 About Your Role 

• You will operate the systematized investment logic we use to create ideal portfolios for our clients.  
• You will oversee a set of processes that ingests updated market data along with our view from our research department, applies portfolio construction logic, risk controls, and client specific constraints to determine those ideal portfolios. 
• You will oversee our logic for choosing which instruments we want to hold and then deliver the set of trades necessary to implement our portfolios to our trading department. 
• You will regularly communicate your understanding and assessment to a diverse group of people, including senior investment managers, traders, and developers.  
• You will partner with technologists and researchers to constantly improve our processes, focusing on increasing efficiency or the implementation of new logic or portfolios. 

You will drive the following responsibilities: 

• Executing and overseeing the systematized logic we use to generate client portfolios and trades every day 
• Understanding and effectively communicating the state of those portfolios to our senior investment teams and CIOs 
• Working with technologists and researchers to construct new investment implementation systems or overhaul old ones

Our investment associates are the core team responsible for generating our macro and market insights, building our investment systems, and overseeing our portfolios. They are:

• Relentlessly, obsessively—curious. To beat markets, you must have unique insight—but markets are always learning. We need individuals fiercely driven to understand how the world works, uncovering new logical relationships, testing and exploring new data sources, and consistently trying to expand their understanding and constantly improve.
• Deeply independent—bordering on iconoclastic—thinkers. For decades, Bridgewater has been studying markets and economies and reflecting our best understanding in our investment systems. We need independent-minded individuals who will come in and tell us why what we’re doing and thinking is wrong—and be right about it.
• Conceptual and analytical. We need people who are excited by both the challenge of understanding abstract concepts and the challenge of translating insights into quantifiable measures in a systematic investment process. We are looking for exceptionally bright, “high horsepower” thinkers.

What do Investment Associates at Bridgewater do?

Investment Associates at Bridgewater cover a wide range of functions, and most tend to specialize in one or two areas. We need a wide range of people and capabilities to power our investment engine and take on the different responsibilities involved:

• Research the drivers of economies and markets. Build the insights that underly our investment edge and stay on top of a constantly evolving world. Recent top research priorities have included understanding the implications of the shift to the new economic and geopolitical paradigm we call modern mercantilism and the macro implications of transformational advances in artificial intelligence.
• Develop systematic indicators for trading markets. For every insight we learn, we codify it in algorithms that run every day to process vast data on economic conditions and form views on markets. These algorithms represent one of the world’s most advanced and profitable expert system. It is critical that this system not just efficiently model the significant complexity of our understanding but also be exceptionally intelligible so that we can continually combine the best of human and machine intelligence.
• Oversee our portfolios and live and breathe the markets. Reflecting human intuition into investment systems is an exceptionally difficult task, and some of our most impactful investment system improvements come from investors who are watching markets every day, independently forming views, and reconciling their views with the outputs of our investment systems. In many cases, our systems will also be reflecting a factor they are underweighing or forgot about (that’s the power of systemization), but in an important set of cases, our investors will be identifying dynamics that our systems are not currently able to capture, which then drives further evolution.
• Drive the future of human and machine investor collaboration. Getting the most out of the collaboration between humans and machines has always been at the core of our systematic learning process, and we’ve continued to evolve our approach with the launch of AIA. We need investors who are exceptionally creative users of technology who will drive our transformation toward a fully integrated system that combines the best of human and machine intelligence. This includes a radical inflection in how rapidly we can learn about the world and systemize those ideas.
• Partnering with the world’s most sophisticated institutional investors. At Bridgewater our clients are some of the biggest pools of capital on the planet. Many of the dynamics we wrestle with in our own investment strategies are the same concerns our clients are wrestling with. Building a relationship that goes beyond just the money we manage for our clients has been foundational to our business model since our origins. This includes writing the Bridgewater Daily Observations, which provides an over-the-shoulder look into how we’re seeing the world, as well as conducting a number of custom research projects and building tailored portfolio solutions for our largest clients.

What can I expect in an Investment Associate summer internship?

Our goal is to provide interns with real and meaningful exposure to a fundamental and systematic investment process. As Investment Associates, we live and breathe markets and want our interns to have the chance to do the same. We hate the concept of “busy work” and try to make the internship as real of a window as possible. From the first week on, you’ll be expected to form your own macroeconomic and market views—including the opportunity to bet with your intern compensation and enter “positions” in actual markets Bridgewater trades, where Bridgewater will take the other side, using our in-house Investor Track Record tool.

The internship is structured around the same components as Bridgewater’s research and investment process—you’ll start by looking out at the world and perceiving the most important dynamics for investors related to a specific economy and market. You’ll then synthesize your key views. Finally, you’ll get exposure to systemization—taking your point-in-time views and working with our investors to translate the core logic into data and mathematical expressions that you can then stress-test through time.

