JOB ROLE SUMMARY
Storage Engineers ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of Storage Area Networks, NAS (Network Attached Storage) Arrays and Out Of Band managed Storage Arrays as well as any array or appliance based replication. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the storage arrays and array based replication as well as the Storage Area Networks that they are attached to.

Mentors other with less experience
Participate in service restoration calls for supported managed SAN Fabric and Storage Arrays
Participate in client disaster recovery/business continuity tests
Remediates security vulnerabilities
Automates and scripts various tasks/jobs as needed
Creates reports as required on various components, inventory, licensing, etc.
Delegates various tasks to other team members

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct reports but may mentor less experienced associates in the role.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Minimum of 4 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Full understanding of virtual servers and operating systems, block, file, and object storage, and data protection
• Full knowledge to install and configure high availability compute solutions supporting business critical functions
• Understands how the whole picture aligns to overall Ensono strategy
• Understanding of multiple scripting languages to develop solutions for automation and reporting
• Work in a team to design computer system configurations
• Design and document procedures to apply operating systems patches, code and firmware updates to systems infrastructure
• Participate in primary design meetings for Client disaster recovery planning
• Proficiency in Operating system installation procedure
• Implement storage and data protection configurations
• Research system vulnerabilities and provide documentation for future use implementing corrective actions as required
• Develop guidelines and procedures for systems management including process and efficiency improvements
• Monitor and tune systems to identify and eliminate issues and potential bottlenecks
• Prepare periodic reports related to capacity and utilization
• Design and implement advanced network configurations within the virtual server configuration

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8+ years of related experience or a Master's degree with 6 years of experience; or equivalent work experience
• Operating SystemsWindows 5+ years hands on administration of Windows OS environments and/or
• VMware 5+ years hands on administration of VMware environments and/or
• Linux 5+ years hands on administration with RHEL or other Linux environments
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, to include resources, priorities, and timelines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Results oriented team player who will work towards meeting team commitments
• Experience with system configuration automation (Scripting with Pearl/Python/Bash or DevOps tools like Chef/Puppet)
• Ability to mentor technical operations staff in appropriate technologies, as needed
• Understanding of the competitive landscape from both business and technical perspective is a plus
• AWS experience in designing, provisioning, monitoring and managing the environment is a big plus
• AWS Certifications such as SysOps Administrator Associate, Solutions Architect Associate and Professional ITIL Foundations Certified is a plus
• Preferred certifications: Microsoft Certified IT Professional ﴾MCITP﴿ / Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) / Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) / Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) / VMware Certified Professional – VCP / Red Hat Certified Engineer
• Experience with DevOps and Agile frameworks is a plus

Job Summary

The L3 Backup & Recovery Engineer is a senior technical resource responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and support of enterprise backup and recovery platforms, with primary focus on Cohesity DataProtect and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (IBM Spectrum Protect). This role provides expert‑level troubleshooting, leads incident resolution, supports DR readiness, and acts as a technical escalation point for L1/L2 teams and client environments.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Operations & Support

• Serve as L3 escalation for complex backup, restore, replication, and DR issues across Cohesity DataProtect and Tivoli Storage Manager environments
• Perform advanced root cause analysis for backup failures, performance issues, data corruption, and recovery incidents
• Lead and execute critical restores (file, VM, database, application‑level, and full system recovery)
• Support 24x7 shifts (including weekends and holidays) with rotations and major incident bridges as required

Platform Engineering & Administration

• Maintain enterprise backup architectures using Cohesity DataProtect and Tivoli Storage Manager
• Configure and manage:
• Backup policies, schedules, and SLAs
• Retention, replication, and archival strategies (on‑prem and cloud targets)
• Encryption, immutability, and ransomware protection features
• Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and storage optimization
• Lead platform upgrades, migrations, and version lifecycle management

Disaster Recovery & Compliance

• Participate in and lead DR tests, audits, and recovery simulations
• Ensure compliance with RPO/RTO, security, and regulatory requirements
• Support data protection strategies for hybrid, cloud, and virtualized environments

Automation & Continuous Improvement

• Automate backup operations and reporting using scripts and native tooling where applicable
• Identify opportunities to standardize, optimize, and reduce operational risk
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to L1/L2 engineers

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a technical advisor to clients and internal teams
• Participate in root‑cause reviews and technical design discussions
• Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge articles

Required Technical Skills

Core Technologies

• Cohesity DataProtect (advanced administration, troubleshooting, restores, replication)
• IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (IBM Spectrum Protect)
• Enterprise backup concepts: incremental/full, deduplication, replication
• ServiceNow for ITSM

Infrastructure Platforms

• Virtualization: VMware and Hyper‑V
• Operating Systems: Windows Server, Linux (RHEL, SUSE, AIX preferred)
• Databases & applications: SQL Server, Oracle, file systems (preferred)

• Object storage (S3‑compatible, Azure Blob – preferred)

Experience & Qualifications

• 7–10+ years in enterprise backup or data protection roles
• Strong experience administering Cohesity Data Protect and Tivoli Storage Manager / IBM Spectrum Protect
• Experience in managed services or large enterprise environments preferred
• Relevant certifications (preferred but not required):
• Cohesity certification
• IBM Spectrum Protect certification

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to lead during high‑severity incidents
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Comfortable working in client‑facing and globally distributed teams
