ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate for the Sr. Project Manager, Construction position. The Sr. Project Manager will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. This role reports to Director, Construction. The successful candidate is responsible for supporting day to day Construction team functions from early-stage development through construction and commercial operation for a portfolio of projects. Along with development support, the Sr. Project Manager supports procurement, construction, management of the engineering and permitting milestones required for project financing and successful construction of the project. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

EPC Contracting:

• Responsible to ensure safety priorities are reflected in the contracting.
• Support EPC procurement from initial bid through EPC Agreement execution.
• Coordinate across functional teams and consultants for the development and negotiation of key project documents for EPC contracting.
• Support overall EPC proposal process, including ownership of overall RFP schedule and accuracy and completeness of EPC responses.
• Work closely with procurement team to ensure equipment packages are coordinated with EPC partners.

Pre-Construction Project Management:

• Coordinate with engineering team on project diligence required by financing processes and independent engineers.
• Manage distribution and review of design and technical submittals from EPC partners to ensure cross functional sign off.

Construction Management:

• Ensure that the site is being constructed with safety as number one priority, being inquisitive about safety issues and safety wins for the site being managed.
• Work independently to identify and avoid/mitigate potential cost impacts and schedule delays are either avoided or mitigated. Lead and provide recommendations for path forward with internal team and executives.
• Act as the day to day project lead representing Avantus
• Maintain project internal accounting database (Cashflow and project details) for accuracy.
• Support Project Director in responding to Project Buyer/equity partner concerns are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
• Work with Onsite construction managers to understand project status, forecast risk, and identify potential obstacles to projection budget and schedule
• Communicate openly and effectively with all project stakeholders
• Ensure contract compliance with all relevant project agreements.
• Produce and manage project reporting to lenders and sponsors.

Development support for project pipeline:

• Manage coordination between engineering and cost estimating teams, ensuring project constructability and cost-effective solutions are pursued.
• Review project development schedules and ensure that EPC timelines are appropriate.
• Develop and maintain project budgets, cashflows and milestone dates.

Travel

• Travel to the job sites and offices as necessary to complete job duties.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, or construction management.
• 5+ years of EPC management and contracting experience, preferably in solar development or utility infrastructure projects.
• Experience working for a utility-scale solar developer or an IPP.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to evaluate priorities and multi-task accordingly while keeping others apprised of status with respect to deadlines
• Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions
• Ability to work on multiple projects across various design and construction phases.

The Sr. Associate or Manager, Development demonstrates sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. This position is responsible for the development of solar photovoltaic and energy storage projects through project management, economic analysis, document negotiation, and transaction support across a pipeline of projects targeting wholesale power markets in the US.  The Sr. Associate or Manager has extensive experience in the energy industry, specifically in energy infrastructure development; strong financial analysis skills; an ability to effectively communicate complex ideas; and the ability and enthusiasm to drive projects forward.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greenfield development of utility-scale solar power generation facilities.
• Engage community, local and state institutions for project support.
• Assist in the preparation of permit applications for new and acquired solar facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
• Managing contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget.
• Negotiate tax abatements, land use agreements, mitigation settlements, and various other agreements.
• Assist in negotiation of PPA’s with utilities and other energy buyers/offtakers.
• Work with the finance department during financial feasibility analysis, evaluation, and financing.
• Assist with permitting and environmental compliance throughout the construction of projects.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Extensive knowledge of the full-cycle of utility-scale renewable power generation development and marketing.
• 4+ years’ experience required in renewable energy development. 
• Working knowledge of interconnection, permitting, real estate, state/federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, law and other issues that impact development of renewable energy projects in the eastern energy markets.
• Detailed understanding of the interconnection process (study process, contracting, utility requirements, financial obligations, and scope execution by utilities) to both site projects optimally and to advance them through COD.

