CJA operates a Supervised Release Program in Queens Criminal Court. The program, which operates during the day and night court in Queens, screens targeted defendants for release at criminal court arraignment, subject to specific conditions including maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with the program, participating in an assessment process to identify needs such as substance use and mental health, and agreeing to program monitoring of court appearances and re-arrests.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, knowledgeable individual, experienced in dealing with high-needs populations such as those with mental health diagnoses, at-risk youth, and others with social, emotional or developmental challenges, who have criminal court involvement. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Clinical Case Manager’s functions include:

• Reviewing with participants the conditions of release, program agreement, and consents for disclosure
• Conducting an intake/assessment interview to identify participants’ needs, including administering various evidence-based assessment tools to identify possible mental health and/or substance abuse problems
• Responsible for monitoring a caseload of high risk and high needs program participants, providing supervision and making referrals to voluntary social service interventions 
• Verifying participant contact information, applicable activities and responsibilities to assign participants to a designated level of supervision
• Maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with participants, monitoring re-arrests, and preparing written progress reports for court
• Maintaining communication with defense attorneys, and referral agencies until transfer or completion of reporting responsibilities
• Updating computerized case management appointments accordingly to produce periodic reports on participant compliance
• Complete all necessary documentation and maintain all data set reporting requirements in the agency database
• Appearing and advocating in court regarding participants’ compliance as necessary
• Actively participate in staff meetings and ongoing trainings; identify new opportunities for staff development

QUALIFICATIONS

• MSW or relevant Masters degree required with + 3 years of related experience
• Knowledge of NYC Court Operations, preferred
• LMSW, LCSW or LMHC preferred

PROGRAM SUMMARY

CJA operates a Supervised Release Program in Queens Criminal Court for defendants of all ages who are charged with felonies and misdemeanors, and who present a substantial likelihood of detention, but are at risk of failing to appear in court if released on recognizance.

The program, which operates during the day and night court, screens targeted defendants for release, subject to specific conditions including maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with the program, participating in a screening protocol for substance abuse and mental health issues, and agreeing to program monitoring and reporting of non-compliance, re-arrests and scheduled court appearances.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Supervising Clinical Case Manager and under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Case Manager is a dynamic, knowledgeable, and experienced individual with a social service, psychology, or clinical background to help make an impact on the ever-changing role of the court system and alternative initiatives aimed at reducing detention and crime rates in the city. The Case Manager hired for this position will be working on a team that serves both youth and adult clients (ages 16 years and older). The Case Manager in this role will be responsible for building relationships with participants and their support systems. In building these relationships, the Case Manager will coach and connect people with resources to meet their unique needs, such as education and employment programs, career assessments, job readiness, and other opportunities aligned with their personal goals and interests.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Case Manager’s functions include:

Client Needs Assessments:

• Conducting the intake/assessment interview to identify participants’ immediate needs, including risk factors for recidivism.
• Assessing for mental health and substance abuse problems, making outside referrals as appropriate.
• Working with people to explore interests and create plans to take steps towards meeting goals.
• Assessing for school and/or job readiness and connecting young participants to quality school and job programming, vocational trainings, technical skills classes or other certification programs, as well as peer support services, based on their personal interests and goals.
• Verifying participant contact information and age-appropriate activities and responsibilities to assign to participants at a designated level of supervision.

Client Engagement:

• Build relationships with program participants ages 16 years and older
• Identify and collaborate with support systems, such as guardians and significant, in participant’s life.
• Reviewing with participants the conditions of release, program agreement, and consents for disclosure
• Maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with participants, monitoring re-arrests, and preparing on-calendar and off-calendar reports for court.
• Utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, including using the use of interactive journaling, in applicable sessions.
• Run psychoeducational and supportive psychotherapeutic groups for participants ages 16-24 years old.
• Motivating participants to engage in voluntary services.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Updating computerized case management appointments accordingly to produce periodic reports on participant’s compliance.
• Writing formal progress reports for each court date, in accordance with program requirements and quality standards; advocate for graduated sanctions for eligible clients.
• Completing all necessary documentation and maintaining all data set reporting requirements in the program’s case management database

