Position Overview
AST SpaceMobile is seeking a Mechanisms Technician to support the assembly, integration, and testing of satellite deployment systems and mechanical subsystems. This role focuses on building and validating precision mechanisms used in large phased-array satellite structures, including hinges, release mechanisms, actuators, and deployment systems.
This position is critical to ensuring reliable deployment of satellite components in orbit.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay: $23/ based on experience, with overtime opportunities. Higher-level roles are available for more experienced candidates at increased pay.
- Schedule: Standard shift is Monday–Thursday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM (4x10) with paid lunch and breaks.
- Flexibility: Night and weekend shifts with increased pay are also available depending on experience and team needs.
What You’ll Do:
- Perform precision assembly and integration of satellite mechanism subsystems (hinges, release mechanisms, actuators, deployment systems).
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, 3D models, wiring schematics, and assembly procedures.
- Install and route electrical harnesses, connectors, and sensors within tight tolerances and constrained volumes.
- Execute functional, environmental, and acceptance testing (e.g., deployment tests, torque verification, limit switch validation).
- Support mechanism testing including vibration, thermal vacuum (TVAC), and life cycle testing.
- Troubleshoot anomalies during integration and testing; perform rework and corrective actions as required.
- Handle flight hardware in compliance with contamination control and ESD requirements.
- Record build and test data, non-conformances, and work performed in manufacturing systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and test teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Maintain tooling, fixtures, and test setups used for mechanism integration and validation.
What you bring:
- Associate degree or technical certification in mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical technology (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- 2+ years of experience in precision mechanical assembly and/or electrical integration.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and schematics.
- Experience using hand tools, torque tools, and basic electrical test equipment (multimeter, continuity tester).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in aerospace or high-reliability hardware environments.
- Familiarity with satellite mechanisms (deployment systems, HDRMs, spring-driven systems, motorized actuators).
- Experience working in cleanroom environments (ISO class standards).
- Knowledge of ESD, FOD, and contamination control practices.
- Experience with environmental testing (vibe, shock, TVAC).
- Soldering, crimping, and harness fabrication experience (IPC standards preferred).

Position Overview
The Engineering Development Program (EDP) is designed for exceptional recent graduates who want to develop hands-on expertise in spacecraft mechanisms and integration. Participants will work directly on the production floor supporting the assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of spacecraft mechanisms and subsystems.
Through this program, participants will gain deep practical experience with spacecraft hardware, build leadership skills, and progress through a structured career path:
Engineering Technician → Associate Mechanisms Engineer → Mechanisms Engineer or Supervisor
This program offers a rare opportunity to learn spacecraft hardware from the ground up, combining hands-on assembly and testing experience with early exposure to engineering decision-making, process improvement, and leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Phase 1 – Engineering Technician
Participants begin the program working hands-on with spacecraft mechanisms and AIT operations:
- Perform assembly, integration, and alignment of spacecraft mechanisms and subsystems.
- Support mechanical integration, bonding, adhesives, potting, and precision assembly processes per engineering procedures and workmanship standards.
- Follow strict cleanroom protocols including ESD and FOD control.
- Assist with vibration, shock, thermal vacuum (TVAC), and static load test campaigns.
- Support quality inspections, verification, and troubleshooting of assembly/test issues.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and senior technicians to execute AIT tasks.
Phase 2 – Associate Mechanisms Engineer
Upon demonstrating technical competence and leadership potential, participants transition into an associate engineering role:
- Lead and provide technical guidance to teams performing mechanism assembly and integration.
- Coordinate daily AIT activities to ensure milestones and quality targets are met.
- Ensure technicians follow engineering procedures, quality standards, and cleanroom protocols.
- Train and mentor junior technicians in AIT practices.
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations of anomalies or failures.
- Participate in design and analysis activities to optimize mechanism performance and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to drive process improvements and operational efficiency.
- Develop and maintain documentation, drawings, and test records in compliance with program standards.
Phase 3 – Mechanisms Engineer or Supervisor
After successful completion of the development program, participants may advance into:
Option 1 – Mechanisms Engineer:
- Design, analyze, and improve spacecraft mechanisms, interfaces, and AIT processes.
- Support integration campaigns and cross-functional engineering projects.
- Develop and validate tooling, fixtures, and procedures for production and test.
- Collaborate with design engineering to incorporate production feedback into hardware improvements.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and throughput.
Option 2 – Supervisor (Operations Leadership Track):
- Supervise assembly and integration teams ensuring adherence to engineering specifications, quality standards, and production schedules.
- Oversee daily production operations and manage personnel to meet key metrics (safety, quality, delivery, efficiency).
- Drive employee training, process auditing, and skills development.
- Partner with engineering, quality, and operations leadership to resolve technical or production challenges.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, or related technical field
Experience
- Recent graduate or early-career engineer
- Hands-on experience through internships, research labs, or academic projects involving mechanical assemblies, electronics, robotics, or hardware systems
- Exposure to spacecraft systems, aerospace manufacturing, or cleanroom operations is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with space-qualified mechanisms (release devices, actuators, hinges, latches, deployment systems)
- Familiarity with root cause and corrective action (RCCA) processes
- Experience with vibration, shock, and TVAC testing
- Knowledge of bonding, adhesives, and precision assembly processes
- Participation in engineering projects, robotics competitions, or research teams

