Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services everyday and local businesses thrive. To date we have worked with over a million merchant partners worldwide, connecting over 16 million customers with deals across various categories. In a world often dominated by e-commerce giants, we stand out as one of the few platforms uniquely committed to helping local businesses succeed on a performance basis.
Groupon is on a radical journey to transform our business with relentless pursuit of results. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. The impact here can be immediate due to our scale and the speed of our transformation. We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have the resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact.
Groupon is looking for a Director of Strategic Finance to become the financial architect of our Demand Engine. This role reports directly to the CFO and partners closely with our CMO. Your job is simple to say - and hard to do: Turn marketing spend into provable, incremental growth. If you believe finance should help the business decide what to scale, what to stop, and why, this role was built for you.
We are moving beyond last-click attribution, blended CAC, and static reporting.
Marketing and Product need:
Clear visibility into incremental impact
Confidence in cohort quality and unit economics
Fast, defensible decisions on where to invest tens of millions - and where not to
You will build the financial truth that makes this possible.
Build the Demand Truth Model
Create an integrated demand model linking customer segments, channels, surfaces, and P&L
Establish a clear New vs Returning customer lens across major cohorts
Own demand-side planning with bottom-up assumptions tied to acquisition and retention
Move ROI from attribution to incrementality
Define marginal ROI frameworks and channel hurdle rates
Set testing and incrementality standards using holdouts and experiments
Drive real budget reallocations based on evidence, not averages
Own customer and unit economics
Standardize cohort-level LTV and CAC by channel, category, geography, and customer type
Shift the narrative from cost per transaction to lifetime contribution margin
Build contribution margin views that drive decisions
Deliver category- and geo-level contribution margin visibility
Classify the portfolio into Invest / Maintain / Fix or Exit
Partner with Pricing and Promotions to separate incremental demand from subsidized behavior
Run the demand-side operating cadence
Act as finance owner for unified revenue monitoring
Lead the financial narrative in Weekly and Monthly Business Reviews
Turn signals into decisions within 24 hours
You care about causality over correlation
You don’t just analyze data — you build systems and playbooks others can run
You are a trusted sparring partner to CMOs and growth leaders
You are comfortable saying “stop” as confidently as “scale”
When trends break, you land with a clear so what and now what
You work AI-first, using AI as a daily accelerant for analysis, modeling, and documentation
Senior experience in Strategic Finance, Growth Finance, or Marketing Finance
Background in marketplace, ecommerce, or high-volume B2C
Hands-on exposure to attribution and incrementality testing
Strong data fluency and partnership with BI and Data Science
Proven ability to influence executive-level decisions
Track record of improving contribution margin through capital allocation
High-leverage impact - your work directly shapes where the business invests
Build from scratch - define the demand finance system end to end
Executive exposure - CFO, CMO, CEO-level decisions
Real marketplace complexity - no vanity metrics
AI-native opportunity - help define the future of finance, not maintain the past
If you want to build the system that replaces opinions with evidence, this is your role.

Groupon's Merchant Operations team handles over 25,000 merchant cases a week across a global operation of 120+ people. The team is being made faster and smarter - through better processes, sharper data, and AI tools that are changing how the work gets done. This role sits at the centre of that. You will own the analytical and operational agenda that makes the whole machine run better: scoping problems, building solutions, and executing on them without being managed through it. If you need a clearly defined task list and someone to check in daily, this is not the right environment.
You will report directly to the Head of Merchant Operations, who owns the strategic direction of the team. Your closest partners will be the Head of MO India, the Salesforce Product Manager, and the Merchant Center Product Manager. You will also work regularly with Commercial Operations leadership.
Day 30: You have mapped current MO operations, established key cross-functional relationships, audited existing reporting, and identified 3 to 5 high-impact areas for improvement.
Day 60: You have delivered your first analytical project with actionable recommendations and have at least one operational improvement live with measurable results.
Day 90: You are independently managing 2 to 3 projects, contributing to strategic planning discussions, and have documented at least one set of SOPs that did not exist before you arrived.
You can demonstrably:
Nice to have
The work is complex, the data is imperfect, and the impact is real. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, apply.