Teamwork and Relationship Building:

• Maintaining professional communication with defense attorneys, Assistant District Attorneys, and referral agencies until transfer or completion of reporting responsibilities
• Appearing and advocating in court regarding participants’ compliance as necessary
• Participating in clinical supervision, case conference meetings, staff meetings, and on-service trainings; identify new opportunities for staff development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or other related field
• 2 years of experience in case management; at least 1 of those years working with an adolescent population.
• Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours, as operations expand.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of NYC Court Operations

The Queens Supervised Release Program is the first program launched by the City of New York’s Supervised Release Initiative in 2009 and is the model for which Supervised Release Programs have evolved citywide.

CJA operates the QSRP in Queens Criminal Court seven days a week, during both the day and night court. The program serves individuals of all ages who are released at criminal court arraignments, who are charged with felonies and misdemeanors, and who present a substantial likelihood of detention but are at risk of failing to appear in court if released on recognizance. QSRP provides pretrial supervision and voluntary social service referrals to a wide array of community-based organizations which offer services including job training, employment, substance misuse treatment, and mental health counseling. Participants remain in the community and are monitored to ensure they attend all court appearances and avoid rearrest with the goal of successful reconnection to their community.

POSITION SUMMARY

Court Representatives are the first point of contact with CJA services. They coordinate release with court partners, orient newly released participants, and present program eligibility and obligations to both court stakeholders and participants.

The Day Shift QSRP Court Representative role is based at Queens Criminal Court during arraignment hours. This role serves as primary CJA contact during night arraignments and provides critical support to participants following a highly challenging period- immediately following arrest, detention and arraignment. This position works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of court representatives, court-based social workers, and acts as a vital link between the court and the CJA Case Management team. Success in this role requires the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, both independently and within a team structure.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Screen court calendars, court related documents and Office of Court Administration (OCA) databases to identify prospective clients, including high-risk/high needs participants, pending arraignment.
• Appear during subsequent court dates to provide updates to the Court, connect with participants, and collect court-related information regarding any updated conditions or mandates imposed post-arraignment.
• Maintain strong professional relationships with night shift personnel including defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and court officers to maintain CJA credibility.  
• Collect and organize all court documents needed for case records.
• Orient new participants immediately following arraignment ensuring they understand the conditions of their Supervised Release mandate, court conditions and responsibilities through a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach.
• Conduct comprehensive orientation intakes for newly released participants, flagging risk factors, immediate needs, and behavioral health concerns. Provide crisis support, as needed.
• Distributing metro-cards and/or cell phones to clients as needed and maintaining accurate documentation for these processes.
• Collaborate with CJA case management, Program Analyst, and daytime Court Representatives teams to ensure seamless transition and comprehensive participant information sharing.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation in database case record and court tracking systems including entering participants demographics, contact information, court-imposed conditions, special circumstances, and next court proceeding information.
• Track program compliance for participants who have been rearrested, via case manager and provide verbal compliance updates to the courts at arraignment, as requested.
• Appear during subsequent court dates to provide compliance updates to the Court and collect information regarding any updated conditions or mandates imposed post-arraignment.
• Participate in regular team meetings, supervision and professional trainings identified by management
• Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervising Court Representatives and Senior Manager of Court Operations.

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree, required.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working withing the criminal legal system, direct service delivery or working with those impacted by the legal system. Current CJA employees with at least 2 years of experience as a Pretrial Associate or Court Services Coordinator are encouraged to apply
• Ability to obtain Office of Court Administration (OCA) Secure Pass for court access
• Strong understanding of the criminal legal system, including its structure, procedures, and NYS bail reform statutes, with the ability to explain those processes- such as bail proceedings, court appearance, orders of protection- to justice impacted individuals in a clear and accessible way.
• Knowledge of trauma informed principles and ability to support individuals in acute distress
• Experience working with individuals impacted by the legal system, unhoused or have behavioral health needs.
• Excellent communication skills with the strong ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
• Detail oriented, thorough and accurate in completion of all documentation
• Computer proficiency in entering participant’s information into databases with the ability to quickly adapt to changing technology
• Ability to effectively navigate and use Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook.
• Proficient in the use of video technology to virtually appear in court as needed

