she is on vacation. 
• There is a clear internal communication strategy that improves employee understanding, engagement, and alignment with organizational priorities by delivering clear, consistent, and timely internal communications across all channels. 

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 10 years of professional experience, including in an advocacy, campaigning, and/or electoral context.  
• A proven track record of setting, supporting, and leading teams or an organization in achieving priorities, and at least 2 years of experience as an executive in similar organizations.  
• Deep understanding of and commitment to organizational equity, experience managing to implement equitable practices and culture, and demonstrated track record of success in this area. 
• Strong systems thinking skills - someone who has a strong grasp of how to align people, budget, processes, and programs.
• Strong internal communication skills that drive organizational-wide understanding, engagement, and alignment. 
• Acts with high integrity, professionalism, low ego, and camaraderie.
• Significant experience working across an organization to achieve complex goals.
• Deep commitment to MoveOn’s vision, mission, values, and goals. 
• Strong people, project, and change management experience.
• Inclusive, consultative decision-maker with demonstrated commitment to listening to team members and changing course when needed based on feedback.
• Has a substantial and nuanced understanding of power as it relates to the United States political process and systems, as well as the progressive movement.
• Is an organized systems thinker who brings an organizational architecture lens. 
• Detail-oriented -- ability to get into the minutiae of the work to problem solve
• A relational manager with high emotional intelligence and experience in being emotionally supportive to staff during stressful or difficult periods
• Willingness to travel within the United States.

Location: Position may be based anywhere in the contiguous United States. May require travel.  

Classification, Salary and Benefits: At MoveOn, we commit to equity in our compensation philosophy and practices. We are committed to equal pay for equal work. To counter systemic compensation issues in this country and pay inequality, we have a nonnegotiable compensation practice. We utilize benchmarking and peer organization data to ensure we provide competitive nonprofit compensation and benefits. The annual salary for this position is $209,731.69. In addition to the base salary, we offer a monthly home office subsidy.  We also offer an internet and phone subsidy of $2,100 annually and a health and wellness subsidy of $900 annually. All of these cash benefits are added to your bimonthly paycheck. We offer strong medical, dental, and vision benefits, which are free to employees and children of employees (spouses or domestic partners can be added at a subsidized rate). We offer employer-paid premiums for life insurance; four weeks accrued paid vacation time per year, prorated for the period that you work; 18 weeks of paid parental leave (birth, adoption, foster care placement of a child), 10 days accrued paid sick time prorated for the period that you work; paid family medical leave; and 8 staff holidays and 6 floating holidays. We contribute 5% to your 401(k) after six months of employment. We also offer a $1000 in professional development budget each year for each staff member.