The ideal candidate will have the right mix of skills, experience and enthusiasm to succeed in early-stage development and ongoing asset management of large-scale solar projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Lead negotiations for real estate contracts underlying Avantus’ portfolio of solar and storage projects.
• Lead due diligence tracking and project status reporting for one of the largest development pipelines in the industry.
• Assist with new market and site analysis including investigation of land development criteria and land ownership.
• Assist with review, resolution, and reporting of title matters to support financing of projects, including vesting, mineral rights, liens, taxes, and other critical matters
• Coordinate efforts among landowners, attorneys, surveyors, utilities, title companies, and other key project stakeholders.
• Assist with drafting, abstraction, and execution of agreements including purchase and lease agreements, amendments, easements, crossing agreements, estoppels, subordination agreements, affidavits, etc.

The Director, Construction role is responsible for leading the day-to-day EPC team functions from design through commercial operation for a portfolio of projects.  The Project Director is responsible for the overall successful construction of the projects.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Construction Management:

• Overall commercial lead during the construction of a portfolio of projects.
• Provide strategic analysis and direction to internal team to support company goals on portfolio. 
• Prepare and present polished presentations to executives for major stage gates and risk review
• Manage the internal support team for each project: direct-report Project Managers, external consultants, and cross-functional team members. 
• Proactively control cost, cash flow, and schedule through risk mitigation and change order negotiation.  
• Manage relationships with EPCs, equity partners, and other key counterparties.
• Manage Owner Furnished Equipment deliveries and connections to other project-level contracts.
• Manage commissioning of PV + solar projects to ensure the project is successfully meeting milestones in LGIA, PPA, and financing agreements.  
• Lead negotiation and execution of all change orders, amendments, and consultant contracts during construction. 
• Ensure team compliance with internal processes and develop new processes to help standardize internal approach. 
• Develop and maintain project budgets, cashflows, and milestone dates in internal reporting tools. 

Pre-construction Support: 

• Provide feedback and lessons learned on contract terms and exhibits.
• Support Pre-construction team through RFP review, constructibility review, and budget/schedule input.  
• Work closely with procurement team to ensure equipment packages are coordinated with EPC partners. 
• Ensure contractors and consultants provide key technical deliverables for permitting efforts and financing processes. 
• Manage EPC scope execution before full start of construction (design, early site work, long-lead procurement).

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate for the Manager, Permit Compliance position. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. This role reports to the Director, Permit Compliance.

Working in close coordination with various other cross-functional teams including Permitting, Asset Management, Development, Engineering, Transmission/Interconnection, Project Finance, and Construction Management, the Manager oversees compliance with environmental and land use permit conditions for operating utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, including conditional use permits, state and federal endangered species permits, stream, wetland, and stormwater permits, wildlife laws and regulations, and other local, state, and federal regulations. This person has at least five (5) years of experience in managing the environmental compliance of large infrastructure projects with demonstrated experience within the renewable or similar industries strongly desired. This position requires an understanding of permitting and permit compliance requirements on a subject matter expert level; manages others with expertise in the field and works hands-on to ensure compliance tasks are completed with project needs including budget and schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Oversee permit compliance activities for operating projects, including management and direction of permit compliance staff (as applicable) and consultants.
• Direct and execute compliance with permit requirements, tracking and documenting permit stipulations, managing mitigation measures, and reporting for renewable power projects in the SW and CA.
• Develop and maintain working relationships with local, state, and federal regulatory authorities to assist in the successful execution of compliance activities and represent the company’s interests.
• Fill the role of subject matter expert on multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Integrate with the rest of the Permitting Team to support permit development and review, including review of permit conditions and evaluating the implementation feasibility of permits.
• Provide strategic direction to multi-disciplinary teams on a project level.
• Produce periodic reports, including the tracking and timely filing of compliance reports and submittals with government agencies.
• Oversee the development of policies and procedures guiding the company’s permit compliance program.
• Help with policy and procedure development initiatives within the Permit Compliance Team.
• 20% of travel anticipated visiting operating and under-construction renewable power sites, government agencies, stakeholders, and various industry-related conferences.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, ecology, biology, city and regional planning, or related field. Advance degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience required maintaining and managing compliance with land use permits, zoning permits, and environmental resource permits for large energy or infrastructure projects.
• Expertise with land use entitlements, CEQA, NEPA, ESA, state Endangered Species laws, aquatic resource permitting, and stormwater regulations desirable.
• Experience coordinating with federal and state agencies and counties and municipalities in satisfying mitigation measures, conditions of approvals, and stipulations associated with conditional use permits, Right-of-Way grants or similar experience is strongly desired.
• Understanding of permit compliance requirements in relation to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts.

