What We’re Looking For
The Integration Architect, MuleSoft Platform owns Datavant's MuleSoft Anypoint Platform end-to-end: architecture, development standards, vendor management, and the integration patterns that connect enterprise business systems across the organization.
Datavant is leaning into MuleSoft as its enterprise integration layer, connecting financial platforms, CRM environments, HR systems, automation infrastructure, and healthcare data workflows through API-led connectivity. Today, this capability lacks a dedicated owner. Integration knowledge is distributed, patterns are inconsistent, and the platform is under-governed relative to the volume and criticality of data flowing through it. This role closes that gap.
This is not a strategy-only position. The Integration Architect will define integration architecture and governance standards while simultaneously doing hands-on development — building APIs, writing DataWeave transformations, reviewing code, and troubleshooting production issues. The role requires someone equally comfortable whiteboarding an integration strategy with stakeholders and writing the Mule application that implements it.
The role partners closely with the Salesforce Center of Excellence, Finance IT, HR IT, and other departments who consume integrations, translating business requirements into well-architected, reusable API solutions. It also owns the MuleSoft vendor relationship and is responsible for platform health, license optimization, and operational reliability.
What You Will Do
Integration Architecture & Platform Governance
- Own the architecture and governance of Datavant's MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including API-led connectivity standards, reusable asset strategy, and platform administration
- Define and enforce integration design patterns such as API layering (Experience, Process, System), error handling frameworks, logging standards, and security policies, that ensure consistency across all integration delivery
- Establish and maintain the organization's API catalog on Anypoint Exchange, promoting discoverability and reuse to prevent duplicate integrations and point-to-point sprawl
- Lead architectural reviews for new integration requests, ensuring solutions align with enterprise patterns and do not introduce unnecessary complexity or technical debt
- Own platform administration for CloudHub and/or Runtime Fabric: environment provisioning, resource allocation, deployment strategies, and capacity planning
Hands-On Integration Development
- Design and build high-complexity Mule 4 applications, APIs, and connectors in Anypoint Studio, serving as the technical escalation point for the most difficult integration challenges
- Author API specifications (RAML/OAS) following API-first design principles, establishing the contract before implementation begins
- Develop complex DataWeave transformations for data mapping across disparate systems and formats
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Maven, GitHub Actions) for automated MuleSoft testing and deployment
- Perform code reviews across all integration work, enforcing quality standards including MUnit test coverage, error handling, and documentation requirements
Cross-Functional Partnership & Intake Management
- Partner with Product Management and business stakeholders to manage integration intake, assess feasibility, estimate effort, and prioritize the integration backlog against capacity
- Collaborate with the Salesforce Center of Excellence on CRM integration patterns, data synchronization, and event-driven workflows between Salesforce and enterprise systems
- Work with Finance IT on integrations supporting billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting platforms
- Partner with HR IT on people data integrations across HRIS, payroll, and workforce management systems
- Translate business requirements into integration architecture and implementation plans that stakeholders can understand and approve
Vendor Management & Platform Operations
- Own the Salesforce MuleSoft vendor relationship: license management, support escalations, platform roadmap alignment, and renewal strategy
- Monitor platform health, license utilization, and performance metrics, proactively identifying optimization opportunities
- Evaluate platform upgrades, new capabilities, and migration paths, making recommendations grounded in operational impact
- Design monitoring and alerting frameworks using Anypoint Monitoring and enterprise observability tools to ensure proactive issue detection
- Manage incident response for integration failures, ensuring rapid triage and resolution for business-critical data flows
Standards, Enablement & Team Development
- Establish a Center for Enablement approach to integration: documented patterns, reference implementations, onboarding guides, and self-service capabilities that scale integration delivery beyond a single team
- Provide technical mentorship and architectural guidance to integration developers, raising the quality and consistency of delivered work
- Build and maintain integration runbooks, operational documentation, and architectural decision records
- Define and track platform metrics: API reuse rates, deployment frequency, error rates, and time-to-production for new integrations
What You Need to Succeed
- 5+ years in enterprise integration or software engineering, with 5+ years of hands-on MuleSoft development (Mule 4 required)
- 3+ years in a lead, architect, or senior technical role where you owned integration strategy and standards, not just individual project delivery
- Deep expertise in MuleSoft Anypoint Platform: Anypoint Studio, API Manager, Exchange, Design Center, CloudHub, and Runtime Fabric
- Strong command of API-led connectivity methodology and the ability to articulate and enforce it across an organization
- Advanced DataWeave proficiency and experience with complex transformation scenarios across diverse data formats (JSON, XML, CSV, EDI, HL7)
- Demonstrated experience building CI/CD pipelines for MuleSoft deployments with automated testing (MUnit)
- Experience managing vendor relationships, including license optimization, support escalations, and platform roadmap alignment
- Strong cross-functional communication skills. Effective translating between technical architecture and business requirements with stakeholders in finance, CRM, HR, and product
- Experience operating in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments (healthcare, life sciences, or financial services)
- Track record of establishing integration governance and standards that improved quality and consistency without creating bottlenecks

What We’re Looking For:
As a Staff Data Engineer at Datavant, you will lead the design and build of our next-generation patient data platform, developing the distributed data systems and platform capabilities that power secure, scalable, and intelligent use of data across a multi-tenant, multi-cloud environment.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for a software-oriented data engineer who combines strong architectural judgment with deep implementation expertise. You will define how complex data is processed, validated, and served—supporting analytics, product, and AI-driven use cases in a regulated environment.
What You Will Do:
- Lead the architecture and development of core data platform capabilities, including processing frameworks, storage patterns, and shared services
- Design and implement multi-tenant, multi-cloud data systems with strong isolation, scalability, and operational durability
- Build and operate large-scale distributed data processing systems across batch and real-time workloads
- Define and evolve data lifecycle patterns, including ingestion, validation, transformation, enrichment, and serving
- Establish data quality gates and validation frameworks to ensure trust, consistency, and auditability
- Design systems that integrate with platform infrastructure, including CI/CD, deployment orchestration, observability, and infrastructure automation
- Make sound architectural decisions across performance, cost, reliability, and maintainability tradeoffs

