As an Intermediate Backend Engineer on the SSCS Add-On team at GitLab, you'll help build a dedicated software supply chain security feature for regulated enterprise organizations. In this role, you'll contribute to capabilities that help customers control software dependencies, verify artifact integrity, and identify malicious packages before they reach production.
Your work will sit at the intersection of backend engineering, product integration, and security-focused development. You'll build in Ruby on Rails, work alongside Go services as needed, and help connect Add-On functionality with GitLab's existing security scanning experience so findings are surfaced consistently for users. Because the team is small, you'll have meaningful influence on implementation details, team practices, and the product experience.
This role is part of GitLab's all-remote, async-first, values-driven environment, where clear written communication and thoughtful coordination across time zones are essential.
The SSCS Add-On team is part of GitLab's Software Supply Chain Security stage and is focused on building a commercial offering that addresses real supply chain security challenges for enterprise customers. The team works on capabilities that combine multiple parts of the GitLab product into a more complete security solution for organizations with strong compliance and risk management needs.
The work is both technically interesting and strategically important. The team is building in a space shaped by fast-moving threats, evolving customer requirements, and close coordination with nearby teams across the broader security area. That combination creates an environment where engineers can contribute to product direction while solving practical backend challenges in a visible part of GitLab's platform. For more on how related teams work, see Team Handbook Page.
Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. If you're excited about this role, please apply and allow our recruiters to assess your application.
Country Hiring Guidelines: GitLab hires new team members in countries around the world. All of our roles are remote, however some roles may carry specific location-based eligibility requirements. As an Intermediate Backend Engineer on the AI Governance team at GitLab, you'll help build a paid product designed for regulated enterprise organizations that need to audit, govern, and demonstrate compliance for AI agent usage inside GitLab. This is product work with direct customer impact. You'll contribute to features that support visibility into how AI agents and related tools are used, and you'll help lay the foundation for governance controls that enterprise customers rely on.
You'll join a small team with clear product direction, technical guidance from experienced backend engineers, and meaningful ownership from the start. This role is well suited for an engineer with experience in backend development who writes solid tests and wants to grow by shipping real features in an evolving product area. You'll work in GitLab's all-remote, asynchronous environment, collaborating across teams as the AI Governance roadmap continues to expand.
You'll join the AI Governance team within GitLab's Secure, Scale, and Compliance area. We focus on helping organizations gain visibility into and govern AI usage inside GitLab. An overview of this role:
As a Staff Backend Engineer on the GitLab Knowledge Graph team, you'll help design, scale, and operate a high‑impact graph data service that underpins agents, analytics, and architecture‑level features across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self‑Managed deployments. You'll partner with a small, senior Rust‑first team to ship reliable graph capabilities and make them easy for other teams and agents to use.
The Knowledge Graph service is a distributed SDLC indexing system. It builds a property graph from GitLab SDLC (software development lifecycle) and code data using ClickHouse, NATS JetStream, and the Data Insights Platform. It also exposes secure graph queries and MCP tools for AI agents and product features. In this role, you’ll own core parts of the system end to end: shaping the architecture, hardening multi‑tenant behavior and performance, and making it straightforward for other teams and agents to consume graph capabilities.
In your first year, you’ll take clear ownership of major areas of the service (for example, the graph query engine, SDLC indexing, or multi‑tenant authorization), reduce single points of failure through better runbooks and shared context, and raise the bar on how we design, build, and operate analytical services across the stack.
What you’ll do
What you’ll bring
The Knowledge Graph team sits within the data engineering organization and builds the backend service that turns GitLab's SDLC and code data into a unified property graph. We expose it through a high-performance, ClickHouse-backed query engine and MCP tools. We're a small group of senior engineers working closely with partners across AI (Duo Agent Platform), analytics, infrastructure, delivery, and security because our work touches many layers of the platform. We work asynchronously and value strong ownership: each engineer is expected to build a deep understanding of the system and help evolve it over time. As we grow adoption, we're focused on scaling the service sustainably and making it reliable and easy to operate for GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed customers.
Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) are responsible for keeping all user-facing services and other GitLab production systems running smoothly. SREs are a blend of pragmatic operators and software craftspeople who apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and mature automation to our operating environments and the GitLab codebase.
