About the Role

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our Intelligent Messaging group—one of the most critical and high-impact areas at Attentive. This team powers the systems behind billions of personalized messages (SMS, email, push) sent every month, helping the world’s leading brands connect with consumers in smarter, more meaningful ways.

At the core of this is AI, machine learning, and real-time data. This allows us to drive personalization at massive scale - turning every message into an opportunity to engage, convert, and build long-term customer relationships.

In this role, you’ll lead multiple teams and play a key role in defining how AI shapes the future of messaging at Attentive. About the Role

The Tag Engineering team owns Attentive's first-party data collection platform: the systems that capture ecommerce and user behavior events from customer storefronts, which form the core data that Attentive's marketing tools are built on. The surface area spans a JavaScript tag embedded on thousands of sites serving millions of consumers daily, Cloudflare Workers handling server-side tracking and edge compute, and backend ingestion services. The team is also heavily leaning into AI to improve the quality and volume of data collected on customer sites, with the goal of evergreen first-party data collection that can automatically measure its own performance, identify improvements, and ship them.

This is a small team (3-4 engineers) with high autonomy and broad ownership. You'll work across the full stack as an AI-first generalist who moves between browser-side code, edge runtimes, and backend services depending on what the problem demands.

This role is remote, based in the United States.

What You’ll Accomplish

• Own data collection across the full stack. Work across the JS tag, Cloudflare Workers, and Java backend services to deliver reliable first-party data collection at scale.
• Expand what we do at the edge with Cloudflare Workers. Extend our Workers infrastructure beyond server-side tracking and proxy endpoints into tag serving, A/B configuration, and compute for agentic systems and data analysis.

• Contribute to technical direction and best practices across the ML engineering team
• Mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing

Your Expertise

• 6+ years of professional experience building production machine-learning software systems
• Proven experience owning ML systems long enough to see the downstream impact of design decisions
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or xgboost
• Experience with data processing and analytics tools such as pandas, Spark, SQL, and matplotlib
• Hands-on experience building automated pipelines for data processing, model training, validation, and deployment
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver ML-powered features
• Strong communication skills and a high sense of ownership
