 Role Overview  

 As our Staff Machine Learning Engineer for Coupang Media Group, Ads Quality, you will be responsible for developing, designing machine learning models, optimization algorithms and new product features for our advertising platform.   

The Coupang Media Group (CMG) is responsible for providing vendors that sell their products on Coupang with a host of marketing products and services.   Our group is responsible for advertising brands and products inside our e-commerce website. 

This is an opportunity to be part of building up a new development organization with strong revenue potential inside a successful company. We’re building full-stack engineering teams to handle large scale advertising problems, including real-time behavioral targeting, auctioning and bidding systems and search-based advertising.    

In this role you will be responsible for innovating and building our new ad quality stack for our ads platform and eventually extend it into a full ad exchange, DSP, and SSP. 

What You Will do  

• Design features and build large-scale machine learning models and systems to improve ad targeting, relevance, ranking, and engagement   
• Develop new techniques for automated mechanisms, e.g. automated bidding, query expansion etc. for improving advertising platform efficiency
• Develop new techniques for providing suggestions for advertisers to identify opportunities in the marketplace and improve their return on investments
• Architect our machine learning platform at internet scale   
• Effectively lead projects across teams and mentor the junior developers  
• Work with product and sales teams to design and implement new ad product features   

Basic Qualifications  

• 8+ years of industry software engineering experience in machine learning, statistics, information retrieval   
• Deep knowledge in machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling  
• Excellent communicator, both to technical and business audiences

Pay & Benefits   

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.  

The base pay for this position ranges from $142,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $309,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Role Overview

Coupang Ads is responsible for providing vendors that sell their products on Coupang with a host of marketing products and services. We launched the Product Ads performance advertising marketplace in late 2018.  We have grown rapidly into a multi-billion USD ads business over the past few years, and we continue to grow fast. Role Overview

The Coupang Ads is the advertising platform team within Coupang.  We are a globally distributed team focused on delivering advertising solutions for those that sell products on our platform.  This includes display, search, performance, brand and video ads offerings. 

The Coupang Ads Product Analytics team maximizes revenue from Coupang advertising solutions and helps our user get value from ads. We are responsible for helping drive product strategy across entire ads business. We bring data together to generate actionable insights, answer complex business questions, and help us deepen our understanding of Customers. Our focus is on Coupang’s ads business on Ecommerce, and we do this by analyzing KPI’s, analyzing the success of A/B and multivariate testing initiatives.

What You Will Do

As a Staff Data Scientist at Coupang Ads, you will be responsible for :

• Product and Monetization strategy: develop and test various auction and monetization models. Provide simulations of the possible impact of changes to be introduced on revenue 
• Metrics: deliver a set of Key Performance Indicators, used for reporting on product adoption, usage, performance, and churn. Provide visibility into the effectiveness of the group’s monetization efforts 
• Forecasting: design and maintain inventory and revenue forecasting models as a critical component of the revenue optimization process. Assist with analyzing sales patterns to identify trends and aid financial forecasting 
• A/B Testing: design, conduct, analyze and uncover insights from A/B tests to inform and prioritize product iterations. Do this with statistical rigor and perform cohort studies to answer “why?” on test result drivers
• Tell a Concise Story: At completion of Tests, build timely, compelling, fact-based test recaps that strongly communicate the business ‘story’ behind the data and test outcomes.

Basic Qualifications 

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math or a closely related field 

• 4 years of Data Scientist experience in customer-facing technology companies 

• Expertise in experimentation and statistics 

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate has 6+ years of experience as a data scientist performing ads data analysis, ML model building and optimization, financial analysis, market research, and executive reporting. 

• Previous experience in AdTech / Advertising (search, display, branding, retargeting, social, streaming video…), Digital Marketing, Ad Agency, or related domains. 
• Strong SQL  
• Python or R for statistical analysis
• Hive, Presto, Airflow
• Experience with ML modeling design, deployment, and optimization
• Strong statistics background 
• Experience in working on backend and ML systems for large-scale user-facing products
• Data visualization (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, Looker, Power BI)

Pay & Benefits 

Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. 

The base pay for this position ranges from $152,000/year to $261,000/year. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