The Sr. Paralegal provides real estate, transactional, and administrative support across multiple cross-functional teams, including project finance and development teams, with an emphasis on real estate closings and title curative work.  This person has experience closing complex multi-parcel real estate projects or similar transactions, as well as proficiency in drafting and reviewing real estate site control and title curative documents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Order and review title commitments, exception documents and surveys, interfacing directly with the title company and surveyor to resolve any issues or discrepancies, and obtain revised title commitments, title insurance proformas, and final surveys.
• Prepare and coordinate the execution of real estate agreements, such as lease and easement agreements (and associated memoranda, amendments and terminations), landowner estoppels, Subordination and Non-Disturbance Agreements and various other land and title documents.
• Coordinate, track, and report on the execution of projects, including title searches and title curative work.
• Prepare first drafts of title and survey comment/ revision correspondence to the title companies and surveyors.
• Prepare and administer contract critical dates, electronic calendaring, and closing checklists.
• Conduct analysis, coordination and procurement of crossing consents and crossing agreements with third parties, including conveying and drafting compliance requirements to Construction team and contractors
• Coordinate and assist with all aspects of closings including lease “closings”, including preparation of closing documents, conveyance documents, closing statements, and other closing documents.
• Prepare closing schedules and assist with population of documents to data rooms.
• Attend to all post-closing requirements, which will require you to prepare closing indices, prepare and organize closing binders, and monitor all post-closing deliveries and requirements

• Perform Notary Public and other duties as requested.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 5 years of real estate paralegal experience in an in-house legal department or at a law firm.

The Associate would support a team of Project Finance professionals who source, negotiate, and execute project sales and structured financings, including whole or partial cash equity sales, construction financing, back leverage debt, and tax equity financing. The position requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, constantly collaborating with various internal and external teams to meet project and transaction deadlines. The individual would ultimately be responsible for supporting day-to-day execution of these transactions and performing analysis on the market and investors to develop project-specific valuations and economic sensitivities.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Project Valuation and Modeling:  

• Able to work independently and collaboratively with a cross-functional team. 
• Own every aspect of the project financial model for both mid-stage and late-stage development assets, including significant time working on project offtake bidding and structuring. 
• Monitor the debt, tax equity, and cash equity markets for appropriate valuation techniques and pricing 
• Prepare and explain capital structure sensitivities, becoming intimately familiar with the potential capital permutations and value levers  
• Understand the various development, construction, and operational inputs to the model, working closely with cross-functional experts in various functional groups such as Origination, Land Acquisition, Development, Construction, Engineering/Optimization, Storage, Interconnection, etc.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to lead Avantus’ tax function and be a strategic advisor to senior leadership on all tax matters. The successful candidate will have depth and breadth of tax experience supporting the development of utility scale solar and battery storage projects, subchapter K (partnership tax) and demonstrate sound industry knowledge, and judgement. The role will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the tax function for the Company.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Provide tax advice to support the development of 5 GW of utility scale solar and battery storage projects 
• Identify and implement opportunities to maximize the use of renewable energy tax incentives, including federal and state tax credits, property tax abatements, and sales/use tax exclusions 
• Ensure compliance with prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements and foreign entities of concern restrictions
• Develop and execute a comprehensive tax strategy aligned with the company’s growth objectives
• Support financing of projects and the company, including structuring tax equity transactions 
• Identify and mitigate tax risks across all jurisdictions.
• Manage audits, inquiries, and relationships with IRS, state and local tax authorities
• Support the Project Finance team model and forecasting
• Identify and drive the implementation of tax planning initiatives 
• Manage tax risk, coordinate the tax planning and reporting functions and ensure appropriate documentation to support lender/investor due diligence 
• Perform feasibility analyses of various tax initiatives to improve tax efficiency and support the strategic goals of the Company.
• Perform due diligence, structure and advise senior management on the tax implications of acquisitions and strategic partnerships 
• Manage relationships with external tax advisors and/or legal counsel.
• Actively monitor US, state, and tax legislative and judicial actions, analyze potential impacts/benefits and support the Senior Vice President of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs
• Work cross-functionally with business partners and other corporate functions such as legal, business units, supply chain on new business initiatives, new market penetrations and operations, and tax-efficient supply chain structures implementation 
• Provide GAAP, cash tax and FP&A tax forecasts 
• Oversee preparation and filing of all federal, state and local income, property and sales tax returns  