Throughout the internship, you’ll also receive world-class markets and macroeconomic training via an abridged version of our first year Investment Associate class. This will cover the foundational frameworks, introduction to analytical methods we use in our research, and exposure to our technology stack. Our training ecosystem is designed so that anyone willing to put in the work can get the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the internship and get a taste of what it’s like to be a real macro investor.

Compensation

Total compensation for this position is $71,000 for the 8-week internship (less applicable deductions and withholdings), including a sign on bonus. In addition, our compensation package includes housing.

Previously, we used to post separate job applications for Investment Associates and Investment Engineers. As we plan for a future where we’ll need both incredible independent investor insight and deep human-machine collaboration, we are consolidating those roles into a single Investment Associate position. As described above, the IA role will still require a wide variety of people from a range of different backgrounds, and there will be many different areas of potential focus that our IAs can specialize in.

About Bridgewater’s Asia Strategies Team 

The goal of the Asia Strategies team is to create industry-leading portfolios and investment thinking in Asia, helping investors navigate the changing geopolitical and macroeconomic paradigm. This entails growing deep regional expertise, generating alpha in Asian markets, researching and publishing our understanding of the macroeconomic environment, and designing portfolio solutions to help our clients invest across the region.  

Bridgewater has a long history as an asset manager in Asia. It started when our founder, Ray Dalio, first visited China in 1984, and we have been trading Asian markets since 1992. Asian markets have always been a core part of our global macro investment strategies, and Asian economies feature prominently in the research we have published on debt cycles and the changing world order. Bridgewater has offices in only two places – the US and Asia – reflecting the region’s strategic importance. Our first Asia-focused fund, launched in 2018, is now among the largest private funds in China. 

About Your Role  

As a Commodities Research Associate on our Asia Strategies team, you will help Bridgewater invest in commodity markets, with a strong focus on agricultural commodities, based on a unique and differentiated view of both supply-demand fundamentals and Chinese market dynamics. You will build deep expertise in how agricultural prices – and shifts in those prices – impact broader commodity markets and macroeconomic forces such as growth and inflation. 

You will drive the following responsibilities: 

• Partner with our investors to research questions on commodity markets and commodity-producing companies, with a specific focus on agriculturals, and turn that understanding into systematic trading strategies and investment advice for our clients 
• Help build, maintain, and consistently refine commodity balance sheets; acquire and organize the production and consumption of trade data needed to support those balance sheets 
• Manage and update key building blocks of understanding including data, models, and visualizations 
• Monitor and raise observations about new or changing conditions in the world 
• Access data and ingest them in a systematic way (strong technical aptitude and coding experience is a plus) 

We are looking for candidates with the following minimum qualifications: 

• 4+ years of experience at a commodities trading house, research group, hedge fund, or merchant 
• Proven track record trading agricultural commodities in onshore China (soybeans, rapeseed, palm oil, corn), ideally also with experience in softs (sugar, cotton) 
• Fluency in Mandarin 
• Strong work ethic, strong attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to achieve results and drive projects to completion 
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and organize time effectively in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

The Investment Implementation department is a community of diverse investment professionals whose mission is to implement our investment strategies and client portfolios excellently. About Your Role 

In this role, you will be an integral part of the Data Strategy and Acquisition function within our Investment Implementation group. Operating at the front edge of our Investment Data practice, you will assist, learn, and contribute to the evolution of our Relationship Management, Supplier Knowledge Management, Contract Management, and Service Management administration disciplines. You will engage with investors, associates, engineers, and external vendors and providers to drive strong outside-in and inside-out knowledge, quality management, and business process alignment. 

You will be a central part of our Research and Data Strategy function and immersed in the middle of our flows, investment questions, supplier challenges, matching ideation, internal marketing/advocacy, and service strategy. You will regularly communicate your understanding and assessments to a diverse group of stakeholders, including investment professionals, vendors and service providers, and Management, Compliance, Legal, and Finance. You will drive the following responsibilities: 

• Activating, advocating, executing, and assisting in the systems, sourcing, supply chains, and internal demand we use to provide and maintain inbound fuel and internal investment asks of the practice.

About Your Role

About Your Role

Client Investment Research Analysts play a vital role in service of Bridgewater’s overall client service strategy across our front office departments – the Alpha Engine, Total Portfolio Strategies, and Client Service. Analysts act as the primary support to Bridgewater’s Strategists, a small group of senior investors appointed by Bridgewater’s co-CIOs to partner directly with our clients on their most important Research priorities. Day-to-day work includes collaborating with Strategists, Client Advisors, asset class teams, and our CIOs to define approaches on how to handle different client-focused research projects and execute on them through research, analysis, and project management, culminating in novel investment insights that informs out clients’ thinking. From their unique position at the heart of Bridgewater’s client-focused research activity, these individuals have an aerial view into our ever-evolving perspectives on world markets, high-impact company-wide projects and our investment philosophy and processes.

