About the Team
The Semantic Layer team owns the systems that turn dbt models into trusted, reusable business metrics. At the heart of this is MetricFlow — the open-source semantic engine that powers the dbt Semantic Layer. MetricFlow lets data teams define metrics once in code and consume them consistently across BI tools, notebooks, AI agents, and downstream applications.
This team is the steward of MetricFlow as an open-source project: shipping releases, reviewing community contributions, evolving the query compiler, and ensuring it integrates cleanly with the broader dbt ecosystem. You'll work at the intersection of language design, query compilation, and distributed data execution — solving problems that directly shape how thousands of organizations measure their business.
About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Semantic Layer team in Bangalore. You'll be a core contributor to MetricFlow — designing features, optimizing query generation, hardening the open-source codebase, and partnering with the community of contributors and adopters around it. This is a high-ownership role: you'll write production code, drive technical decisions, and help shape the long-term architecture of one of the most important projects in the modern data stack.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain core features of MetricFlow, including metric definitions, query compilation, dimensional modeling, and SQL generation across multiple data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, and others).
- Own MetricFlow as an open-source project — triage issues, review external pull requests, manage releases, and engage the community on GitHub and in Slack.
- Collaborate with engineers across dbt Cloud, dbt Core, and the Semantic Layer service to ensure MetricFlow integrates seamlessly with the rest of the dbt ecosystem.
- Improve performance, reliability, and observability of metric query execution at scale.
- Partner with product, design, and developer-relations teammates to translate customer and community feedback into shipped improvements.
- Write clear technical documentation, RFCs, and design docs that raise the bar for how the team thinks and ships.
- Mentor other engineers through code review, pairing, and technical guidance.
What You'll Need
- Strong professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of shipping production systems.
- Deep proficiency in Python, including modern typing, testing practices, and packaging.
- Strong SQL fundamentals and a working understanding of how analytical query engines and data warehouses execute queries.
- Experience designing systems that involve parsing, compilation, or transformation — for example: query planners, DSL compilers, type systems, or rule-based engines.
- Solid grasp of software design principles: clean APIs, modularity, testability, and backwards compatibility.
- Excellent written and verbal communication — you can explain complex tradeoffs clearly to engineers, PMs, and external community members.
- Experience collaborating in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience contributing to or maintaining a popular open-source project.

Sr Technical Writer
We are looking for a passionate and motivated Senior Technical Writer to join our Product Documentation team as we support the company in achieving top-priority objectives & key results 🚀
Documentation at dbt is both a community asset and a foundational product surface. The Documentation team accelerates product adoption and user success by helping data practitioners learn, explore, and confidently use dbt.
We operate using a docs-as-code and docs-as-a-product approach within an open-source model, partnering closely with Engineering, Product, Developer Experience, and customer-facing teams. By balancing deep product knowledge with a beginner’s lens, we not only create accurate, easy-to-read documentation for humans and bots alike, but also surface insights that drive product improvements.
In this role, you’ll help new users reach their “a-ha” moment faster, support experienced practitioners as they expand into new areas of the ecosystem, and uphold the clarity, accuracy, and trust that our community depends on.

- Identifies and advocates for medium to large docs projects
- Mentors less-senior writers on how to manage their time spent in docs-driven projects alongside new feature ships

Addressing ongoing issues - 20%
- Independently troubleshoots issue requests, and helps less-senior writers learn how to do the same
- Has a solid understanding of when a swathe of issues can be folded into a larger content strategy improvement project instead of addressing each issue singularly
- Independently notices overarching issues in our docs and figures out how to address them
- Focuses on more complex issues, while analyzing data across multiple dimensions to evaluate solutions and drive decisions
- Triages and reviews open source PRs and issues, and alerts the team when these are piling up
Peer reviewing - 15 %
- Provides and explains their insightful and compassionate editorial and technical feedback when reviewing the work of peers
- When providing feedback, consistently notices gaps in pages outside of the pages contained in the pull request they’re reviewing. They evaluate the problem being solved instead of just the pages bening submitted for review.

Required:
- Minimum 5 years writing technical documentation for developer tools, including a solid understanding of version control and single-sourcing content, and experience managing documentation systems.
- Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and carry out complex writing projects with high attention to detail along the way.
- Ability to compassionately give and receive editorial and technical feedback.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, especially when working asynchronously or with a distributed team.

- Experience with dbt or data
- Previous experience as a senior member of a formal documentation team working collaboratively with other writers, editors, and teams.
- Worked asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team

About the Role
Analytics is entering an agentic era.
As a Senior Software Engineer on Agentic Automation & ADLC Systems, you will build the autonomous and assisted agents that operate across the Analytics Development Life Cycle (ADLC) — from requirements to deployment to remediation.
These agents don’t just automate tasks. They reason over enterprise context, act on data products, and leave behind decision memory that improves the system over time.
What You’ll Do
- Build agentic systems that automate analytics workflows across the ADLC
- Design and implement agents for:
- Requirements & intent capture
- Build & validation
- Test & deploy
- Operate, observe, and remediate
- Orchestrate agent workflows using event-driven triggers
- Integrate agents with ingestion and transformation workflows
- Encode governance and decision policies into automation
- Ensure every agent action is explainable, attributable, observable and auditable

What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in backend, platform, or systems engineering