Position Summary 

The Peer Coordinator reports directly to the Peer Supervisor and supports all peer team coordination tasks and administrative duties. The Peer Coordinator is also responsible for providing holistic, person-centered support and mentorship to a team of Peer Specialists. The Peer Coordinator also facilitates internal and external wellness and recovery groups for staff and program participants. They will also serve as the direct liaison between external organizations and the peer staff when helping clients understand the benefits of referrals being made. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

In this role, you will report directly to the Peer Supervisor. You will be tasked with the following responsibilities: 

• Provide support and mentorship to a team of Certified Peer Specialist. 

• Support the Peer Supervisor with all team coordination and administrative duties, including review and assignment of Peer referrals and re-arrest/mandatory programming/weapons charges cases. The Peer Coordinator will serve as acting Peer Supervisor in the Supervisor’s absence. 

• Conduct internal program chart reviews on a quarterly basis, as well as capturing data and tracking outcomes of referrals and assignments. 

• Support the Peer Supervisor in the development and facilitation of evidence-based groups, training, and team-building activities to increase team engagement and development. Will also assist with the onboarding of new Peer staff. 

• Assist in ensuring the team is adhering to all QSRP and agency policies and procedures 

• Will be responsible for managing a small caseload of participants with complex needs requiring experienced Peer support on a case-by-case basis. Provide advocacy, outreach and engagement, referral assistance, self-help tools, recovery support, transitional support, and pre-crisis/crisis support in office, community, or virtual settings (i.e., telephonic support, video calls/chats, etc.) 

QUALIFICATIONS 

• HS Diploma is required. Some college preferred. 

• OASAS/OMH Peer Specialist Certification (either fully NYS Certified Peer Specialist or Certified Recovery Peer Advocate) required. Those with a CPS would be expected to get CRPA within one year of hire. Those with s CRPA would be expected to get CPS within one year. 

• 3 years of professional experience as a Peer Specialist, Peer Advocate, or Peer Counselor in a Behavioral Health or Criminal Justice setting required. Experience providing community-based Peer support to underserved communities and populations required. 

• History of lived experience in recovery and/or the criminal justice system required. As an individual who actively participates in their own recovery from mental illness and/or substance use, must be willing to appropriately and effectively utilize their recovery experience to engage and support others 

• Strong knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply person-centered, recovery-oriented practices and principles 

• Strong proficiency in using computer software applications such as Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), email, web browser and database/file management systems required 

• Experience with online communication tools such as video conferencing (Teams, Zoom, etc.), chat, and collaboration software required 

• Certification in Wellness and Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) and Intentional Peer Support (IPS) preferred 

• Knowledge of NYC Court Operations, preferred

Hours & Scheduling Expectations 

This is a visible role with direct client-facing responsibilities, engaging with clients, staff, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will possess the required qualifications and skills, and the ability to work in person 5 days a week. 

• Hours for this role will be: Monday-Friday 9-5 

• Flex hours will be occasionally required to perform client visits either in their homes, or at community-based locations.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a Peer Supervisor, The Peer Specialist will provide person-centered, recovery-oriented, strength-based, and trauma-informed Peer support for clients who met the eligibility criteria of high-risk and high needs and require a support team to meet with them where they are at regardless of their location in NYC. The Peer Specialist is dedicated to promoting wellness and supporting recovery journeys within the community.  As an essential part of and integrated and multi-disciplinary Clinical Services Department at Queens Supervised Release, the Peer Specialist aims to empower clients in enhancing their mental health, fostering resilience, and facilitating their path to recovery and wellness. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• As part of an interdisciplinary team of Peer Specialists, Behavioral Health Specialists, Licensed Clinicians, Clinical Care Coordinators and Housing Specialist    , the Peer Specialist will be responsible for managing a caseload of 10-15 high-needs (serious mental illness, substance use, homelessness) participants at a time, providing face-to-face community-based Peer counseling. 
• Provide court-based Peer support to participants upon their release from arraignment to Supervised Release. Identify immediate needs or concerns and facilitate immediate connections to community-based services. 
• Engage with participants within community settings to offer emotional support, guidance, advocacy, assistance in navigating care systems, accompany them to court dates, and build trust and rapport.
• Coordinate with assigned case management staff and other service providers to review participants' release conditions. The Queens Supervised Release Program is the first program launched by the City of New York’s Supervised Release Initiative in 2009 and is the model for which Supervised Release Programs have evolved citywide.

