Purpose
The Advanced Manufacturing Maintenance Specialist is a results-driven individual who will own the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of our high-tech manufacturing fleet—including CNC mills, robotic work cells, laser-based additive systems, vacuum furnaces, ovens, chillers, and other equipment. The role blends hands-on maintenance and advanced diagnostics to keep production running at peak efficiency while championing safety, quality, and data-driven improvement.
The Role
The Advanced Manufacturing Maintenance Specialist plays a vital role in availability, efficiency and cost of machinery utilized in our manufacturing operations. The Specialist is expected to exemplify our core values and demonstrate operational excellence. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with good mechanical aptitude with an understanding of production workflows, can adapt to shifting priorities. The Specialist is responsible for maintaining all production equipment, while working collaboratively with leads, supervisors, and management to meet operational goals.
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
- Run CNC, robot, laser-additive machines, and thermal-process equipment per SOPs.
- Track key performance indicators (OEE, cycle time, scrap) on dashboards.
- Execute scheduled PMs (lubrication, filter changes, alignments, firmware updates).
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and software faults using schematics, multimeters, and OEM diagnostics.
- Perform calibrated repairs & part replacements; maintain a calibrated tools inventory.
- Run laser-optics, spindle, and temperature calibrations (ISO-17025 traceable).
- Document qualification results and update records.
- Keep real-time service logs in the CMMS.
- Ensure work complies with AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO 45001, and local safety regulations.
- Author and continuously improve SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and “lessons-learned” briefs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced mechanical & electrical troubleshooting (multimeters, oscilloscopes, PLC troubleshooting).
- CNC programming basics (G-code, M-code) and robot cell integration.
- Laser-based additive manufacturing knowledge (powder handling, safety, process parameters).
- Calibration of optics, temperature sensors, and motion systems per ISO standards.
- CMMS/ERP proficiency (asset tagging, work order creation, KPI reporting).
- Strong written & verbal communication; able to convert technical findings into clear action items.
- Proven problem-solving mindset; comfortable applying 5-Why, Fishbone, and RCCA techniques.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Data-driven: experience with Excel, PowerBI, or similar for trend analysis and reporting.
- Familiarity with AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO 45001 compliance requirements.

Compensation
At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels Specialist 3 - Specialist 4 as evaluated through our interview process.
- Specialist Level 3 / S03: $40 - $55
- Specialist Level 4 / S04: $46 - $63

Purpose
Divergent is on the lookout for an adept and driven Service Specialist dedicated to the maintenance and enhancement of our current and forthcoming Additive Manufacturing (AM) equipment. We are committed to setting a new benchmark in aerospace and automotive manufacturing, and we need a proactive team member to help us redefine the future of manufacturing and automation.
The Role
- Maintain, enhance, and operate metal powder bed fusion additive manufacturing machines, ensuring optimal part quality, machine uptime, and production throughput within set schedules.
- Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment to uphold operational efficiency.
- Perform unplanned mechanical and electro-optical repairs, as well as machine optimizations and intra-facility equipment relocations.
- Proficiently diagnose intricate electrical and mechanical issues, meticulously document root causes of failures, and drive effective corrective actions.
- Execute complex optical and mechanical calibration procedures to uphold precision standards.
- Swiftly troubleshoot and rectify mechanical issues to minimize production downtime.
- Work with Programable Logic Controllers (PLCs) for automated systems.
- Communicate machine status effectively, along with estimated repair timelines.
- Conduct routine inspections to preempt potential maintenance requirements.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments to ensure the accuracy of repairs.
- Interpret schematics for troubleshooting purposes.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols.
- Support performance enhancement initiatives within the production department and contribute to continuous improvement and quality programs (e.g., AS9100, IATF 16949, etc.).
- Assist in developing training programs, crafting work instructions, standard operating procedures, and provide guidance to other team members on machine maintenance tasks.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required to meet departmental objectives.
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls.
- A Bachelor's degree in a technical field or Associates degree in a technical field and equivalent maintenance technician work experience. Strong equivalent maintenance technician experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
- Automation and machine control experience with demonstrated troubleshooting capabilities.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair experience.
- Interest and ability to work hands-on with additive technology: working with the machines, systems, and processes in a factory environment.
- Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast paced, startup manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to think and work autonomously when required, and to perform under pressure to logically troubleshoot systems and processes.
- Ability to effectively use a wide variety of hand tools and test equipment
- Proficient verbal and written skills especially related to technical records, documentation, and presentation.
- Solid interpersonal skills, capable of working within a small, growing team and interfacing with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand the production system and the associated constraints.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with metal (or other) Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes and additive manufacturing equipment, such as, SLM Solutions, EOS, RenAM, or Velo3D machines is a plus but not a requirement for consideration.
Work Environment
- The person in this position needs to frequently work in a factory environment to access and repair machinery (up to 100%)
- Ability to walk, kneel, reach, climb, use hands to operate machinery in an industrial production environment, as required.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., as required to execute a repair.