In this role, you will join the Tenant Services, Geo team. Geo is a feature that replicates data from a GitLab instance to a warm-standby, and is used both for data migrations and disaster recovery. The Tenant Services, Geo team is responsible for supporting GitLab Dedicated customer migrations and Geo-related escalations across GitLab Dedicated (excluding FedRAMP environments).
We don’t expect you to have prior experience with Geo or Gitaly; familiarity with disaster recovery technologies or GitLab itself is sufficient, and we’ll support you in learning our specific stack.
The team’s mandate spans the full Geo operational surface, pre- and post-cutover data hygiene, migration execution, and non-migration Geo escalations, working closely with the core Geo team, Dedicated migrations, and Support. You will help evolve a reliable, low-risk cutover model for Dedicated migrations while improving tooling, automation, and observability so migrations become faster, safer, and more predictable over time.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, AI Governance at GitLab, you will help build the backend systems behind a paid product for regulated enterprise organizations that need clear visibility, policy controls, and compliance evidence for AI use inside the software development lifecycle. This role sits at the intersection of AI, governance, and enterprise backend engineering, where your work will help customers adopt AI agents with more confidence.
You will contribute across the AI Governance product surface rather than focus on a single narrow area. That includes backend work for audit event ingestion and export, role-based access control, governance features for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) registry, and storage systems for AI agent artifacts. You will work on technical problems with meaningful scope and complexity, partnering closely with the team on architecture and implementation in an async-first environment.
This is a good fit for someone who enjoys building reliable systems for enterprise use cases, designing for scale, and working in a space where product requirements are shaped by emerging AI regulations and customer governance needs. Your work will directly support organizations that need to manage AI usage with the same rigor they apply to security, compliance, and software delivery.
You'll join the AI Governance team within GitLab's Secure, Scale, and Compliance area. We focus on helping organizations gain visibility into and govern AI usage inside GitLab. As a Strategic Account Executive for our Digital Natives segment, you'll drive GitLab's growth by helping leading digital native organisations across India adopt, implement, and expand their use of our AI-powered DevSecOps platform. You'll focus on large, complex enterprise accounts, guiding customers through modernisation and DevSecOps transformations while driving pipeline generation that translates into measurable Net ARR and long-term expansion. In this role, you'll use your understanding of the software development lifecycle, including continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) automation, secure development practices, and infrastructure modernisation, to connect customer stakeholders with GitLab's field organisation so GitLab is seen as a trusted, long-term partner across the full sales cycle. In your first year, you'll be expected to build a strong digital natives portfolio across your territory, create repeatable sales motions aligned to how modern product and engineering organisations buy and adopt platforms, and consistently forecast and report on deal progress and account health.

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll guide GitLab’s dedicated Software Supply Chain Security (SSCS) Add-On engineering team as it develops core capabilities including Dependency Firewall, Build Provenance, Malicious Packages detection, and Artifact Signing. This is a founding management role where you’ll help shape how the team works, partner closely with the Staff Backend Engineer, Product Manager, and SSCS stage management, and turn a defined roadmap into steady, high-quality delivery for enterprise customers with strict security and compliance needs. You’ll focus on developing the team, creating a healthy operating rhythm, and establishing predictable execution for the SSCS SKU.
You’ll join a product area where customers in regulated industries are already validating the need, and your work will help GitLab deliver software supply chain security features that customers can rely on. While technical credibility matters, your main focus will be growing a strong backend engineering team, enabling team members in their development, and creating the conditions for long-term delivery and quality.
The SSCS Add-On team is a product engineering team within GitLab’s Software Supply Chain Security stage. We work on key capabilities in the SSCS Add-On SKU and collaborate closely with product and engineering partners to deliver security features for customers operating in regulated environments. You’ll report to the SSCS Senior Engineering Manager and partner directly with the Staff Backend Engineer and Product Manager. As a distributed team working asynchronously across regions, we are focused on strong delivery practices, team health, and scaling the product area with clarity and accountability. An overview of this role
As an Intermediate Backend Engineer on the GitLab Knowledge Graph team, you'll help build and operate a graph data service that supports GitLab Duo agents, analytics, and architecture-level features across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed deployments. You’ll join a small, Rust-first team that values clear ownership, thoughtful system design, and rigorous thinking about data and reliability.
