About the Role
Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our ETL Platform team.
We own the core platform that backs Census’ sync engine. We are responsible for keeping our customer data flowing smoothly - on time, every time. We design and implement projects like our recent Sync Tracking overhaul - enabling us to capture, store, and process huge datasets, giving customers complete visibility into what data is flowing through our pipes; providing the capability to verify that every record is getting where it needs to go. We manage a constantly scaling and resizing fleet of machines to handle the dynamic needs of our customers, so one could call us the shadow infrastructure team as well.
This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our Toronto office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.
Technologies You’ll Use
Expertise in at least one interpreted language such as Python, Ruby on Rails, etc.
Expertise in at least one compiled language such as C++, Kotlin, Scala, Go, Java, etc.
Solid understanding of relational databases (experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake) is a bonus)
Proven experience in system integration, including API consumption and development (experience with infrastructure management is a bonus)
Familiarity with leading cloud providers, such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
Experience being on-call
What You’ll Do
Make valuable contributions to the deepest recesses of our tech stack – including writing typesafe Ruby and Rails with Sorbet, building performant Kotlin microservices, managing highly available Spark clusters, working on deterministic Temporal workflows, and Terraforming all the things in AWS.
Think in Parquet, live in cloud storage, and have data flowing through your veins.
Operate in hostile territory on all sides–building and managing a data diffing ETL engine that operates across every type of data warehouse and SQL dialect imaginable on data you don’t own or control, and send it to countless permutations of destinations that could respond any number of unpredictable ways.
Be a reliable and steadfast operator, participating in the team on-call rotation to help diagnose, triage and fix performance bottlenecks and gnarly edge-cases our customers discover. You’ll leave the campsite cleaner than you found it.
Work closely with our product team to help design and develop new features to improve data pipeline observability and debuggability, putting you on a first name basis with the data teams of many companies you have come to love and respect.

We’re seeking an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer to join our fast-growing data company. As a part of the databases team, you will help drive performance improvements, improve reliability/architecture and build new features for our data pipeline services.
This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our Toronto, ON office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.

What You’ll Do
Write and deliver code reliably, along with automated tests (unit and integration)
Break down project work into tasks with effort estimates
Give and receive feedback through code reviews
Independently create technical designs for new features and actively seek feedback
Write common components to be used within the team or department
Mentor other engineers on improving all aspects of their code, according to established coding practices
Collaborate daily with team members to develop new features and improvements while minimizing technical debt
Resolve customer issues in collaboration with customer support
Work across the software development lifecycle: requirements, design, prototype, implementation, review, release, and monitoring
Skills We’re Looking For
Expertise in Java development
Experience developing reliable software with high-volume data management under strict SLAs
Experience working with popular cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)
Knowledge of popular NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB)
Knowledge of and appreciation for clean code practices
Ability to troubleshoot problematic code and identify root cause(s)
Optional Bonus Skills
Experience working with change data capture for MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB and/or IBM Db2
Experience developing data integration tools (ETL or ELT)
Experience identifying and optimizing performance bottlenecks in distributed systems

About the Role
Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies. Fivetran Support partners with customer teams around the world to deliver a best-in-class support experience, combining deep technical expertise with a strong customer-first mindset.
We’re looking for a Customer Support Engineer who brings strong technical troubleshooting skills, clear communication, and a passion for delivering high-quality outcomes for customers. In this role, you will work with new and existing customers in a highly technical capacity by investigating complex issues, managing escalations with professionalism, and collaborating closely with engineering and product teams to drive issues to resolution and help prevent future occurrences. Through a collaborative and holistic approach, you will act as a customer’s technical champion within Fivetran, advocating for their needs while contributing to product quality and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do
Work directly with new and existing customers to troubleshoot and resolve highly technical issues
Take end-to-end ownership of customer cases, including investigation, root cause analysis, resolution, and follow-up
Provide support through multiple channels, including email, web, and virtual meetings
Support customers round the clock in close partnership with our APAC and EMEA regional support teams
Investigate incidents utilizing the Fivetran environment, connectors, logs, and other troubleshooting tools
Partner closely with Engineering to submit clear, well-documented bugs and help drive them to resolution
Collaborate with Product to surface feature requests and customer feedback
Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, customer-friendly manner
Document known issues, workarounds, and solutions in the knowledge base
Contribute to process improvements that improve customer experience and operational efficiency
Skills We’re Looking For
Strong customer advocacy mindset with a focus on high-quality outcomes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Good teammate with a passion for building a positive culture where we leave our ego at the door and are always excited to learn new things
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical systems methodically
Experience debugging and isolating issues with REST and SOAP APIs and SQL databases, with a strong understanding of how data moves between systems
Comfortable using SQL to investigate issues, and able to read and understand Ruby or other programming languages, including interpreting stack traces and exceptions
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Experience working with common SaaS REST APIs like Salesforce, Hubpot, Meta, or Google Ads with a strong understanding of how end users interact with these technologies
Experience with ETL processes, data transformation, and integration tools used to streamline data movement and ensure data consistency across platforms.
