About the Design Team
MetaMask's design team aims to establish MetaMask as the premier wallet in fintech, elevating the craft of design and leading the industry as the next phase of decentralized finance unfolds. Our goal is to reduce friction while preserving user trust, so more people can safely explore the world of Web3.
What you’ll do
MetaMask is used by millions of people as their gateway to web3. As the product grows, so does the need for experiences that feel clear, responsive, and human. Motion plays a big role in that.
We’re looking for a Staff Motion Designer to join our Design Systems team. In this role, you’ll shape how motion shows up across MetaMask—from small interaction details to larger moments of expression. A core part of the work is defining a shared motion language and building systems that help teams use it consistently across the product.
This role sits within the design system, but it’s not just about documentation. You’ll be making things—prototyping, exploring, refining—and working closely with designers and engineers to bring motion into the product in a way that scales.
What you’ll work on
- Use motion to make the product easier to understand—helping people see what’s happening, what changed, and what to do next
- Define a clear, shared motion language for MetaMask—how things move, respond, and feel across surfaces
- Build patterns, guidelines, and reusable assets that allow motion to scale across teams and platforms
- Introduce moments of delight where they add value, without getting in the way
- Partner with product designers and engineers to bring motion into the product in a way that feels natural and performs well
- Use prototypes to explore and communicate interaction ideas
- Contribute to the overall level of craft across the team through feedback and collaboration
Would be great if you brought this to the role
- You’ve spent 6+ years working with motion in digital products, using animation and interaction to make complex experiences easier to understand
- You define motion languages and patterns that create consistency across screens, features, and platforms
- You build scalable systems—guidelines, reusable assets, or components—that help teams apply motion without starting from scratch
- You work closely with engineers to bring motion into production in ways that feel smooth, perform well, and hold up across platforms
- You use prototyping to explore and communicate ideas, helping teams align on how things should move and respond
- You balance clarity and delight, knowing when motion helps guide someone and when it might get in the way
- You raise the bar for craft, through feedback, collaboration, and hands-on contribution

What you'll do
This role is specifically within the Card team, which is focused on the development and integration of the MetaMask Debit Card and related features directly into the MetaMask platform. As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will be instrumental in building the core infrastructure and user-facing features that enable millions of users to securely and intuitively manage and use their MetaMask Debit Card within their wallet.
Specifically, you will be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing the front-end components and user experience for MetaMask Debit Card interactions across MetaMask clients.
- Developing robust and scalable backend services and APIs to manage card lifecycle, facilitate transaction processing, and integrate with financial partners.
- Ensuring seamless and secure integration with Card Issuers, payment networks, and compliance systems.
- Optimizing the performance and security of all Card features, handling real-time data feeds and high-volume transaction throughput.
Requirements:
- 3+ years working with mobile-based technologies
- 3+ years building websites and/or applications
- Experience with React and React Native
- Strong knowledge of modern Javascript (ES6/TypeScript/etc.)
- Familiarity with blockchain fundamentals and Web3 integration
- Working knowledge of cross platform/browser compatibility
- Experience working with APIs and middleware services
- Experience working in an agile development team
- Experience developing applications with clean code practices, testing, and adherence to coding standards
- Understanding of web-based security considerations
Bonus Points:
- Experience with payment processing, card issuing, or fintech products
- Experience with DeFi protocols and/or digital asset management
- Knowledge of financial products in the digital space
- Interest in blockchain technologies and Web3
- Basic understanding of cryptography principles
- Experience working in distributed teams
- Previous experience working in Web3
- Familiarity with the Web3 wallet ecosystem

MetaMask’s Wallet Platform organization owns the client platforms for the MetaMask browser extension and mobile apps. The Mobile Platform team treats MetaMask Mobile as a platform: we enable all feature teams to ship high‑quality experiences faster by providing a secure, stable, high‑performance foundation with excellent developer experience and automated operations.
MetaMask Mobile (iOS & Android) is built primarily on React Native, with native code where it matters. As a Principal Mobile Engineer, you’ll be the most senior hands‑on technical leader focused on mobile: setting architecture, defining standards, and driving cross‑team initiatives that shape the future of our mobile platform and MetaMask app.
You’ll work closely with engineers across MetaMask, not just within Mobile Platform, to ensure our mobile apps performance and stability scale with our users, features, and the broader Web3 ecosystem.
What you’ll do
As a Principal Engineer, you will:
- Own mobile platform architecture
- Define and evolve the architecture of MetaMask Mobile (React Native + native), leaning into performance by tightly integrating with backend services and optimizing app–backend interactions holistically rather than in isolation.
- Make key tradeoffs between JS/TS, RN, and native to balance performance, reliability, and iteration speed.
- Design and steward core platform systems (e.g., OTA, analytics foundations, data/persistence, auth, VPN/geolocation primitives).
- Lead design and architecture reviews for critical platform areas.
- Lead high‑impact, cross‑team initiatives
- Drive large upgrades and migrations (React Native, navigation, foundational libraries).
- Lead structural performance and stability work: startup time, crash rate, ANRs, jank, memory usage, bundle size.
- Break large efforts into incremental, shippable milestones with clear impact.
- Elevate developer experience & automation
- Improve tooling, local dev ergonomics, build/test pipelines, and release workflows for all mobile engineers.
- Establish clear patterns for navigation, state management, and platform primitives to reduce cognitive load.
- Push towards “push‑button” releases and reduced operational toil via automation.
- Own and continuously improve the mobile SDLC and lifecycle, including CI, testing, and release workflows.
- Build an AI‑enabled platform
- Integrate AI/LLMs into workflows to scaffold code, enforce patterns, and improve testing and feedback loops.
- Help define how tickets and platform patterns leverage AI safely and effectively.
- Drive app health & performance culture
- Define and evolve metrics and dashboards for performance, stability, and efficiency.
- Provide tools and guidance so feature teams can self‑diagnose and own regressions.
- Champion shared accountability for app health across all teams contributing to mobile.
- Multiply impact through leadership
- Mentor Senior/Staff engineers and influence technical direction across Wallet Platform and MetaMask.
- Help shape hiring and technical culture for a lean, senior, high‑leverage Mobile Platform team.

- Experience
- ~10+ years building and scaling mobile apps, including ownership of large, production React Native or hybrid mobile platforms.
Prior Staff/Principal‑level impact: leading complex, cross‑team technical initiatives.

- Technical depth
- Deep expertise with React Native in production: architecture, performance, debugging, bridging.

- Strong understanding of mobile CI/CD, release engineering, and OTA systems.
- Platform & systems mindset
- Track record building internal platforms, shared libraries, or tooling for other engineers.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and designing durable, reusable solutions.
- Strong architecture and communication skills; able to align diverse stakeholders.
- Leadership & mentorship
- Proven ability to influence without authority, set technical direction, and raise the engineering bar.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and shaping technical culture.
- AI‑curious / AI‑pragmatic
- Experience or strong interest in using AI/LLMs to improve developer productivity and code quality.
Bonus Points
- Experience with crypto / Web3, wallets, fintech, or other security‑sensitive apps.
- Contributions to open‑source in React Native, mobile, performance, or tooling.
