Role Summary:
We’re hiring a Software Engineer II (backend) to help build and evolve our next-generation Censys Platform. In this role, you’ll develop scalable microservices and design robust APIs that power our SaaS product. You’ll work closely with product and engineering teams to translate complex requirements into well-architected, maintainable software that powers critical security insights. Your contributions will help users explore and understand the global Internet, enabling them to uncover threats and better protect their organizations.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, build, and enhance backend services that power core functionality across the Censys Platform
- Partner with Product, Design, and Frontend Engineers to deliver features that solve real customer problems
- Integrate with internal and external APIs to support rich, data-driven experiences
- Own the full development lifecycle by automating build, test, deployment, and monitoring workflows
- Contribute to an iterative development process that emphasizes continuous improvement and rapid feedback
- Help evolve the Censys public API as platform capabilities grow.
- Own small-to-medium features from technical design through launch, with increasing independence; participate in design discussions with guidance from senior engineers.
- Share on-call responsibilities for your areas and handle straightforward incidents with team support as needed.
What You’ll Bring:
- Experience writing backend services in Go (Golang).
- Foundational understanding of distributed systems and common operational challenges.
- General knowledge of database design and typical access patterns.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or GCP).
- Strong collaboration, communication, and analytical troubleshooting skills.
- A track record of delivering well-defined work at high quality, knowing when to ask for clarification or help, and learning quickly from mistakes.
Bonus Points:
- Experience building services on GCP.
For high cost of living areas (San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Seattle), the expected salary range for this position is $143,000 USD - $177,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
For all other US locations, the expected salary range for this position is $125,000 USD - $165,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. The listed range is a guideline, and the range for this role may be modified. For roles that are available to be filled remotely, the pay range is localized according to employee work location by a factor of between 83% and 100% of range. Role Summary:
We’re hiring a backend Software Engineer II to join our Core Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the critical infrastructure behind authentication, authorization, analytics, and user/account management across our platform. What You’ll Do:
- Help build large scale, real-time services and applications which leverage our massive datasets to power internal APIs and external applications.
- Build tooling, libraries, frameworks, and services that support security, research and data platform initiatives.
- Productionize prototypes into reliable internal tools, services, or platform capabilities.
- Participate in planning and technical discussions with engineering and product teams to help build the right solutions.
- Develop and maintain systems such as data pipelines, messaging systems, databases, caching layers, and services that run in the cloud or on-prem.
- Work with Machine Learning Engineers and Security Researchers to realize solutions that affect security outcomes.
Skills You Have:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience building distributed systems (i.e. data ingestion pipelines, databases, services).
- Experience with object-oriented programming - we use Go.
- Experience with at least one cloud provider, like: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience or familiarity with message queue technologies, like: AWS Kinesis , Google Pub/Sub, Kafka, or other.
- Experience working with databases, like: BigTable, Cloud Spanner, HBase, Cassandra, or other.
- Understanding of core distributed systems concepts such as scalability, fault tolerance, and reliability.
- Familiarity with using AI.
- Ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other engineers and product managers.
Things that make you stand out:
- Familiarity with gRPC or REST.
- Familiarity with data serialization technologies, like: Protobuf, MessagePack, etc.
- Experience building, deploying, or maintaining containerized services in Kubernetes.

- Leverage your experience of architecture and design to build various parts of the system, including components like: messaging queues, databases, ingestion pipelines, caching layers, and services that run in the cloud or on-prem.

What You’ll Bring:
- 5+ years of professional experience building distributed web applications and APIs
- Strong expertise building backend microservices in Golang
- Experience with REST/gRPC and service-oriented architectures.
- Familiarity with Docker and interest in improving our CI/CD deployment process
- Desire to improve test coverage and increase code maintainability
- The ability to thoughtfully participate in technical discussions and drive towards data-driven decisions amidst ambiguity and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and documentation skills. Explaining complex technical concepts to other engineers, designers, salespeople, and content marketers is no problem for you.
What Sets You Apart:
- Familiarity with a service-oriented architecture using gRPC or REST to coordinate and communicate between services and systems
- You have experience with microservice-based designs with GCP PubSub, etc, and know their tradeoffs
- Familiarity with common web programming languages such as TypeScript and JavaScript, and proficiency with React is a plus
- Experience building, deploying, and maintaining containerized services in a Kubernetes based environment
- You understand the value of building maintainable software. Some of your first tasks when building a new service are ensuring test coverage enforced by CI, adding linters, and adding code complexity checks. You enjoy a good abstraction, and promote established design patterns, but also know when to think outside the box.