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• J.D. or C.P.A.
• 10–15+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership roles
• Extensive experience in the renewable energy industry, including partnership taxation, tax credit initiatives, debt financing, and tax equity financing
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to manage tax advisors.
• Excellent decision-making capabilities with a thorough understanding of various drivers impacting the decision.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate efficiently and effectively with all team members including our Senior Executive team.  
• A strong sense of urgency, positive outlook, and a proactive work ethic approach in a fast-paced work environment 

NICE TO HAVES

• L.L.M. or Masters in Taxation
• A background in all facets of accounting for income taxes, including U.S. tax provisions

ABOUT THE POSITION

Successful candidates will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. The role involves comprehensive management development of utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects through project management, economic analysis, document negotiation, and transaction support across a pipeline of projects targeting California (CAISO) and Desert Southwest wholesale power markets.  The successful candidate will have 7-12 years of experience in the energy industry, specifically in energy infrastructure development; strong financial analysis skills; an ability to effectively communicate complex ideas; and a proven track record to drive projects forward.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Greenfield development of utility-scale solar power generation facilities.
• Engage community, local and state institutions for project support.
• Assist in the preparation of permit applications for new and acquired solar facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions. Managing contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget.
• Negotiate tax abatements, land use agreements, mitigation settlements, and various other agreements.
• Negotiate PPA’s with utilities and other energy buyers/offtakers.
• Work with the finance department during financial feasibility analysis, evaluation and finance.
• Assist with permitting and environmental compliance throughout the construction and operation of projects. 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Extensive knowledge of the full-cycle of utility-scale renewable power generation development and marketing.
• Extensive knowledge of interconnection, permitting, real estate, state/federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, law and other issues that impact development of renewable energy projects in the eastern energy markets.
• Detailed understanding of the interconnection process (study process, contracting, utility requirements, financial obligations, and scope execution by utilities) to both site projects optimally and to advance them through COD.
• Solid understanding of economic drivers within our business.
• Concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit tradeoffs, both in written and verbal format, to project teams and to senior management. Create control and influence over the costs, terms, and schedules of key project milestones that are heavily dependent on external counterparties, often without strong commercial recourse.
• Strong understanding of the relationships within a project schedule in order to prioritize teams’ resource allocation
• Highly resourceful and able to design process for the advancement of project milestones and navigate through key risks where little structure is established.
• Highly proficient in MS Excel (advanced proficiency required), Project, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as Google Earth
• Independent self-starter who can meet deadlines and deliver quality products with minimal oversight.
• Substantial ability to recognize opportunities, identify and evaluate risks in a development context as well as effectively communicate the foregoing.
• Demonstrated ability to translate contracts and financing agreements into concise financial and economic analysis.
• Ability to manage a large workload, often providing support to processes managed by colleagues, while prioritizing tasks and effectively juggling competing deadlines.
• Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work product.
• Excellent personal organizational and pattern recognition skills