CJA operates the QSRP in Queens Criminal Court seven days a week, during both the day and night court. The program serves individuals of all ages who are released at criminal court arraignments, who are charged with felonies and misdemeanors, and who present a substantial likelihood of detention but are at risk of failing to appear in court if released on recognizance. QSRP provides pretrial supervision and voluntary social service referrals to a wide array of community-based organizations which offer services including job training, employment, substance misuse treatment, and mental health counseling. Participants remain in the community and are monitored to ensure they attend all court appearances and avoid rearrest with the goal of successful reconnection to their community.

POSITION SUMMARY

Court Representatives are the first point of contact with CJA services. They coordinate release with court partners, orient newly released participants, and present program eligibility and obligations to both court stakeholders and participants.

The Night Shift QSRP Court Representative role is based at Queens Criminal Court during evening and weekend arraignment hours (Wednesdays through Sunday, 5pm to 1am). This role serves as primary CJA contact during night arraignments and provides critical support to participants following a highly challenging period- immediately following arrest, detention and arraignment. This position works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of court representatives, court-based social workers, and acts as a vital link between the court and the CJA Case Management team. Success in this role requires the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, both independently and within a team structure.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Screen court calendars, court related documents and Office of Court Administration (OCA) databases to identify prospective clients, including high-risk/high needs participants, pending arraignment.
• Appear at night arraignments (including weekends and holidays) to provider Supervised release program information, eligibility criteria and obligations to courts, including responding to on-the-record questions regarding re-arrest and CJA pre-trial Release Assessments.
• Maintain strong professional relationships with night shift personnel including defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and court officers to maintain CJA credibility.  
• Collect and organize all court documents needed for case records.
• Orient new participants immediately following arraignment ensuring they understand the conditions of their Supervised Release mandate, court conditions and responsibilities through a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach.
• Conduct comprehensive orientation intakes for newly released participants, flagging risk factors, immediate needs, and behavioral health concerns. Provide crisis support, as needed.
• Distributing metro-cards and/or cell phones to clients as needed and maintaining accurate documentation for these processes.
• Collaborate with CJA case management, Program Analyst, and daytime Court Representatives teams to ensure seamless transition and comprehensive participant information sharing.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation in database case record and court tracking systems including entering participants demographics, contact information, court-imposed conditions, special circumstances, and next court proceeding information.
• Track program compliance for participants who have been rearrested, via case manager and provide verbal compliance updates to the courts at arraignment, as requested.
• Appear during subsequent court dates to provide compliance updates to the Court and collect information regarding any updated conditions or mandates imposed post-arraignment.
• Participate in regular team meetings, supervision and professional trainings identified by management
• Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervising Court Representatives and Senior Manager of Court Operations.

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree, required.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working withing the criminal legal system, direct service delivery or working with those impacted by the legal system. Current CJA employees with at least 2 years of experience as a Pretrial Associate or Court Services Coordinator are encouraged to apply
• Ability to obtain Office of Court Administration (OCA) Secure Pass for court access
• Strong understanding of the criminal legal system, including its structure, procedures, and NYS bail reform statutes, with the ability to explain those processes- such as bail proceedings, court appearance, orders of protection- to justice impacted individuals in a clear and accessible way.
• Knowledge of trauma informed principles and ability to support individuals in acute distress
• Experience working with individuals impacted by the legal system, unhoused or have behavioral health needs.

