Engineering Manager, Smart Signals

Fingerprint's Smart Signals team is the front line of our fraud and device intelligence capabilities. We produce the signals — Bot Detection, Browser tampering detection, Incognito Detection, suspect score, fraud score and much more — that developers use to build secure, fraud-resistant applications. As the fraud landscape shifts toward agentic AI attacks and telemetry tampering, this team's work has never been more strategically critical. Smart Signals is key to Fingerprint's primary product differentiation - Every new signal you ship directly impacts ARR.

We are hiring a **Smart Signals Engineering Manager** to own the day-to-day execution, people leadership, and technical delivery of the Smart Signals team.

What You’ll Do

Lead the team. Own 1:1s, performance calibrations, career development, and hiring. Set the bar for code quality, on-call discipline, and delivery. Coach intentionally — especially engineers approaching Staff.

Drive execution. Own sprint planning and roadmap delivery. Manage scope, urgency, and quality tradeoffs — know when to ship and when to slow down. Run tight processes: planning, incident response, on-call rotations, postmortems.

Stay technically grounded. Maintain enough depth in the signals stack to review designs, challenge architectural decisions, and surface risks before they become incidents. Partner with ML Engineers on signal pipelines and model deployment.

Coordinate across teams. Represent Smart Signals in technical discussions across Engineering. Manage cross-team dependencies proactively and communicate tradeoffs clearly to PMs and leadership.

Shape signal strategy. Partner with Eng Leadership and Product on roadmap prioritization. Translate research findings into executable engineering plans. Contribute to detection strategy as the threat landscape evolves.

Who You Are

Required

• Engineering management experience: 4+ years managing a team of 8–10 engineers. You have owned performance management, career conversations, and hiring — not just run standups.
• Technical depth in backend systems: You have built or operated production backend services at scale. You can review code, challenge architecture decisions, and earn credibility with senior engineers through substance.
• Delivery track record: Concrete examples — with outcomes and numbers — of quarters where your team shipped reliably. You can diagnose why a team slips and what you specifically did about it.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Direct experience working with PMs and research or data partners to translate requirements into executable engineering plans. You manage dependencies proactively.

Nice-to-Have

• Fraud detection or security signals familiarity: Some exposure to fraud, risk, or device intelligence systems — enough to understand what false positives and false negatives mean for product quality. Deep expertise is not required; curiosity about the space and the ability to ramp quickly is what matters.
• ML-in-production exposure: You've worked alongside ML engineers or data scientists shipping models to production and understand the operationalization challenges at a high level — model drift, serving infrastructure, rollback — even if you weren't building it yourself.
• High-growth B2B SaaS or API-first company experience.
• Real-time or latency-sensitive systems: Experience managing engineers working on signal pipelines, edge computation, or systems where p95/p99 latency is a product quality metric.

Compensation Range

For US-based employees, the cash compensation range for this role is $159,000 – $215,000. • Design and own end-to-end technical solutions across frontend and backend as part of a high performing team.

• Build intuitive, high-quality user experiences in React and TypeScript with strong attention to performance and usability.
• Interface with product leaders, designers, and other engineers to effectively communicate changes and expectations.

Qualifications:

• 7+ years experience using JavaScript (TypeScript preferred) and Node.js in a full-stack or frontend-focused role.
• Strong experience building production applications with React (preferred) or another modern frontend framework.
• Deep understanding of frontend architecture, performance optimization, and building maintainable component systems.
• Experience with at least one backend framework such as Express, NestJS, Ruby on Rails, etc.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience building and improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and release processes for containerized applications.
• Experience owning projects from concept to production, including design, development, testing, implementation, and support.
• Strong focus on quality — consistently deliver well-tested, maintainable code and take ownership of production systems, including on-call support as needed.
• Experience working in production systems with operational ownership (monitoring, debugging, incident response).
• Effective communication skills: engage in healthy discussions with peers, willing to disagree and commit, and provide clear status updates.
• Self-motivated and able to function with autonomy (with responsibility), along with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work asynchronously with a 100% remote team across multiple timezones.

Manager of Cloud Platform Engineering

The Role in Context

Fingerprint is scaling rapidly, and our infrastructure is the bedrock of our 25B+ annual request volume. We are looking for a Manager of Cloud Platform Engineering to lead a team of 6 elite engineers.

In this role, you aren’t just keeping the lights on—you are the architect of our scalability, the guardian of our hosting efficiency, and the primary bridge between Engineering and Finance. You will have high autonomy to define what "best-in-class" infrastructure looks like for a high-growth SaaS leader.

Your Mission

• Lead & Elevate: Direct a team of 6 Cloud Engineers. You will foster a culture of high ownership, technical excellence, and "Infrastructure as Code" (IaC) first.
• Scale the Platform: Oversee the evolution of our AWS EKS clusters, ensuring they remain resilient, performant, and secure under massive load.
• Strategic FinOps: Partner directly with the Finance team to manage hosting costs. You will be responsible for cost-visibility, and driving a "cost-conscious" engineering culture.
• Establish the Standard: Define and enforce infrastructure best practices (security, CI/CD, observability) across the entire engineering organization.

What You’ll Do

• Operational Excellence: Manage and improve our modern DevOps stack, including ArgoCD for GitOps, GitHub Actions for CI/CD, and Cloudflare for edge protection.
• Architecture & Governance: Act as the primary technical advisor for cloud architecture. Ensure that as product teams build new features, the underlying infrastructure is scalable by default.
• Autonomy & Influence: Operate with minimal guidance to identify bottlenecks, propose architectural shifts, and lead their execution.

Qualifications

Required:

• Leadership Experience: 5+ years managing engineering teams in a cloud-native environment, with a total of 10+ years in technology.
• AWS Mastery: Deep expertise in the AWS ecosystem, specifically EKS (Kubernetes), IAM, VPC, and RDS.
• Modern DevOps Stack: Expert-level knowledge of GitOps workflows (ArgoCD), CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• FinOps & Cost Management: Proven track record of managing seven-figure cloud budgets and implementing successful cost-reduction strategies.
• Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives from conception to completion with minimal oversight.

Preferred:

• Security Mindset: Familiarity with SOC 2 compliance, network security, and zero-trust principles.

TypeScript Engineer, JS Agent