As a Client Investment Research Analyst for the Investor Relations team, you will partner with Client Advisors and Strategists to provide clients with insights and advice to address their questions about Bridgewater’s strategies, performance, and portfolio positions. You will also be exposed to the full breadth of Bridgewater strategies, regularly working with different types of content and project managing across pillars and disciplines.

Successful Client Investment Research Analysts will:

• Develop a holistic understanding of portfolios and portfolio management principles

What you'll do

For fifty years, we've been turning our understanding of how the world works into systems that trade global markets. You'll push the frontier of how we do it.

Architect, own, and evolve the systems behind our investment edge. Every day, our algorithms process vast data on economic conditions and form views on markets—one of the world's most advanced and profitable expert systems. You will build, own, and interrogate these systems: developing and probing our most sophisticated investment logic, identifying where it breaks, and devising new analytical approaches to push it forward. The hardest problems here don't yield to off-the-shelf methods.

Invent new ways of investing. With the launch of AIA, we're entering a fundamentally new era in how humans and machines collaborate to invest. We need people who can connect emerging technologies to our highest-priority investment questions and devise practical solutions that change how we research, build systems, and learn. You won't just be using new tools—you'll be reimagining the process itself.

Oversee portfolios and live and breathe the markets. Your systems trade global markets every day, and you will know them cold—their logic, their edges, their blind spots. You'll form independent market views and use that tension between human judgment and system output to drive continuous improvement. The best system owners are the ones who never stop asking: where is this wrong?

Research the drivers of economies and markets. Build the insights that underlie our investment edge by tackling some of the hardest analytical problems in macro—problems that demand exceptional rigor, creative use of a wide range of quantitative methods, and the ability to go from an abstract question to a concrete, testable answer. Recent priorities have included the shift to the new paradigm we call modern mercantilism and the macro implications of transformational advances in artificial intelligence.

What you bring

• A strong foundation in a quantitative or technical discipline—computer science, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, or a related field
• A few years of professional experience building systems, models, or quantitative tools—whether in technology, finance, research, or another demanding environment
• A problem-solving orientation: analytically rigorous and detail-oriented, but able to flexibly learn new methods to get from concept to execution
• Genuine intellectual passion for understanding how economies and markets work—not just modeling them, but understanding the causal mechanics
• Fluency in at least one programming language commonly used in quantitative research or systems development

Compensation

The total compensation range across these roles is $225,000–$450,000 inclusive of base salary and discretionary target bonus. The expected base salary is typically 50%–75% of the relevant range, depending on team, level, and experience.

• You will operate the systematized investment logic we use to create ideal portfolios for our clients.  
• You will oversee a set of processes that ingests updated market data along with our view from our research department, applies portfolio construction logic, risk controls, and client specific constraints to determine those ideal portfolios.

About the Implementation Department  

The Investment Implementation department is a community of diverse investment professionals whose mission is to implement our investment strategies and client portfolios excellently. Our Department is responsible for ensuring the excellent implementation of our systematic investment approach, from raw data to executed trades, with processes and logic that reflect the full richness of our investment insight, executed with a near-zero error rate, and engineered and orchestrated in a way that facilitates oversight and compounding of knowledge. As a Portfolio Engineer at Bridgewater, you’ll sit at the crossroads of investment strategies, analytics, and trade implementation - helping transform Bridgewater’s ideas into real portfolios that move markets.

Your mission is to solve the puzzle of managing money at material scale - from risk controls through trade generation. You’ll connect investment intent with real-world execution, ensuring every position reflects the full richness of our insights with precision and scale.

Portfolio Engineers must think like builders and portfolio managers. You’ll collaborate closely with investment teams and technologists - bridging the gap to engineer solutions.

What You’ll Do

• Architect portfolio systems that translate investment strategy into executable trades, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and efficient.

About the Implementation Department 

The Investment Implementation department is a community of diverse investment professionals whose mission is to implement our investment strategies and client portfolios excellently. Our Department is responsible for ensuring the excellent implementation of our systematic investment approach, from raw data to executed trades, with processes and logic that reflect the full richness of our investment insight, executed with a near-zero error rate, and engineered and orchestrated in a way that facilitates oversight and compounding. About the Role 

The Program Manager will partner with the Department Head of Investment Implementation, Director of Investment System Programs, and Head of Data and Signals to shape and operationalize multi-year initiatives, identify and engage key stakeholders, and build clear paths of influence. The person in this role will collaborate with subject matter experts who require development in strategy and execution, as well as play a key role in translating the strategy into action. This includes guiding department level priorities, partnering with Senior Investors to manage teams, delivering critical programs, metrics, engaging with senior internal and external stakeholders, and directly managing one or more strategic initiatives or projects. This role offers high visibility with senior leadership and is expected to influence departmental direction and companywide priorities.

