We were founded by families in East San José who wanted stronger academics and more support for their children. Alpha is a free, TK-12 public charter school system on a mission to prepare the next generation of leaders in East San José.

Who we are:
Alpha Public Schools is a public charter school network of four schools educating approximately 1,900 scholars in east San Jose. Guided by the belief that our students belong in college, we ensure safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments to help our students thrive. What sets us apart is the very thing that makes us who we are– our community. Alpha was founded by a group of mothers on the eastside of San Jose who sought better educational opportunities for their students. We maintain a strong connection to our community and engage families in a collaborative approach to offer a holistic education to our students.
A successful Dean of Students:
The successful Dean of Students serves a vital role in fulfilling Alpha’s mission by designing and maintaining systems for positive culture and community on campus.
We are seeking passionate individuals who embody Alpha’s mission, vision and core beliefs - leaders who believe that all students can learn, that our scholars belong in college, and that student growth is a reflection of the teacher’s practice. We are looking for leaders who are reflective in their practice and are willing to engage in conversations around educational equity and inclusivity. At Alpha, you will uphold rigorous expectations for all staff and students, while leading from a place of empathy and understanding. Alpha is fiercely entrepreneurial and we are focused on supporting our educators and scholars as they grow into self-reliant leaders who will achieve success in their school, college, and career. Dean of Students are expected to:
Embody the mission, vision, and core beliefs of the school and the Alpha Public Schools network.
Collaborate with other school leaders, staff, scholars, and parents to create and uphold school-wide systems and structures.
- Support teachers and school staff in maintaining healthy and thriving environment in all campus areas and support in classrooms. Provide coaching when necessary.
- Manage office referrals and facilitate restorative circles and mediation meetings with students, as needed.
- Manage emergency situations by responding to the scene, providing first aid, delegating tasks and assignments to faculty, and alerting emergency personnel as appropriate.
- Write and submit incident reports and communicate reports with other school leaders as appropriate.
- Build strong relationships with parents and teachers to support student relationships, accountability and performance.
Lead project work to develop and maintain a healthy and thriving school culture.
- Co-lead the PBIS team and program implementation.
- Coordinate with other school leaders to monitor the fidelity of implementation of MTSS at the school level to include both academic and behavioral support systems.
- Coordinate and facilitate PBIS staff professional development with school leadership.
- Oversee the implementation of Sown to Grown SEL curriculum to support students in building connections and strategies that support their development
- Oversee the implementation and refinement of student leadership development systems including activities such as lessons on leadership and responsibility, student council, peer restorative justice, peer tutoring, cross-grade buddies, etc.
- Manage and oversee other culture project plans to support student culture in a collaborative way.
Analyze and present data using our data systems (e.g,SEL, Dean’s List, survey data)
- Track and assess behavior and intervention data
- Share analyses and opportunities to the school staff to best support scholars.

You Possess…
- High school diploma or GED required
- 5+ years of work experience in education and/or in direct support of school-aged children ages 5-18
- 2+ years experience working directly with youth and underserved communities
- Experience with restorative justice
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Knowledge of a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) models and implementation in school settings (highly preferred)
- Coaching experience (teachers and/or youth) (highly preferred)
- Fluent in Spanish (highly preferred)