- Hands-on experience building systems with LLMs or agentic systems (practical, production-minded)
- Strong intuition for safety, failure modes, and guardrails, AI observability

About the Role
We are building the next foundational layer of the analytics stack: an Enterprise Context Platform that captures, stores, and exposes organizational decision memory.
As a seasoned engineer on Context Platform Systems, you will architect and build the durable memory substrate that powers agentic analytics workflows. This platform stores not just metadata, but meaning: decisions, intent, rationale, and history — and makes it safely accessible to humans, agents, and applications.
This is a greenfield, high-leverage role with company-level impact.
What You’ll Do
- Prototype apt technical solutions and find best fits for the context engine. Architect and build the core Context Platform
- Design schemas and primitives for Decision Memory and enterprise context
- Own context storage systems (graph, vector, event/time-based)
- Build read/write/query APIs used by agents, products, and external apps
- Design permission-aware, auditable context access
- Ensure the context engine is interoperable, portable, and zero-lock-in by design
- Partner closely with agentic systems engineers and product leadership

- Ability to reason about systems, not just components

We’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineer with GCP, Azure, or AWS expertise to help us build a seamless, reliable platform for the dbt platform across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Over the past year, we’ve designed and operationalized a next-gen cell-based architecture, scaling the dbt platform across all three cloud providers. Now, we’re focused on automation, self-service, and improving developer velocity through better tooling, processes, and infrastructure design.
As an senior engineer on our team, you’ll work on medium projects, helping to refine our platform while ensuring performance, reliability, and a great developer experience. You’ll collaborate across teams, solve real infrastructure challenges, and help shape the future of multi-cloud dbt Cloud.
In this role, you can expect to:
- Design, operate, and support infrastructure systems with parity across tenancy models (single vs multi) and public clouds (AWS, Azure, and GCP) - and work with engineering teams to get their services consistently deployed to those environments
- Bring cloud infrastructure expertise to the team, helping us strengthen and scale our infrastructure as we expand dbt Cloud’s multi-cloud capabilities.
- Help create a great developer experience while working with our close partners in Architecture, Release Engineering, Product Engineering and Security
- Leverage tools and languages such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, Bash, Helm, ArgoCD, Go, and DataDog
- Design and build automation to eliminate manual toil and streamline infrastructure operations at scale
- Identify and implement infrastructure optimizations that reduce cloud spend without sacrificing reliability
- Participate in a balanced on-call rotation in an environment that values continuous improvement, and help to upgrade our tooling and reduce toil
You are a good fit if you have:
- Experience with the clouds, tools, and languages in our stack, especially: AWS\Azure\GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, and Bash
- Solid experience with declarative Infrastructure as Code - ideally with Terraform or a willingness to learn while leveraging your CloudFormation or ARM\Bicep background
- Love to automate tasks
- Worked asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team - and have excellent communication and writing skills
You'll have an edge if you have:
- Prior experience in a multiple cloud environment
- More extensive Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting background

About The Team
dbt Fusion is building the next generation of data execution and connectivity infrastructure, enabling dbt workloads to run efficiently across diverse compute engines and data platforms. As a Senior Engineer on the Fusion Adapters and Connectivity team, you’ll design and ship core abstractions powering how dbt communicates with execution systems — leveraging Rust, Go, Arrow, and emerging open standards. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of systems programming, database internals, and high-visibility open-source development. Your work will shape a foundational platform leveraged across the dbt ecosystem and the broader data community.
You are a good fit if you have:
- Strong programming background in Rust, Go, C++ or similar performance-oriented languages.
- Experience designing or maintaining SDKs, libraries, connectors, or compute/data integration codebases.
- Exposure to data warehouses, query engines, Arrow/columnar ecosystems, or execution runtimes.
- A desire to build foundational platform components that other teams and community members rely on.
- Comfort working in public code review loops, async-first communication, and collaborative RFC processes.
- A mindset grounded in debuggability, reliability, and ownership in ambiguous problem spaces.
In this role, you can expect to:
- Design, build, and maintain Rust-first connectivity layers, execution APIs, and adapter scaffolding.
- Partner with teams building the dbt compiler, semantic layer, and runtime to evolve adapter interfaces and system boundaries.
- Contribute to Arrow/ADBC and other open-source specifications or implementations, strengthening the data ecosystem.
- Own CI, testing frameworks, profiling, error reporting surfaces, and release readiness for Fusion adapters.
- Debug complex interoperability and performance issues across drivers, engines, and compute domains.
- Collaborate with internal and community maintainers to review PRs, write RFCs, and evolve public code architectures.
- Mentor engineers on systems best practices and contribute to shared patterns around resilience, debuggability, and API clarity.
You’ll have an edge if you have:
- Contributed to or interacted with Arrow, ADBC, DuckDB, Presto, DataFusion, Spark, ClickHouse, or similar engines.
- Experience shaping adapter/plugin standards, driver contracts, or architectural interfaces used by others.
- Familiarity with Rust async ecosystems (tokio, tower, tracing) or Go concurrency practices.
- Prior OSS governance experience — triaging issues, reviewing PRs, or working with community maintainers.
- An interest in building developer-experience layers or scaffolding frameworks for adapter authors.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years experience in software engineering, with strong systems-level skills.
- 2+ years working in open-source, SDK, runtime, or low-level integration environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / related field or equivalent experience through industry OSS contributions.