Role Summary:
Censys is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Exposure Management team. Our Exposure Management solution is a growth product for Censys and depends on a world-class backend architecture to deliver real-time, high-fidelity visibility to our customers. We’re looking for an engineer who can design, build, and extend large-scale, real-time backend services that leverage Censys’ massive datasets to power internal product APIs and external customer-facing applications.
This role requires someone who is comfortable owning backend services end-to-end, integrating data from multiple internal systems, and operating in production environments where reliability, observability, and correctness matter. As with all roles at Censys, we expect a strong customer focus, a collaborative mindset, and a desire to continuously learn and improve both our systems and our team.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, build, and own backend APIs and gRPC services that integrate data from multiple internal teams and systems in a clean, well-architected manner
- Build and evolve real-time and near–real-time backend services and data pipelines that power Exposure Management and Attack Surface Management products
- Leverage AI and LLMs to enhance automation, accelerate development workflows, and improve customer-facing intelligence
- Partner closely with Product and other Engineering teams to prioritize features, influence the Exposure Management roadmap, and deliver customer value on tight timelines
- Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentorship, and setting a high bar for code quality, performance, and operational reliability
- Design and maintain automated CI/CD workflows, including testing, monitoring, alerting, and deployment, to ensure services are production-ready and observable
What You’ll Bring:
- A positive attitude biased towards action and iterative problem solving, learning as we grow every step of the way.
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
- 3+ years of experience with Golang.
- Experience designing and consuming REST and gRPC APIs in service-oriented or microservice architectures
- Strong distributed systems fundamentals, including experience building horizontally scalable, fault-tolerant systems
- The ability to thoughtfully participate in technical discussions and drive towards data-driven decisions amidst ambiguity and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and documentation skills. Explaining complex technical concepts to other engineers, designers, salespeople, and content marketers is no problem for you.
What Sets You Apart:
- Strong interest in harnessing AI and LLM tools as a force multiplier - using it to code smarter, iterate faster boosting productivity and enhancing product capabilities
- You have experience with microservice-based designs with GCP PubSub, etc, and know their tradeoffs.
- Experience building, deploying, and maintaining containerized services in a Kubernetes based environment.
- You understand the value of building maintainable software. Some of your first tasks when building a new service are ensuring test coverage enforced by CI, adding linters, and adding code complexity checks. You enjoy a good abstraction, and promote established design patterns, but also know when to think outside the box.
- A deep understanding of how the Internet works. For example, WHOIS, Certificate Subject Alternative Names (SANs), and DNS record types should not be foreign to you.
For high cost of living areas (San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Seattle), the expected salary range for this position is $157,000 USD - $188,000, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
For other US locations, the expected salary range for this position is $137,000 USD - $175,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. The listed range is a guideline, and the range for this role may be modified. For roles that are available to be filled remotely, the pay range is localized according to employee work location by a factor of between 83% and 100% of range. About the Role
We are looking for Director of Business Development to lead our federal systems integrator (SI) partner strategy—a critical lever for scaling our presence across key U.S. government programs.
This is a high-impact, externally facing role responsible for building and activating strategic SI partnerships to drive pipeline, expand contract access, and accelerate revenue growth. What You’ll Do
- Own and expand strategic SI partnerships: Build and manage executive-level relationships across top-tier federal systems integrators to drive pipeline, program access, and long-term growth

Role Summary
As the Director of Security & GRC, you will lead Censys’ corporate security function and its governance, risk, and compliance programs. You will be responsible for ensuring our systems are highly available, highly secure, and easy to use, while maintaining rigorous adherence to key compliance frameworks including ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2, UK NCSC Cyber Essentials+, and CMMC. You will also own our data loss prevention, insider threat, and security telemetry programs, ensuring Censys has the visibility and controls needed to detect and respond to threats effectively. This role requires a seasoned security leader who can operate at the intersection of hands-on technical security and strategic compliance management—building scalable systems and processes that act as force multipliers across the organization.
What you'll do:
- Own, build, and scale the team and systems for Censys’ corporate security infrastructure
- Own company security needs from endpoint provisioning to deploying tools that improve our overall security posture while keeping things simple for all employees
- Manage the Security team; delegate day-to-day workloads and ensure coverage of critical functions during PTO to maintain a high SLA
- Own the complete endpoint lifecycle including provisioning, application deployment, security controls, and asset retirement
- Work closely with internal teams to enforce compliance across endpoints and help users understand how security policies impact their daily work
- Manage and secure cloud environments and coordinate security configuration of software and tools
- Develop and deliver Security Awareness Training to internal users
- Collect and create documentation for security processes and build out a knowledge base for the team
- Design, implement, and manage the company’s Data Loss Prevention (DLP) program, including policies, tooling, and enforcement across endpoints, cloud, and email
- Own and operate the insider threat program, including behavioral monitoring, investigation workflows, and coordination with Legal, HR, and senior leadership as required
- Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to ensure security telemetry and logging coverage meets both operational and compliance requirements
- Lead the development and implementation of Censys’ compliance strategy to achieve and maintain compliance with ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2, UK NCSC Cyber Essentials+, and CMMC, in partnership with the Security and Operations teams
- Develop, review, and update organizational policies and procedures to align with compliance and governance requirements
- Oversee timely responses to security questionnaires and other sales requests relating to organizational and product security and privacy
- Validate and respond to inbound legal process as required by federal law
- Assist in the procurement process to review proposed purchases for security and privacy concerns
- Manage control and process libraries
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in cybersecurity, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or Director-level role
- Demonstrated experience owning and operating enterprise security programs including DLP, insider threat, and detection and response
- Deep familiarity with compliance frameworks including ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2, CMMC, NIST, and GDPR
- Experience building and managing security telemetry, SIEM, and detection engineering programs
- Strong understanding of cloud security (AWS, GCP, or Azure), endpoint security, and identity and access management
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing security team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex security concepts to executive leadership, legal, and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience managing security incident response, including coordination across Legal, HR, and executive leadership
- Background in security program development within a high-growth or scale-up environment
For high cost of living areas (Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, and NYC Metro), the expected salary range for this position is $206,000 - $237,000, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
For all other US locations, the expected salary range for this position is $180,000 - $220,000, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
