Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a Staff Data Engineer (SDE-V) to lead the design, build, and operation of the core data infrastructure that underpins our identity platform. This engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the systems that move, process, and store data across the company.
In this role, you’ll own and operate key data infrastructure components — including event streaming platforms, relational databases, and batch processing systems — while driving automation and engineering best practices that improve data platform reliability and developer efficiency. You’ll partner closely with Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, and Compliance teams to ensure ID.me’s data ecosystem meets demanding operational, security, and regulatory requirements.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for a data infrastructure engineer who thrives at the intersection of distributed systems, platform engineering, and data operations.
This role is based out of our Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA offices and requires full-time in-office attendance.
Responsibilities
- Own and operate core data infrastructure, including event streaming, relational database, and batch processing platforms.
- Design and implement highly reliable, observable, and scalable data systems that enable real-time and batch data processing.
- Develop automation and guardrails for data governance, retention, and compliance, ensuring auditability and consistency across services.
- Partner with application, platform, and SRE teams to improve data access patterns, reliability SLAs, and recovery processes.
- Establish standards for data infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning, ensuring proactive issue detection.
- Drive operational excellence by improving resilience, reducing toil, and implementing self-healing or automated recovery mechanisms.
- Evolve and optimize data pipelines that support downstream analytics, identity verification, and machine learning systems.
- Evaluate, implement, and operate event-driven and batch data platforms such as Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, Dataflow, or Temporal.
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for production data systems, contributing to postmortems and platform improvements.
- Mentor engineers and advocate for reliability-focused engineering culture across teams.
- Data lake architecture — Design and build the data lake storage and compute topology (object storage, partitioning, lifecycle, tiering) to support batch and streaming workloads.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or distributed systems development.
- 6+ years of programming experience in one or more languages such as Go, Python, or Java, with emphasis on automation and data system integration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep expertise in building and operating data systems—including relational databases, streaming, and batch platforms—in production environments.
- Hands-on experience administering and optimizing PostgreSQL or other relational databases in the cloud (AWS RDS, CloudSQL, or AlloyDB).
- Solid understanding of reliability engineering principles, including observability, SLOs, capacity management, and operational readiness.
- Experience managing cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, or Helm.
- Experience operating event streaming platforms such as Kafka or Google Pub/Sub.
- Experience with batch and stream processing systems, including Dataflow, Temporal, or Airflow.
- Strong knowledge of data pipeline orchestration, change data capture, and schema management.
- Background in automation, incident response, and data platform observability.
- Familiarity with data governance and regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., FedRAMP, GDPR, NIST).
- Contributions to open-source data infrastructure projects or strong community engagement in the data reliability space.
- Passion for performance engineering, system design, and mentoring others to deliver operational excellence at scale.
- AI-assisted development — Demonstrable experience using AI developer tools (e.g., code generation, test generation, query synthesis) to accelerate platform automation while validating outputs through code review and tests.
- Data-aware LLM usage — Ability to safely use large language models for tasks such as SQL generation, data lineage summarization, and runbook drafting while ensuring no sensitive data is exposed to external models and all prompts and outputs are logged for audit.

Role Overview
We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join our Core Platform Engineering organization. The SRE team builds the automation, observability, and operational foundations that ensure ID.me’s services are reliable, scalable, and secure.
As an SRE, you will play a pivotal role in building the platform and governance processes required to safely scale, deploy, and operate a high volume of machine-generated applications and features. You will design and implement the automated guardrails that maintain our high standards for resilience and security in an AI-accelerated development environment. You’ll focus on infrastructure automation, observability, performance optimization, and incident response, partnering closely with Software Engineering teams to foster a culture of reliability and operational excellence.
This role is based out of our Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA offices and requires full-time in-office attendance, 5 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain automated reliability tooling, infrastructure as code, and observability systems that enhance uptime and service performance.
- Develop monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) to detect and remediate issues proactively.
- Implement automated architectural reviews and reliability guardrails for agent-developed applications to ensure machine-generated code meets long-term maintainability and performance standards.
- Partner with engineering teams to design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant systems that meet defined SLIs and SLOs.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and develop self-healing and auto-remediation mechanisms to minimize human intervention.
- Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts, performing post-incident reviews and driving systemic improvements.
- Improve the deployment and release process using CI/CD pipelines and progressive delivery techniques to ensure stability and safety.
- Champion observability, reliability, and operational readiness reviews as part of the development process.

