In this role, you’ll be trained to investigate, evaluate, and resolve medical-only claims while delivering the high‑quality service our clients expect.

No insurance experience? No problem. We will teach you the technical side — what matters most is your ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and take ownership of your work.

Responsibilities
As a Claims Administrator, you will manage a caseload of medical-only Workers’ Compensation claims from start to finish. Your core responsibilities include:

• Reviewing and evaluating medical-only claims to understand what occurred
• Communicating with injured workers, medical providers, and clients
• Documenting claim activity accurately and consistently following CBCS Best Practices
• Making timely decisions within your assigned authority to resolve claims efficiently
• Submitting required state EDI filings and supporting Medicare compliance
• Identifying when a claim should be upgraded for further investigation or lost‑time consideration
• Evaluating potential subrogation opportunities and escalating when appropriate
• Meeting performance benchmarks for contact, reserving, and claim closure

Workers Compensation Claims Adjuster (California Experience Required)

Location: Work from Home (Must be located in California)

Who says you can't have it all? Cottingham & Butler Claims Services (CBCS) is offering the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and exciting position with NO commute! You will be working from home so previous workers compensation adjusting experience is required (i.e. taking statements, paying lost wage benefits, filing state forms, denying claims, subrogation, litigation, etc.).

As a Work Comp Adjuster, you will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling workers compensation claims on behalf of our clients. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, be detail-oriented, and possess a strong understanding of workers compensation laws and regulations. You will be communicating with a wide variety of individuals, to include CEO's, claimants, providers offices, and attorneys. Experience handling claims in multiple jurisdictions is vital for success in this role.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year experience as a workers compensation claims adjuster.
• License/state experience in California and your SIP.
• Demonstrated knowledge of workers compensation laws and regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Proficiency in computer programs, including Microsoft Office and claims management software.

Key Expectations for the Claims Supervisor Role:

• Accountability and Feedback: Ensure that the team receives regular, high-quality feedback to drive accountability.
• Team Metrics: Maintain weekly metrics in the green. If a team member is not meeting expectations, develop and document plans with the Claims Manager to improve performance.
• Quality Service Review (QSR) Scores: Achieve monthly QSR scores of 90%+ for the team and address any underperformance with actionable plans.
• Monthly Meetings: Arrange monthly meetings with the team to align on goals, discuss challenges, provide training, and foster collaboration.
• Customer Service Survey Scores: Maintain an average score of 1.30 or less. Use survey results as coaching opportunities and ensure follow-up discussions.
• Mentorship and Teammate Development:  Act as a mentor and actively contribute to developing your team of adjusters.

Experience Requirements:

The ideal candidate must have substantial experience in the Midwest region and possess a strong background in achieving results. We are looking for a critical thinker who is eager to collaborate with other like-minded professionals to drive growth and strengthen our business. A minimum of 1-5 years of claims supervision is required.