PROGRAM SUMMARY 

CJA operates a Supervised Release Program in Queens Criminal Court. The program, which operates during the day and night court in Queens, screens targeted defendants for release at criminal court arraignment, subject to specific conditions including maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with the program, participating in an assessment process to identify needs such as substance use and mental health, and agreeing to program monitoring of court appearances and re-arrests.

POSITION SUMMARY  

Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Services I and under the direction of the Associate Director of Clinical Services II, the Clinical Supervisor is a dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced individual with a social service, psychology, or clinical background to help make an impact on the ever-changing role of the court system and alternative initiatives aimed at reducing detention and crime rates in the city. The Clinical Supervisor will oversee a team of bachelors and master's level case managers working with youth and adult clients (ages 16 years and older). The person filling this role will be responsible for providing both clinical and administrative oversight to the team in ensuring that services are being delivered appropriately and comprehensively, as well as providing supervision to a small caseload of high needs participants that are involved in the criminal justice system.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Oversee a team of social workers and case managers to provide supervision and services to a population of justice-impacted individuals.
• Supervise and coach the team’s Clinical Compliance Specialist to provide the team with support in auditing, compliance, and quality assurance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinating care, treatment and services within multiple health care systems including public health insurance and Medicaid entitlements.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree required and minimum of two years’ experience working with clients who have needs in the areas of mental health, substance use, trauma, violence risk, homelessness, frequent psychiatric hospitalizations, and criminal justice involvement, as a care coordinator, navigator or similar role.
• Experience must include demonstrated success at assessing, executing, and advocating care plans which help clients navigate service, follow through on referrals and linkages in the community, and ongoing documentation of client monitoring, and progress.
• Alternate Requirement: Candidates without a Bachelor’s Degree must have 5 years' experience working with clients who have needs in the areas of mental health, substance use, trauma, violence risk, homelessness, frequent psychiatric hospitalizations, and criminal justice involvement plus.

The New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) is a not-for-profit service and research organization that operates in partnership with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice.  CJA is the City’s main pretrial services agency, combining operations, pilot projects, and research under one roof.  CJA utilizes procedural justice practices to provide pretrial services to over 100,000 persons arrested annually in New York City. PROGRAM SUMMARY 

CJA operates a Supervised Release Program in Queens Criminal Court. The program, which operates during the day and night court in Queens, screens targeted defendants for release at criminal court arraignment, subject to specific conditions including maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with the program, participating in an assessment process to identify needs such as substance use and mental health, and agreeing to program monitoring of court appearances and re-arrests. 

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, knowledgeable individual, experienced in dealing with high-needs populations such as those with mental health diagnoses, at-risk youth, and others with social, emotional, or developmental challenges, who have criminal court involvement. This position will work with participants aged 16 and older. 

Position Summary 

Reporting to the ICM Clinical Supervisor, and under the direction of the Associate Director of Clinical Services II for ICM, the Clinical Case Manager I is a dynamic, knowledgeable, and experienced individual with a background in social services seeking to help make an impact on the court system and alternative initiatives aimed at reducing detention and crime rates in the city. The Clinical Case Manager I on the ICM team will be working on a team that serves both youth and adult clients (ages 16 and up) who have enhanced needs such as mental health and substance use issues, and developmental disabilities, housing instability, and others who are less likely to make it to their court appearances. This role is primarily community based, requiring travel in Queens and other boroughs, but will include some work directly in the Queens Criminal Court as well as our case management offices in Kew Gardens and Long Island City.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Clinical Case Manager I in ICM functions include:

• Reviewing with participants the conditions of release, program agreement, and consents for disclosure.
• Conducting an intake/assessment interview to identify needs, including administering various evidence-based assessment tools to identify possible mental health and/or substance abuse concerns for individuals who are aged 16 and older. 
• Monitoring a caseload of high risk and high needs youth and adult participants, providing supervision, and making referrals to voluntary social service interventions. 
• Verifying participant contact information, general location (if unhoused), contacts at other programs, and current supervision level/reporting requirements. Maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with participants, monitoring re-arrests, and preparing written progress reports for court.
• Meeting with clients in the community as needed. This would include, but not be limited to completing their appointments in the community, accompanying them to referrals, and attending court dates.
• Maintaining communication with defense attorneys and referral agencies until transfer or completion of reporting responsibilities.
• Updating computerized case management appointments accordingly to produce periodic reports on participant compliance.
• Completing all necessary documentation in a timely manner and maintaining all data set reporting requirements in the agency database.
• Appearing and advocating in court regarding participants’ compliance, as necessary.
• Actively participate in staff meetings and ongoing trainings; identify new opportunities for staff development.