Minimum Qualifications

- 3-5 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience managing and scaling services in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- 1+ years proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Go, Python, Ruby, JavaScript).
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks.

The Staff Site Reliability Engineer, Infrastructure role is building a high-scale infrastructure team responsible for owning environments with thousands of nodes. Candidates must have experience operating at this scale and leading infrastructure through significant transformation—especially moving from monoliths to scalable microservices and platform/API architectures.

Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Wallet – Authentication & Verification Experiences team. This team owns the core authentication and identity verification flows that millions of members rely on every day — from secure login and multi-factor authentication to passkeys, biometrics, and the end-to-end member experiences that establish trust and unlock access to government, healthcare, and commercial services.
As a Staff Engineer, you will be a technical anchor for one of ID.me’s most critical and high-scale engineering domains. You will drive architecture decisions, lead complex cross-team initiatives, and raise the bar for engineering quality, security, and reliability. You’ll collaborate closely with product, security, and platform teams to shape the next generation of authentication and verification experiences at ID.me.
This position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect & Lead Authentication Systems: Design and evolve scalable, secure, and resilient authentication experiences, including MFA, passkeys (FIDO2/WebAuthn), biometric flows, push notification authentication, and OAuth2/OIDC-based login systems that serve tens of millions of members daily at peak volume.
- Drive Verification Experience Excellence: Lead the technical design of end-to-end member-facing verification flows, including document-based identity proofing, face match, supervised verification, and trusted referee experiences — ensuring they meet NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 standards with minimal friction.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a technical anchor for the team — setting the standard for code quality, system design, and engineering best practices. Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, architectural guidance, and pairing.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Security, Platform, Identity Graph, Product, and Compliance teams to deliver cohesive features and integrations. Drive alignment on shared architectural decisions and multi-team initiatives that span authentication and identity verification.
- Reliability, Performance & Security: Own the availability and performance of authentication services at scale. Lead initiatives around observability, alert hygiene, capacity planning, and incident response for high-traffic, high-sensitivity systems.
- Compliance & Data Integrity: Champion compliance initiatives including data retention, compromised credential detection, biometric data governance, and privacy-preserving design patterns. Ensure authentication systems meet evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
- Roadmap Influence: Provide technical input into team roadmap planning. Identify engineering investments that improve developer velocity, system resilience, and member experience — and advocate for them with engineering leadership and product.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating high-availability production services.
- Demonstrated familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) and a commitment to fostering an AI-first engineering culture that maximizes team quality and velocity.
- Demonstrated expertise designing and implementing authentication systems — including MFA, SSO, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and/or passkeys (FIDO2/WebAuthn).
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals in one or more languages such as Ruby, Java, Go, or Python, with a track record of building secure, scalable APIs and services.
- Experience operating distributed systems at scale, including caching, async processing, and cloud-native infrastructure (GCP preferred).
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives from definition through delivery with minimal oversight.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience influencing technical direction across engineering, product, and security stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of identity proofing and credentialing standards, including NIST 800-63-3 (IAL2/AAL2), Kantara Initiative requirements, or equivalent federal/state compliance frameworks.
- Experience building biometric authentication systems, including liveness detection, face match, or document-based identity verification.
- Familiarity with passkey/FIDO2 ecosystem including WebAuthn ceremonies, authenticator management, and cross-device authentication flows.
- Background in fraud detection, compromised credential checking, or account security systems at consumer scale.

Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a Principal Tech Lead Manager (TLM) to lead the engineering teams responsible for two foundational platform domains: the Organization Platform and the Data Acquisition & Normalization team. Together, these teams define how organizations are represented, validated, and trusted within ID.me's Identity Trust Graph — and how the attribute data powering those trust decisions is acquired, normalized, and kept current.
The Organization Platform team owns the APIs and services that create, validate, and manage organization records, applications, domain verification, business onboarding, and org-to-org relationships. This is the authoritative source of truth for how businesses and institutions are represented across ID.me's ecosystem — powering developer portal adoption, partner integrations, and downstream identity workflows.
The Data Acquisition & Normalization team is the execution arm of the Identity Trust Graph — building and operating connectors to authoritative and commercial data sources (government registries, telcos, licensing authorities, commercial data providers), normalizing heterogeneous data into clean schemas, and feeding validated attributes into the trust graph at internet scale.
As a TLM at the Principal level, you will be accountable for the technical architecture, delivery, reliability, and operational health of both platforms, as well as the growth and performance of the engineers delivering them. You will partner closely with Product, Security, Compliance, and enterprise stakeholders to drive a roadmap that balances velocity with the rigor these domains demand.
This position will be based full-time in our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the technical architecture for the Organization Platform — including Organizations API, Applications API, Domain Validation, Business Onboarding, RBAC, AI-driven org validation, and workflow engine services.
- Own the architecture and operational strategy for the Data Acquisition & Normalization platform — including source connectors, normalization pipelines, and validation event delivery to downstream consumers.
- Champion API-first, platform-first design across both teams — ensuring services are developer-friendly, well-documented, versioned, and built for long-term interoperability.
- Drive roadmap delivery across both teams — setting priorities, removing blockers, and ensuring high-quality, well-tested software ships on time.
- Build a team culture of ownership, technical rigor, continuous improvement, and high-quality code.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers, developing the next generation of technical leaders within the org.
- Serve as the technical bridge between Engineering, Product, Legal/Compliance, Security, and enterprise customer teams across both domains.
- Provide technical input into team and org-level planning, influencing roadmap prioritization based on platform capabilities and constraints.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in an engineering management or tech lead manager capacity leading teams of 5–10+ engineers.
- 5+ years of experience building and operating secure, scalable backend APIs and distributed systems (Java, Go, Ruby, Python, or similar).
- 5+ years of experience building and operating data pipelines, API integrations, or ETL/normalization systems at scale.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Deep familiarity with data privacy, security, and compliance considerations in products that handle sensitive personal or organizational data.
- Proven track record collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Legal/Compliance, Security, and business stakeholders to deliver complex programs.

Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to join the Person Resource team and design and build the core services that define and manage a person's identity within our platform. This includes ownership of the data models, APIs, and systems responsible for person creation, attributes, and profiles.
As a Staff Engineer, you will play a key role in architecting and scaling the Person platform to ensure it is secure, consistent, and performant across ID.me's ecosystem. You'll design APIs and services that serve as the source of truth for personal data, working across identity, verification, and platform teams to deliver a scalable and high-performance API that enables the interoperability and integrity of digital credentials used by millions of users and trusted partners.
This position will be based full-time in either our McLean, VA or Mountain View, CA office.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement Person Services, managing attribute bundles and trust for the Person entity.
- Build RESTful and GraphQL endpoints that meet strict standards for reliability, latency, and security, and integrate seamlessly with both internal and external systems.
- Develop robust data models and storage patterns to represent provenance and relationships across relational and graph databases.
- Implement credential lifecycle flows — including creation, validation, renewal, and revocation — integrated with ID.me's identity verification and attribute validation systems.
- Ensure the security and privacy of Person data through strong authentication, authorization, encryption, and audit practices.
- Collaborate closely with Platform, Identity, Security, and Partner Engineering teams to deliver end-to-end features and integrations.
- Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code, including automated tests and observability instrumentation.
- Contribute to system design discussions, code reviews, and technical documentation to drive clarity and alignment across teams.
- Continuously optimize performance, scalability, and reliability for Person services in production environments.
- Mentor and support senior and mid-level engineers, helping grow technical depth and team capability.
- Stay current on emerging identity and credentialing standards (e.g., Verifiable Credentials, Decentralized Identifiers, OIDC extensions) and bring new ideas into the product.
Required Qualifications