• Lead the annual planning synthesis for the Data and Signals pillar, working across stakeholders to translate strategy into clear priorities, timelines, and accountability.

About Your Role  

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join a PM-led pod focused on systematic macro and long/short equity strategies in APAC. This is a hands-on, embedded role working directly with the portfolio manager, quantitative researchers, and quantitative developers in a fast-paced investment environment.

Unlike centralized data platform roles, this position is deeply integrated with the investment process. You will own the end-to-end data lifecycle that powers alpha research, portfolio construction, and live trading – from sourcing and ingestion to profiling, validation, transformation, and delivery into research and production systems. You will collaborate with our quantitative researchers, developers and portfolio managers and have direct impact on the data and systems that drive investment decisions. 

You will drive the following responsibilities:  

• Identify and assess new datasets to identify their merit in our investment process.  

• Build and maintain a catalog of datasets/vendors by attending data conferences, reading whitepapers, and taking introductory calls.  

• Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines supporting systematic macro and long/short equity strategies. 

• Partner closely with researchers and quantitative developers to ensure data is research-ready, well-documented, and reproducible across simulation and live environments.

Bridge the gap between research and production. You'll take investment ideas, models, and analytical frameworks developed by researchers and associates and turn them into robust, production-grade systems. This means working closely with researchers to deeply understand intent, designing clean abstractions, building thorough test harnesses, and ensuring that what runs in production faithfully reflects what was designed in research.

Build and evolve our technology platform. Invest in the shared infrastructure, tooling, and frameworks that make the entire team faster and more effective. This includes data pipelines, execution systems, monitoring and observability, backtesting frameworks, and the developer experience that shapes how quickly new ideas can be tested and deployed.

Push the frontier of how we use emerging technology. With the rise of AI-native development tools, large language models, and new paradigms in data processing and systems design, we need engineers who can evaluate these technologies critically and integrate them where they create real leverage—accelerating development velocity, improving system quality, or enabling entirely new capabilities.

Operate, monitor, and continuously improve live systems. Your systems trade global markets every day. You will own their operational health—building the monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic tooling needed to ensure they perform as intended, and driving rapid resolution when they don't. You'll use production behavior as a feedback loop to identify improvements in both the technology and the underlying investment logic.

What you bring

• Strong software engineering fundamentals—data structures, algorithms, system design, and a track record of building and shipping production systems
• Several years of professional experience in software engineering, infrastructure, data engineering, or ML engineering—in technology, finance, or another demanding environment
• Proficiency in one or more languages commonly used in quantitative systems (e.g., Python, Java, C++) and comfort picking up new tools quickly
• Experience designing systems that handle complex data processing, real-time or near-real-time workloads, or high-reliability requirements
• A strong interest in financial markets, economics, or quantitative investing—you don't need a finance background, but you should be genuinely excited to learn the domain deeply

Compensation

The total compensation range across these roles is $225,000–$450,000 inclusive of base salary and discretionary target bonus. The expected base salary is typically 50%–75% of the relevant range, depending on team, level, and experience.

About the Implementation Department 

The Investment Implementation department is a community of diverse investment professionals whose mission is to implement our investment strategies and client portfolios excellently. Our department is responsible for ensuring the excellent implementation of our systematic investment approach, from raw data to executed trades, with processes and logic that reflect the full richness of our investment insight, executed with a near-zero error rate, and engineered and orchestrated in a way that facilitates oversight and compounding. About the Team 

The Investment Data Implementation team, part of the Investment Implementation Department, is responsible for owning, deeply understanding, and delivering data that fuel Bridgewater’s investment systems. 

The team is responsible for two critical business functions.  As part of the research process, the data implementation team must deeply understand the needs of our investors and then discover, onboard, and assess data sources against those needs. The team is also responsible for owning Bridgewater’s data and signals generation system, ensuring that the investment intent is achieved through daily data releases and market action. 

About Your Role 

The Senior Manager role is responsible for delivering the investment needs of our CIOs and asset class leads.   It is an action-oriented responsibility, where the day-to-day work directly drives Bridgewater’s investment signal generation.    

You will work closely with the Head of Investment Data and Signals Implementation, the Department Head, and our investment leadership to deliver Bridgewater’s investment operations.  

You’ll independently lead the team, demonstrating strong judgment, initiative, and follow-through. • Minimum 3-5+ years of experience in core data workflows (Data ingestion, Data Validation, Process Orchestration, Derived Data Transformation, Derived Data Validation, Data Exposure)  

• Proven track record of delivering data for senior business customers (e.g., business line heads, COO, CEO).  Experience should span proven delivery / implementation as well as evolution 

• Prior management of full budget inclusive of data licensing, organization, and technology related costs 

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