Client Centered Management and Communication  

• Communicating and coordinating with staff comprised of diverse identities, experiences, and professional disciplines in a respectful manner that acknowledges differences, expertise, and experiences to promote collaboration and better client outcomes.
• Communicating with clients of diverse populations, needs, and experiences in the justice system and other institutions in a respectful manner that acknowledges lived experiences and creates connection.
• Answering questions about our services in an informed and well-resourced way; directing clients and community members to resources by making appropriate referrals.
• Ensuring that clients are being supported in a timely manner, through careful assessment and the use of evidence-based tools.

 Influencing and Motivating 

• Ability to work intensively with clients using goal-based interventions to create behavioral changes.
• Supporting the client’s self-efficacy by reinforcing their power to make the changes that they want.

QUALIFICATIONS  

• MSW or relevant master’s degree required with 2 years of related case management experience.
• Knowledge of NYC Court Operations preferred.
• Experience serving clients in the community preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a Peer Supervisor, the Peer Support Specialist (PSS) provides non-clinical, trauma-informed, and person-centered support to individuals mandated to participate in the Queens Supervised Release program. Drawing upon their own experiences with the justice system, recovery, or reentry, the PSS builds authentic relationships that foster trust, engagement, and personal growth. The PSS serves as a role model for recovery, resilience, and reintegration, and works collaboratively with case managers, clinicians, and/or behavioral health specialists, housing specialists, and legal system partners to reduce recidivism and support client success.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• As part of an interdisciplinary team the Peer Specialist will be responsible for supporting a caseload of 15–20 high-needs (serious mental illness, substance use, homelessness) participants at a time, providing face-to-face, telephonic, and community Peer recovery support and advocacy.
• Establish supportive, peer-based relationships grounded in trust, mutual respect, and shared experience
• Provide one-on-one peer mentoring, advocacy, and emotional support to program participants
• Assist participants in identifying goals related to housing, employment, wellness, sobriety, and social connection
• Accompany participants to court appearances, community appointments, or service referrals as needed
• Support participants in navigating court requirements, probation/parole expectations, and community service obligations
• Provide court-based Peer support to participants upon completion of arraignment, identifying immediate needs or concerns, and facilitating immediate connections to community-based services 
• Facilitate or co-facilitate peer-led groups focused on recovery, emotional regulation, life skills, and reentry planning
• Collaborate with case managers and legal advocates to ensure participant needs and preferences are understood and honored
• Participate in regular supervision, peer development meetings, and trainings related to harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and justice-system navigation
• Document participant engagement and progress in a timely manner in an electronic case management system in accordance with program guidelines and confidentiality requirements
• Uphold ethical guidelines, competencies, and boundaries appropriate to peer support roles

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• HS Diploma or equivalency required 
• NYS Peer Specialist certification (CPS) OR Recovery Peer Advocate certification (CRPA) required. Certification must be maintained and kept current while employed in this position.
• 2 years of professional experience as a Peer Specialist, Peer Advocate, Peer Navigator, or Peer Counselor in a Behavioral Health or Criminal Justice setting required
• Personal lived experience with the criminal legal system and/or recovery from substance use, mental health, or homelessness
• Ability to model recovery-oriented practices
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain boundaries and practice cultural humility
• Familiarity with community-based resources including housing, treatment, employment services, and legal supports
• Proficiency in using computer software applications such as Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), email, web browser and database/file management systems required 
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working or volunteering in peer support, reentry programs, harm reduction, or behavioral health settings
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and restorative justice principles
• Bilingual or multilingual (especially Spanish, if applicable to your region)

• Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required
• Peer Support Specialists must be able to model wellness and uphold recovery principles in challenging environments