The Knowledge Graph service is a Rust backend that builds a property graph from GitLab’s software development lifecycle (SDLC) and code data. It uses ClickHouse, NATS JetStream, and the Data Insights Platform. It exposes secure graph queries and MCP tools used by AI agents and product features. In this role, you’ll deliver features and improvements in well-scoped areas, learn the broader architecture, and contribute to reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
In your first year, you’ll take clear ownership of specific components or features (for example, parts of the SDLC indexing pipeline or query paths). You’ll help reduce single points of failure with better tests and runbooks, and you’ll help the team ship analytical services that are easier to maintain and evolve over time.
What you’ll do
What you’ll bring
About the team
We sit within the Data Engineering organization. We're a small group of senior engineers and we work closely with partners across AI (Duo Agent Platform), analytics, infrastructure and delivery, and security because our work spans many parts of the platform.
We collaborate asynchronously and optimize for strong ownership rather than a feature factory model. We each build a meaningful understanding of the system and help evolve it over time. A key challenge for us right now is scaling sustainably. That includes hardening multi-tenant behavior, maturing observability and readiness, and keeping the system healthy and maintainable as usage grows and team members take time off. At the same time, we're bringing Knowledge Graph to general availability (GA).
Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. As a Senior Data Analyst on GitLab's Enterprise Analytics team, you'll support some of GitLab's most visible go-to-market and executive reporting. You'll work closely with Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations, Finance, and analytics partners to deliver company-level reports, go-to-market performance views, and lifecycle reporting that leaders use to run the business. Working in Snowflake, dbt, Tableau, and VS Code, you'll turn ambiguous business questions into trusted, well-documented data products that serve as a single source of truth for performance and targets versus actuals. You'll also help improve our Enterprise Analytics handbook and core data foundations so strategy, processes, and metric definitions are clear and usable in our all-remote, values-driven environment.
The Enterprise Analytics team is a centralized, cross-functional partner to GitLab's go-to-market organization and executive leadership. The team turns data from systems such as Snowflake, Salesforce, GitLab, and other business platforms into actionable insights and self-service reporting that support operating reviews and strategic decision-making. You'll join a fully remote, globally distributed team that collaborates asynchronously to define shared metrics and deliver reporting that leaders can trust. We document our strategy and processes in the handbook so stakeholders can use data more independently. The team is currently focused on scaling company-level scorecards, new-customer and first-order reporting, and go-to-market performance analytics across motions.

As a Senior Backend Engineer at GitLab, you will help build the core capabilities of our dedicated software supply chain security Add-On. This commercial offering helps organizations control what software enters their builds, verify the integrity of what they ship, and identify malicious packages before they reach production. You will work across a set of connected backend systems that support package policy enforcement, artifact signing and verification, provenance attestation, and malicious package intelligence.
This is a founding role on a small team with a high level of responsibility. The engineering choices you make in API design, testing, performance, and security will help shape how this product grows. You will work closely with a Staff Backend Engineer on architecture and partner with other engineers to deliver secure, reliable features for enterprise customers with complex supply chain security needs. This role is well suited for someone who wants to combine solid Ruby on Rails backend skills with deep technical problems in security, platform design, and product development in GitLab's all-remote, asynchronous environment.
Some examples of our projects:

You'll join the Dedicated team as a Site Reliability Engineer focused on Environment Automation, where your work will help power hundreds of isolated GitLab environments for our customers. In this role, you'll help keep these environments reliable, scalable, secure, and consistent by treating everything as code and contributing to automation across the entire lifecycle, from initial provisioning to day-to-day operations. Instead of operating a single platform, you'll collaborate with senior SREs to solve the unique challenges of managing many tenant environments in parallel, each with its own constraints and integration points.
You'll help define, deploy, and maintain GitLab environments across cloud providers using infrastructure as code, deployment packages, and Kubernetes. You'll contribute to automation that reduces manual work, assist in building tooling that orchestrates upgrades and configuration changes safely at scale, and support an observability stack that lets us understand and improve the health of every environment. Your work will directly impact how customers experience GitLab Dedicated and other managed offerings, enabling them to focus on building software while we ensure their GitLab environments are always production ready.