Senior Full-Stack Engineer — CoreApps Platform (AI-native, Encore)
A builder role on the team that powers Groupon's global commerce engine.
CoreApps Platform is the foundational engineering group powering Groupon's global commerce engine — every customer interaction and every transaction, worldwide. This is a builder role: you take features from problem statement to production across backend, frontend, CI/CD, and test automation, using Claude Code as your daily leverage tool. You own the whole slice. You unblock yourself. You ship.
First 30 days: operating in the team's AI workflow on day one — Claude Code setup running, first PR merged, owning a service.
First 90 days: shipped at least one end-to-end feature across the full stack, reduced a real bottleneck, demonstrably faster velocity than traditional backend-IC pace.
First 180 days: the team points to work only you could have driven at that pace — migration cutovers, FE + BE features shipped as single units, tooling peers now depend on.
Builders. Engineers who take scope from "this is a problem" to "this is in production" without waiting for permission. Fluent in Claude Code as the force multiplier that makes one engineer effective across backend, frontend, DevOps, and QA. Deep in TypeScript, comfortable anywhere in the stack, energized by cutting through noise and shipping. If you wait to be told what to do, this role will frustrate you.

Encore team scaling through shared code. We're consolidating multiple internal tools into a unified application serving the entire company—today that's siloed, fragile, and slowing us down. The right EM will ship faster, drive 30% higher code quality across the shared monorepo, and give the platform the technical leadership it needs. With this hire, we eliminate friction between teams, establish clear ownership, and turn a bottleneck into a lever.
You'll report to Ales Drabek, CTO, who owns the NextGen Architecture initiative. You'll lead a core team of 7 engineers building the Encore platform (shared libraries, infrastructure, and tooling) while coordinating closely with cross-tribe engineers who depend on it—Encore, Platform, Product Design, QA teams, and multiple product squads. This is a technical leadership role where you'll operate hands-on; we need someone who codes in production, not just manages. Direct feedback moves at the speed of shipping—we don't wait for perfect information, we iterate on what we learn.
Day 30: You've mapped the technical landscape (dependencies, pain points, team constraints), met all key stakeholders (product, design, QA, squads), and identified the top 3 unblocking opportunities. First decision in flight: a concrete change to testing or deployment that reduces cycle time.
Day 60: You've shipped your first independent initiative—stabilized a critical SLA, simplified a deployment workflow, or shipped a shared library feature. You've made at least one architectural call that's driving the team toward cleaner code.
Day 90: Operating without hand-holding. You're holding the quality bar, making trade-off decisions autonomously, and the team is moving faster. You own a named outcome (e.g., "monorepo build times," "incident resolution time") and it's improving.
You can demonstrably:
Extreme Ownership: You take singular accountability for problems without being pushed. You see a broken build? You revert it or fix it. You see friction between teams? You unblock it. No hiding behind "that's someone else's responsibility."
Speed over Comfort: We ship fast and iterate. Perfection is the enemy of velocity. You'll make decisions with incomplete information, course-correct, and move on. If that stresses you out, this isn't the right fit.
Simplify to Scale: You obsess over reducing complexity. Every added layer, tool, or process needs to unblock the team. Bureaucracy is the enemy. We want the monorepo to feel like a leverage point for the whole company, not a chokepoint.

At Groupon, data isn't just a byproduct—it is the product. We are looking for a Senior Data Analytics Engineer to bridge the gap between raw infrastructure and business insight. You won't just write queries; you will architect the semantic layer of our data warehouse, ensuring that every dashboard, AI model, and executive decision is built on a foundation of trust.
This is a high-impact Individual Contributor role for a builder who loves SQL, obsesses over data modeling, and wants to solve complex problems at a global scale.
We don't just analyze AI; we build with it. You will work in an AI-First environment, leveraging LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) daily to:
Accelerate SQL generation and refactoring.
Automate documentation and data lineage.
Build specific "Feature Stores" that power our Machine Learning models.
The Gold Layer: Design and maintain clean, reusable, and documented data marts in BigQuery that serve as the single source of truth for the company.
Pipeline Orchestration: Build robust ELT pipelines using Airflow or Keboola. If a pipeline fails at 3 AM, your code is resilient enough to handle it.
Performance Engineering: Optimize SQL for massive scale. You understand clustering, partitioning, and execution plans to ensure we process petabytes without burning the budget.
Data Governance: Implement automated testing (dbt-style checks) to catch data drift before it hits the dashboard.
Core: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery.
Orchestration: Airflow, Cloud Composer, Keboola.
Languages: Advanced SQL (Mandatory), Python.
Visualization: Tableau, Looker (Knowledge of the semantic layer).
5+ Years Experience: You have a track record in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or BI Development.
SQL Mastery: You write production-grade code. You know the difference between a query that works and a query that scales.
Data Modeling: Deep understanding of dimensional modeling (Kimball/Star Schema) and modern data stack patterns.
Builder Mindset: You treat data assets like software products—versioned, tested, and documented.
Ready to build the data engine that powers the future of local commerce? Apply Now.
