About Commvault
Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT) is the gold standard in cyber resilience. The company empowers customers to uncover, take action, and rapidly recover from cyberattacks – keeping data safe and businesses resilient. The company’s unique AI-powered platform combines best-in-class data protection, exceptional data security, advanced data intelligence, and lightning-fast recovery across any workload or cloud at the lowest TCO. For over 25 years, more than 100,000 organizations and a vast partner ecosystem have relied on Commvault to reduce risks, improve governance, and do more with data.
The Clumio Platform team designs, builds, and operates the core SaaS platform that underpins all Clumio data protection solutions, as well as industry’s first data protection solution for Apache Iceberg on AWS. For many customers, backup is not a “nice-to-have” capability, but a foundational requirement driven by compliance, audit, and security mandates. In these environments, recovery performance, cost efficiency, and reliable operation at scale are key differentiators.
The platform is designed to protect, back up, and recover large volumes of cloud data using a cloud-native architecture. The control and management plane scales dynamically based on workload characteristics such as the number of protected assets and the volume of events processed. A shared platform abstracts complexity from the underlying data management layer, enabling a consistent and seamless experience across supported data sources.
Beyond core backup and recovery, the platform provides essential non-backup capabilities including customer onboarding, metering and billing, reporting, alerting, and machine-learning-driven insights that enable customers to make smarter, cost-effective decisions about data protection. The team operates a mature, production-proven platform on AWS and is actively expanding into multi-cloud data protection across GCP and Azure.
As a Senior Principal Engineer on the Clumio Platform team, you are a senior technical authority for platform correctness, durability, and scale guarantees, reporting to the Engineering Director. This role operates at a company-critical scope, combining deep hands-on engineering with product-wide technical leadership and multi-year architectural ownership over systems that directly underpin customer trust, compliance, and business credibility.
You define and drive the long-term technical and product-facing vision for the control and management plane across the Clumio platform, spanning core critical components like backup and restore triggers, resource and task management, billing, metering, onboarding, reporting, alerting, AI feature sets, and failure handling across multiple cloud environments. You are responsible not only for the architectural integrity of these systems, but also for helping translate ambiguous customer, business, and product needs into clear technical strategy and execution plans. You work closely with the Engineering Director and Product leadership to shape roadmaps, sequence major initiatives, and ensure technical investments align with long-term product goals.
You lead the organization's complex, high-risk, and ambiguous initiatives—projects where requirements are few, problem boundaries are unclear, and tradeoffs have significant customer and business impact. This includes defining problem spaces, driving cross-functional alignment, designing systems with provable correctness, rigorously analyzing failure modes and recovery paths, and setting technical standards that ensure durability, security, and recoverability at scale.
While remaining deeply hands-on, you operate at a broader organizational scope than other individual contributors. You mentor Principal Engineers and senior technical leaders, guide teams through ambiguous design spaces, and serve as the escalation point for the most critical architectural and product-impacting decisions. You partner closely with Product, Customer Success, Security, Compliance, and executive leadership to ensure data protection architecture, roadmaps, and delivery plans reflect real-world customer requirements, regulatory obligations, and operational realities.
In this role, you are not only building systems—you are helping define the data protection capabilities Clumio brings to market for its customers.

The Clumio Data Protection team designs and operates cloud-native systems that protect and recover large volumes of enterprise cloud data. For many customers, backup is not a “nice-to-have” feature but a mandatory foundation driven by compliance, audit, and security requirements. In these environments, recovery speed, cost efficiency, and the ability to operate reliably at large data scales are critical differentiators.
The systems are designed to protect and recover cloud object data in a fully cloud-native manner. Compared to native cloud backup solutions, the platform delivers significantly faster recovery, lower cost for large-scale object storage workloads, and reliable support for substantially higher data volumes. These outcomes result from deliberate engineering decisions across system architecture, data flows, and failure-handling strategies.
The platform is built to gracefully handle disruptions through reprocessing and retries while maintaining correctness under real-world operational conditions at scale. The team operates a proven production platform supporting services such as Amazon S3 and DynamoDB and is expanding into multi-cloud data protection across GCP and Azure.
As a Senior Engineer on the Clumio Data Protection team, you own and deliver components and features within the cloud-native data protection systems, working under the technical direction of Principal and Senior Principal Engineers. This role focuses on building correct, reliable, and production-ready systems that protect and recover large-scale customer data.
You work on problems that are not always fully specified, translating high-level requirements into pragmatic implementations. This includes designing and implementing data protection workflows, operating and improving systems in production, and making trade-offs that balance performance, cost efficiency, and reliability. Over time, you take clear ownership of specific components or subsystems and drive feature development end-to-end.
Senior Engineers collaborate closely with Platform, Cloud Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Customer Success teams to ensure systems operate correctly under real-world conditions and customer usage patterns at scale. With guidance from senior technical leaders, you contribute to design discussions and grow toward broader system ownership.

As a Senior Engineer on the Clumio Platform team, you own and deliver components and features within the core cloud-native data protection platform, working under the technical direction of Principal Engineers. This role focuses on building correct, maintainable, and production-ready systems that are critical to customer-facing operations.
You work on problems that are not always fully specified upfront, translating high-level requirements into pragmatic technical implementations. This includes designing and implementing features, operating and improving them in production, and making informed trade-offs that balance simplicity, extensibility, cost, and operational reliability. Over time, you develop clear ownership of specific components or subsystems and increasingly drive feature development end-to-end.
Senior Engineers collaborate closely with Product, Quality Engineering, Customer Success, and other engineering teams to ensure solutions are robust, operable, and aligned with real-world customer needs. With guidance from Principal Engineers, you contribute to technical design discussions, incorporate customer feedback into system improvements, and grow toward broader technical ownership.