- Assess new product concepts and designs for reliability, safety, and compliance with mission assurance standards; provide recommendations to Engineering and Program teams.
- Develop and implement mission assurance methods and processes to meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements while supporting program schedules and cost objectives.
- Conduct risk assessments, failure mode analyses, and proof-of-concept studies to validate design integrity and operational readiness.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including assurance plans, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance reports.
- Continuously improve mission assurance practices using industry standards and methodologies (e.g., FMEA, FRACAS, Six Sigma) to enhance reliability and reduce risk.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for anomalies in design, manufacturing, or test phases.
- Participate in or lead initiatives related to safety, quality improvement, and process optimization.
- Ensure qualification and verification of new or modified products through rigorous assurance processes to completion.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline OR 8 years of equivalent experience.
Experience
- 0–3 years in flight/mission assurance, quality engineering, or reliability engineering within aerospace or manufacturing environments.
- Proficient with MS Office and familiarity with tools for risk analysis and reliability modeling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of quality standards (AS9100, NASA/DoD requirements), risk management processes, and mission assurance methodologies.
- Experience with reliability analysis tools or systems engineering tools.
- Exposure to aerospace hardware development, testing, or manufacturing environments.
Soft Skills

Position Summary
The Harness Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting the production of electrical harnesses and cable assemblies for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite platforms. This role ensures harnesses are designed, manufactured, and tested to meet aerospace standards and mission requirements, while improving quality, repeatability, and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacturing Engineering Support:
- Develop and maintain harness assembly processes, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation (routers, travelers, and assembly drawings).
- Support design-to-production handoffs by reviewing harness design schematics and layouts for manufacturability and reliability.
- Define and select tooling, equipment, and materials required for harness production.
- Drive improvements in harness routing, termination, and installation practices.
- Production Oversight:
- Provide on-the-floor support to manufacturing technicians during harness assembly, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Establish and optimize assembly sequences and jigs to ensure repeatable, high-quality harness fabrication.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions for nonconformances.
- Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Develop and implement testing protocols using automated harness testers (e.g., CIRRIS or similar systems).
- Ensure all assemblies comply with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and NASA/ESA workmanship standards.
- Review and approve first article inspections (FAIs) and ensure compliance with aerospace quality requirements.
- Process Improvement & Documentation:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase production efficiency and reduce cost.
- Maintain configuration management of harness designs, tooling, and process documentation.
- Collaborate with design engineers, quality teams, and supply chain to ensure smooth production flow.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field; or equivalent technical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in harness or cable assembly manufacturing for aerospace, defense, or satellite applications.
- Strong understanding of harness design principles, electrical schematics, and 3D CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks).
- Familiarity with industry standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620, ECSS-Q-ST-70, NASA-STD-8739.4.
- Hands-on experience with crimping, soldering, wire dressing, and connectorization.
- Experience with automated harness testers (CIRRIS, DIT-MCO, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-reliability production environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in satellite or spacecraft harness design and integration.
- Knowledge of harness routing and design in 3D modeling software.
- Understanding of aerospace material selection (wires, connectors, backshells, shielding, and sleeving).
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.

Position Overview
The Associate Manufacturing Engineer will support the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing methods and processes to sustain current production and support the introduction of new products. This role contributes to manufacturing readiness, process optimization, and the successful transition of products from design to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess new product concepts and designs for manufacturability, providing recommendations to R&D/Product Engineering.
- Develop methods and processes for manufacturing new products in the safest, most cost-effective manner while meeting quality standards and production demand.
- Conduct proof-of-principle or proof-of-concept studies to validate manufacturing approaches.
- Design detailed manufacturing processes, including layouts, tooling, fixtures, programming, testing, and documentation.
- Continuously improve existing production methods using Six Sigma methodologies and knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, equipment capabilities, assembly techniques, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in current production and provide engineering support to operations.
- Participate in or lead Safety, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the qualification of new or modified products through manufacturing processes to final completion.
Qualifications