Technical Experience:
- Strong candidates will have experience with several of the following:

- 10+ years of experience building data-intensive or distributed systems, with a strong software engineering foundation
- Proven experience designing and operating large-scale data platforms in production
- Deep expertise in distributed data processing systems (e.g., Spark or similar big data technologies)
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, CI/CD, and production debugging
- Experience building systems in cloud environments (AWS preferred), including storage, compute, and security patterns
- Experience designing multi-tenant systems, with a focus on isolation, scalability, and reliability
- Strong understanding of data modeling, pipeline design, and data quality enforcement
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, evaluate tradeoffs, and drive durable technical decisions
- Track record of being a high-impact, hands-on contributor who leads through both design and execution

We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead our Clinical Data Platform organization, responsible for building and operating the systems that power our Clinical Data Repository (CDR), Patient Data Layer (PDL), and broader clinical data initiatives.
This is a technical leadership role for a hands-on, deeply experienced engineering leader who can operate across software engineering, data/ML engineering, and cloud infrastructure. You will define and drive the architecture, execution strategy, and operational excellence of a multi-tenant, multi-cloud clinical data platform that processes and serves highly sensitive healthcare data at scale.

What You Will Do:
Technical Strategy & Architecture
- Own the technical vision and roadmap for the Clinical Data Platform. Drive architecture for multi-tenant, multi-cloud data platforms, ensuring strong isolation, scalability, and compliance

Familiarity with multi-account and multi-region architectures and multi-cloud patterns
- Infrastructure & Reliability: Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or equivalent), CI/CD integration, observability (metrics, logs, tracing), and building resilient, cost-efficient production systems

The VP of Data & ML Platforms is a senior executive accountable for the strategy, architecture, and delivery of Datavant's enterprise data and ML platform.
This role owns the full data stack, from ingestion and storage through governance, compute, and AI/ML enablement, ensuring that Datavant's data assets are architecturally sound, well-governed, and positioned to scale through organic growth and acquisition.
This is not a governance-only position. The VP sets architectural direction, makes definitive technology decisions, and builds a high-performing engineering organization capable of operating at enterprise scale in a regulated healthcare environment. The role has authority over data platform architecture, governance standards, and AI infrastructure strategy, and is accountable for reliability, architecture maturity, governance adoption, and integration readiness
Key Responsibilities
Data Platform Architecture & Strategy
- Own the long-term enterprise data architecture, including the evolution of the company's data lake, cloud data warehouse, and clinical compute environments
- Drive and enforce a compute-agnostic platform strategy—where data lives in governed storage and multiple engines can query it without creating siloed copies
- Establish and mature dataset contracts, schema governance, and versioning standards that enable domain teams to evolve independently without breaking downstream consumers
- Make and communicate architecture decisions across catalog, ingestion, transformation, and compute
- Own data platform cost governance, ensuring infrastructure spend is transparent, attributable, and aligned with business value
Data Governance & Quality
- Establish formal data governance at enterprise scale, including ownership models, access controls, lineage, data quality standards, and compliance frameworks appropriate to healthcare (HIPAA, SOC 2, FedRAMP readiness)
- Own the metadata and governance layer, ensuring it is well-adopted across the organization, aligned with the broader catalog strategy, and portable rather than locked to a single vendor
- Drive data quality as an engineering discipline, embedding checks, monitoring, and accountability into platform and domain workflows.
- Ensure data access, permissioning, and change management processes are scalable and do not become bottlenecks to engineering velocity
AI & ML Infrastructure Enablement
- Own the AI/ML infrastructure layer, model training environments, compute provisioning (CPU/GPU), model deployment and serving frameworks, and MLOps tooling
- Ensure the data platform is AI-ready: well-cataloged, semantically rich, and accessible to data science and ML engineering teams across the organization
- Partner with business units and product teams to enable AI-driven workflows and analytics products by providing reliable, governed data foundations and scalable compute infrastructure
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop the data engineering organization, spanning data platform infrastructure, clinical data engineering, data integration, ML platform, and data operations
- Assess organizational structure and talent against the demands of the platform at scale, making changes where necessary to ensure the right people are in the right roles
- Build a culture of architectural ownership, engineering rigor, and operational accountability
- Represent data platform and AI infrastructure strategy at the executive level, shaping investment priorities and contributing to enterprise technology strategy

Requirements
- 15+ years in technology leadership, with at least 5 years in a VP or senior director role leading enterprise data platform or data engineering organizations
- Proven track record building and scaling data platforms in complex, high-growth environments, ideally through periods of significant M&A activity
- Deep architectural expertise across the modern data stack: open table formats, cloud data warehouses, streaming infrastructure, transformation frameworks, and metadata/governance tooling
- Experience establishing data governance programs at enterprise scale, including ownership models, data quality frameworks, lineage, and access controls
- Strong understanding of AI/ML infrastructure, model training, serving, MLOps, and how data platform maturity enables AI adoption
- Experience leading in regulated or compliance-heavy environments (healthcare, life sciences, or financial services)
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a peer-level leader, credible with engineers, effective with executives, capable of making definitive architectural decisions under ambiguity
- Experience leading geographically distributed engineering teams
- Strong cost management instinct, able to balance platform investment against operational efficiency and budget constraints