Some examples of work you'll do:
We are responsible for building, running, and evolving the entire lifecycle of the GitLab environments that power the GitLab Dedicated platform. You'll be part of our team focused on owning the reliability, scalability, performance, and security of automated single-tenant GitLab instances and their supporting services. GitLab Dedicated provides fully managed, isolated environments for customers around the world, which means your work directly impacts how organizations of all sizes run their mission-critical software delivery on GitLab. We operate in a fully distributed, asynchronous environment across multiple regions, collaborating on everything from infrastructure automation and environment lifecycle design to incident response and capacity planning. You'll be solving novel challenges at scale, from orchestrating infrastructure-as-code workflows across hundreds of tenants to designing the automation that keeps those environments consistent, secure, and up to date. We continuously seek to reduce complexity and improve efficiency by leveraging cloud vendor managed products and services where appropriate, ensuring GitLab Dedicated remains a best-in-class managed platform for our customers. For more on how we operate, see the relevant GitLab Dedicated and infrastructure handbook pages.

As a Staff Backend Engineer - AI Governance at GitLab, you'll help define the technical foundation for how GitLab Duo agents are governed at enterprise scale. This role sits where AI systems, compliance, auditability, and backend architecture meet. You'll shape core systems that give customers clear visibility into AI agent activity and the controls they need to manage usage with clarity.
You'll work on backend architecture that enables auditable AI actions, policy-based governance, and enterprise reporting across the GitLab platform. This includes designing systems for AI audit events, policy enforcement, tool governance, and integrations that help organizations analyze and control how AI agents interact with code, pipelines, secrets, and other sensitive resources.
This is a high-impact role for someone ready to set technical direction early, write and review strong design proposals, and influence multiple teams. You'll partner closely with engineering teams working on GitLab Duo and adjacent platform areas to make sure governance capabilities are built into the product in a scalable and consistent way. Your work will help customers in regulated and security-conscious environments adopt AI features with greater trust and operational clarity.
You'll join the AI Governance team within GitLab's Secure, Scale, and Compliance area. We focus on helping organizations gain visibility into and govern AI usage inside GitLab. Our work spans two broad problem spaces: visibility, such as audit events, usage tracking, and observability, and policy controls, such as controls that help protect projects and meet compliance requirements.
We are building this team alongside a parallel AI Governance team, with both groups contributing to different parts of a fast-changing roadmap. You'll work with a distributed group of engineers and collaborate with adjacent AI and Continuous Delivery teams as we integrate governance capabilities more deeply into the platform. It's an interesting team for engineers who want to work on emerging product challenges at the intersection of AI, compliance, and large-scale enterprise software.

As a Staff Backend Engineer at GitLab, you will help shape a major investment in our Software Supply Chain Security offering. In this role, you'll serve as a senior technical leader for backend systems that help customers secure how software is built, verified, and delivered inside the GitLab platform. You'll work on foundational capabilities across package policy enforcement, build provenance, artifact signing, and malicious package detection, with a strong focus on enterprise-grade security and performance.
You'll define architecture before systems are built, write clear technical proposals, and guide implementation across interconnected parts of GitLab such as CI/CD, dependency management, and security workflows. This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys solving complex backend problems, influencing technical direction across teams, and building security features that matter to customers facing real threats. You'll do this in GitLab's remote, asynchronous, and values-driven environment, where written communication, ownership, and teamwork are central to how we work.
Some examples of our projects:

An overview of this role
As an Intermediate Backend Engineer, you'll guide the design and development of backend systems that help the company identify customer usage patterns across GitLab SaaS and Self-Managed deployments. That data informs product decisions. This role offers the opportunity to build foundational infrastructure that makes instrumentation simpler and more reliable for teams at GitLab.
Our team is part of the Data Engineering organization and runs a foundational service used by all research and development teams at GitLab. We manage the systems that send, transport, and validate instrumentation data across the company, giving us visibility into customer usage patterns across GitLab SaaS and Self-Managed deployment environments. This data informs usage billing and product planning. We're building a unified, Go-based instrumentation service that replaces multiple language-specific SDKs, making it easier for teams to instrument their features while ensuring data integrity for billing and analysis. As a distributed team working asynchronously across multiple time zones, we work closely with product and engineering teams across the company and provide guidance on instrumenting features effectively.
Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification.
